  1. Mike Modano to the Red Wings? I felt the Red Wings were already too old, this won't help them come next April.

    Woe is me...

From the general timing rules, I'd say no. The only thing I could think is to find a way to re-activate the linked Sorrow... which I really don't see any options for Neverborn.
  3. Really caught the blend of creepiness and gentlemanliness for Nico, on top of being a beautiful paint job.
  4. East Coast USA is always issuelicious for outdoor priming. During the summer you have obscene heat and humidity. During the winter yu have the humidity and (depending where at) obscene to mild cold, none of which is good for spray priming. If you have to spray outside, do it at night unless its raining or has/will rain +/- 3 hours, as this is when the humidity is at its worst.
  5. ^ I've found that washes are best used with precise placement techniques... more or less using them as a very thin paint as opposed to using them to "shower" or "bathe" a model/area of model. It takes a bit longer but gets good results. What you're referring to is more of a staining technique, which has its uses. It's a really good technique for finishing off skin and hair/fur.
  6. what norken said.. additionally, a lot of auto body primers are sandable, so if you get any fuzziness, you can take some sandpaper ( best bet is 220 grit wet sanding) and buff the fuzzies down. Living on the east coast US, I'm becoming a believer in paint-on primers since I no longer have a reliable indoor spraying room.
  7. MMM, a word on the wash/ink thing. Washes are paint or paint&ink plus matte medium (or whatever formula you use. I find inks aren't really that great... they take forever to dry and can actually reverse-shade a mini when yo make a mistake... the high parts will dry quickly, and if ot runs out of the low parts/crevasses, you have shaded the areas where the highlights should be... really bad. while inks will get fantastic results with certain things (feathers), they're a bit dodgy for my tastes and I prefer good old-fashioned blending (ugh...) for most features. Inks DO have good uses though. They're great for glazes (very thin even coat to bring out the colors beneath) and adding zing to your colors (particularly reds. oranges, and yellows.) Just say no to using them for most of your shading needs.
  8. Awesome review. I'm gonna have to check out their other stuff.
  9. Perdita's a really bad match up for Pandi on a 1-on-1 basis, as she ignores Expose Fears and is a beast with her guns... a problem exacerbated by Pandi's non-existent Df and low-Wd total. Once Perdita is in range with LOS (and even without it), Pandi needs at least one Martyr target. Other than that, your description of game three is a typical Pandi game in my experience, where she will literally take over her 12" bubble of influence.

    Woe is me...

I like it when you're all over the place. Using The Doppelganger as a Martyr seems useful, especially 1. with the revisions to Martyr making the martyred model the new target of the attack (rather than a damage shunt ala Hordes) and 2. The Doppler's ability to mimic talents, ie Armor, Hard to Kill, Hard to Wound, etc. Paired up with Candy's Sweets action, the Doppler/Candy combo could be a ball of tank. Not the best use for most situtations, but useful in others (ie, move blocking a Claim jump/ treasure marker path). Plus, in a pinch, you could mimic Candy's Martyr and have the Doppler martyr Candy. :vb_devil: Candy might also be a better damage sink than a Sorrow, but she's still a bit squishy. The only nice thing is the Regret trigger if you can get it off. It at least keeps one model from being able to make furthur attacks this turn. I don't have anything new regarding Sorrows themselves, but maybe figuring otu how to run the rest of the crew around them will put them into place naturally.
  11. If you're using water effects, I find that a bit of brown paint and yellow ink makes an ecellent swamp water... mix in a little green for the top layer and it'll be beautiful.
  12. If you have Matte Medium (available in art supply stores), I try to use 4:1 Medium:paint ratio and then thin it down with water til it flows. The papertowel test above is a good indicator, as the mix will hit the paper and disperse. It's a bit strong, especially if you're using a dark color (black) straight over white, but if you're going from a mid-shade flesh and then darker flesh shading it should work out nicely.
  13. I'll leave out the anti-GW hatred. HordesMachine (HM for short) is a fun game with some really cool mechanics. As stated already, it plays totally different from malifaux, but there are a lot of superficial similarities that should make the learning curve a lot easier. I started with the Legion and Skorne box sets to get my regular gaming buddies into it... right about the same time a revival was going on at the LGS. Both armies were fun, but I prefer the Skorne. Just so much cool stuff going on with them, especially after Evolution (1st Hordes expansion). Anyone who doesn't believe me, I've got one word: BRONZEBACK!!!! If you haven't played yet, you can pretty well ignore the MkII hatred. While a lot of stuff got toned down on a global scale, there are really only a few specific beefs I have. MkII plays a little quicker and is better streamlined than MkI. MkI got a bit ridiculous with the stat cards towards the end. (Honestly, Rhyas' stat card was in a font that mice had problems reading. And she came out 3 years ago. A lot of stuff much worse than her came out since.)) As I said, I love my Skorne. The models are pretty cool and there really are no bad choices in the entire army. Their troops are inherently good, and the warlocks and solos generally synergize beautifully with them. True for any army, but the Skorne get extra style points doing it.
  14. The yin and yang of the Fate Deck On the one hand, you can count the number of good and bad cards that have already been used and calculate your odds accordingly. On the other hand, the four suits add another layer of randomness. You can have nothing but "face" cards in your control hand. If you don't have them in the suit you need, you can't reliably count on Cheating fate to cast that spell or get that Trigger.
  15. <- Thinks Kirai should get a preview just on her strong comeback bid.
  16. Maybe you should try to get in a few more games using this crew agaisnt the Gremlin horde. Different Location, Terrain, Strategies, and Schemes will all require you to play a vastly different game. On a board with a lot of severe terrain, the Gremlins lose a bit of movement, and your crew has Scout, good movement speed, and the ability to force the opposing crew (especially true against Gremlins) to go where they don't want to go. Forcing Gremlins and Pigs to walk half-speed into a wood, they'll have to walk half-speed to get out.

