  1. I`ll be working mostly with dark shades and tones, so that`s what I`m most looking for. Would anyone recommend a specific basecoat Reaper HD paint for those types of shades? I'm definitely grabbing the brush on primer, but I like to start from darker basecoats for painting.
  2. Hey all. I have done lots of GW and independent painting at this point, but I really want to up the ante for malifaux. As you can see on my signature, I am have a few crews I'm looking at painting. For those of you who use Reaper MSP's, what triads would you recommend? Have any of you tried the new "HD" line? I also have access to privateer press if any of you want to make some impassioned recommendations XD Thank you in advance for all correspondence and help! Regards, TV
  3. Thank you all for your comments. I'll update. The interest level has skyrocketed. I have a lot of contacts and experience in mini promotion, but I daresay it's something new. The great fluff combined with the manageable size and cost of the game compared to other. I've tried my best to get the book especially accessible and to unite the interest with social media. I posted up a short blurb about the game and suggested it to our group as something to look at for next year and linked it around a bit. It's only been a week and not only do I have past a dozen people (and this is a small university town) totally "in", and NOW I have a 500 to 600 dollar group order to put out. People were so enthusiastic they wanted them order over the summer so that here by the time university is back in fall, the stuff will be there for them. I can't imagine how much more we can do in a month of open events on campus, with all the new students. I think my biggest concern will be to keep pace in terms of promotion as well as events, so I am hoping whenever I have some ideas I can discuss them here. I hope to keep hearing from you all, I greatly value the input and support of the forums, and know all too well the dire importance of community in these sorts of hobbies. As from myself, between writing up events for the fall, my research job, and life, I think I'll be rather busy! Regards, TV
  4. That's ok, it's just good to know. Whatever is on the site is up to date then I assume.
  5. Is there any way for outliers without henchmen yet to get in on this? Or should we just order new stat cards? Sorry if this is a hijack. Regards, TV
  6. I have been thinking of trying to pull off something (albeit less impressive I'm sure) like a plot-based league/"event" similar to the first book's events. I have a lot of experience in organizing these sorts of things but trying to write a bit of fluff for each encounter might be tedious, though I am well suited to writing large quantities XD. I will keep it updated, this seems like a good way to have community correspondence. Regards, TV
  7. Do any of you have any ways to work in painting incentives? I ran the "warband" league similar to what you have described karn and it was quite successful. Some of us veteran players were even lending out forces to interested people.
  8. There was an LGS in the area until recently, but there is another larger chain that I have a lot of experience with that is 30 minutes away. As such I would say for the first few things we'll be on our own. We ran a test demo with already interested parties a while back. I used my contacts from running GW events to create a "discussion group" for people interested in checking the game out next semester (so in the new school year) and have all the expected people up top date. So, say we had some demos, people confirmed their interest, and we ordered a bunch of crews (all non profit). In other cases (Vtes, GW) I've run events to get people started with their new stuff, and so that is what I am wondering about most. What sort of events do you guys think would be a good call in this sort of environment, where you have a bunch of new guys with stuff fresh out of the package, who may know the rules but have no experience in the game and not very much experience at painting either. Regards, TV
  9. New Brunswick, Canada!
  10. I think even past developing the game, developing the market is always important. Games likes this are always harder to get word out for, so my thoughts are that maybe something like the old GW Rogue Trader/Grey Knight Program would be really great. I know there are "henchman" but I am not sure what the difference might be, my bad XD. Regards, TV
  11. I also think that malifaux should play to it's strength of small skirmish level games. I know making everything just bigger is easy, but I think the game would lose part of it's market advanatge if it went that direction. Personally, I would really like to see an expansion in the area of Malifaux story element and game-play. By this I mean that since the great mission/objective rules already help each game have a sens eof story, why not capitalize that by maybe doing campaign supplements? Obviosuly this may not always be as lucrative, but you could *also* do what VtES did and package special "mission only" models that not only make the release more commercially viable but also make for a great way to test to lines and designs, as well as story-lines. Anyway, I guess to summarize my thoughts for expansion are to keep it small but continue to innovate in the areas of story and gameplay. Regards, TV
  12. One of the big selling points for "other games" is the volume to of quality background that has been developed not only in game material but also in novels and other merchandise, so much so that they take to defending their license very aggressively. Obviously this is very early in the development of the franchise, but I am wondering if the company has a specific plan or outlook on developing the "world" in this direction. Regards, TV
  13. Hey all! I appeared a while back asking lots of questions that were graciously answered. As previously stated I do a lot of organization with the gaming community and malifaux, although on the back-burner this year (LGS politics) is something I see as a great crossover game for those into RPG and miniatures games, to wargames with larger scale. I have run "newbie" events in the past this year with 40k, Fantasy, and Vtes, and all were quite successful. I really think Malifaux will have extra edge in our university environment, so I'm starting the legwork now for possible shenanigans next semester in fall. SO I am here to ask you all, what have your experiences with similar "starter" promotions/ events/ etc with malifaux? What worked, what didn't? Would you have done some things differently? DO you have a secret master recruiting plan? I'm all ears XD Thank you in advance for all input! Regards, TV
  14. I definitely like where you are going with this.
  15. I am new and I would say that it depends on your personality. I definitely agree with what hayzel is saying but I also know from experience that some players don't like getting beat into the ground game after game. In other words, if you know you are persistent and enjoy a challenge, and especially if you have experience with other similar games, you should probably go with what models/characters/back stories you will enjoy the most. However, if you know that you may not be as persistent when it comes to adversity in the game, you may want to look at easier crews. Especially if you are not attracted to complex rulesets/playstyle. I for instance am starting Leveticus. Will he be hard to play? Yes. Do I love complex play styles that pay off heavily? YES Anyway, my advice is more for general "which army do i play" questions as I get to answer them all the time. I am new myself to the game but I think the same rules probbaly apply to faction/army choosing. I would try to borrow a book and maybe play a rough game or 2 with borrowed or "proxied" minis to try out some of the masters you are most interested. Ask yourself, am I in it for the story, the gameplay, the minis, or what? After getting that experience you should be able to weigh out what box is best for you! Do you your research :albertein and you will be fine! Regards, TV
  16. So, wait, is this V3 card now how he is playing? Yeah I'm pretty confused right now. My Levi stuff (my first force) literally came in the day before and waking up to this was... interesting. Not because I was pissed as my stuff "sucked" but because I did not and still kind of am unsure as to what is the end state of the rules. Yesterday and today as I read through the whole thread I was definitely part of the crew thinking "waif will be changed" otherwise her rule would make a lot less sense. I'm also the sort to have been playing wargames too long to freak out over new releases every time they happen (hellooooo warseeer). Honestly depsite playing competitively I usually avoided really powerful armies. Case in point, I made a vampires list for warhammer right at the release without realizing how uber they were. Even though I had the army sitting there Ia actually waited till late 7th and 8th to touch them and now think they're quite interesting. Playign them when they stomped people was... boring. So! I trust wyrd to make the game play to it's furthest potential and give cuddle where cuddle is due. Ultimately it makes the game and the player base stronger. Could someone give a noob linkage to the erratas when the dust settles? I'm honestly not touching much until it does haha. BTW, good on wyrd for not going the GW way of never Cuddling anything ever and never admitting they made some oversights. I'd MUCH rather keep up with "patches" then play an unbalanced system Regards, TV
  17. We have the startings of a group here in Sackville, NB (Canada)
  18. I have actually decided on leveticus. Any more suggestions on must-have blisters to go with the box?
  19. Thanks for all your comments! I'm afraid I've made a big error (was late last night) and called Mcmourning "Seamus", which is now fixed. I really like Mcmourning's theme but it sounds like he does not play well out of the box and again I am wondering if he will be interesting to play. There is the other issue that I may not be able to pick up the expansion (rising powers) sets. So I guess I am looking to choose between the box sets of the orignal book. I am willing to pick up extra stuff, though. However it is beginning to sound like Mcmourning needs something completely different than in the box (other than sebastian/construct). I would also like a box that would build well into a Leveticus crew but that is not necessary. Any more thoughts? Regards, TV
  20. Hey yall! I absolutely love new and innovative rulesets and at the behest of a friend I am checking out this one. I run many events at the LGS to support other systems and have had my hand in many more, so here is your chance to convice me Malifaux is worth putting time into like the rest! I have been reading anything and everything pertaining to getting started over the last 2 hours and I have narrowed/focused my questions on starting down to something reasonable! (I hope 8)) So, I am looking at ordering from a certian supplier where some boxes may not be available. Of the boxed sets I am interested in, I am wondering what extra buys they NEED to play (I am reading that the Necromancer faction needs extra but I may be wrong..), how they perform out of the box, and maybe an extra blurb/personal account on your experience, how they play. Maybe how common they are, as I like playing rarer forces. Let me make it abundantly clear: I LOVE complex gameplay and complex factions where you can put a lot in and get a lot out. I love synergy, dynamic forces and unorthodox game play. It also helps handicap me early on against other new players. In 40k I started with Eldar, fantasy block troops Empire (before infantry mobs were good 8p), Warmachine with Magnus. As such I am feeling that many of the reccomendations I am seeing for new players may not apply. For example, I keep hearing how great the Gunslinger set is, but to me it seems like they would be very boring and straightforward ( I hate "gun lines" and other non-dynamic armies) ------------------------------ Here are the sets that have already come at me as interesting but I'd like to know more: -Pandora: I am not sure how I like the theme (more I don't know anything about it yet!), but it sounds like the set has lots of potential if the work is there and the idea of toying with opponents is very much a bonus for me. -Mcmourning: I like the theme(especially combat casters, I am a big fan of this type), but am not sure how playable out of the box he is (needs extras?) and if he will be complex/interesting enough or just very straightforward. -Leveticus: Probably my top pick. The whole life insurance and "super powerful if played well" is very appealing. Seems the set is harder to come by though, and maybe I could get a bit easier set to start with and then grab him, as I read that he can take minions from a lot of other sets. If this is true, what other box sets add well to his? Is he really a flat out bad choice until you know the game super well? -Ramos: again, I like the theme, but it sounds like he needs a lot of extras and his playability out of the box seems to be in question. -'Tina: Theme is cool. I am worried she is too common and I will get bored of her, though. ---------------------- I'd love to hear other suggestions as well. I'm sure I have missed a few ones that may be in fact suited to me. Thank you all in advance for your comments and advice, I look forward to reading them! Regards, TV