    Master Hamelin

Interesting thought: does Master Hamelin keep this ability?
  18. Per Errata, a Totem specifically naming a model in parenthesis can only be hired by that model. Thus, only Lilith can hire the Cherub. A shame, because the Cherub would work nicely with Pandi. Given that you could mimic spells, mimicing Use Soulstones might be useful in the right situation.Doppel gains a (1) Spell for the turn, so she could cast the same spell twice and use SS to up the casting total if the situation calls for it. (Self-Loathing jumps out in a Pandi crew.) One thing that i think makes it useful... if you need Crows to cast, don't get it, but have a lowish Crow in your hand, cheat the lowish Crow and SS to up the casting total.

^Some interesting thoughts there Fivepipe. This is what this thread needs; fresh thinking on using Sorrows. Having a killy model activate before its crew's Master can start throwing around buffs can be major.
  20. Welcome to Malifaux-Now Duck Skrewk!!! I really need to do some terrain ASAP.
  21. I've been getting into sculpting and have done a ton of research. Here's some accumulated knowledge in a nutshell. 1. Better to do 100 smaller steps than 33 big ones. Similar to the concept of 20 thin layers of paint instead of 6 thick ones. 2. Greenstuff: not good for armor or weapons. practice sculpting using water to lube your tools. If you must use oil, wash well before next step. always scrape top shell off with a sharp blade before begining next step- this gives better grip between layers of GS. 3. Toothpicks are fine but bamboo skewers can be whittled down for better tools. 4. Armatures: Use them. (I'm currently doing some work just building up 10 test figs for armature practice.) Other notes about GS: It has a bit of "memory" to it so the fresher the better. Can be mixed with milliput and even brownstuff- similar putty, but recommended for weapon, armors, and high detail areas; it costs a bit more but people swear by it for certain uses. And like painting, experiment and practice.
  22. Three ways are diffucult in almost any game. As bad as it can be with malifaux, with the somewhat random strats, it's worse with Warmachine, where one side does all of its activations at once. At least with this game, the turns balance out a bit better overall. My problem has been that I would usually end up in a three way with a guy who had a friendly yet furious rivalry going with me. Invariably, there would be at least one of us with Assassinate/Slaughter and we would invariably flip each other as the targets. Not much fun for the other guy.
  23. "You can't beat bad dice." Words of wisdom from a very competitive Warmachine player. You can do everything right. Slipstream Rhyas into a perfect charge zone. End her charge move exactly 1/2" away from the charge target. Boost to increase the odds of triggering Critical Decapitation. 1 :censored: 1 :censored: 1 :censored: :wallbash: When I played her like an ape, she was incredible. One hit wrecked a Slayer off a Riposte attack. Ninja'd thru a unit of Troll Champions. Then I found tactics, and rendered her useless for want of rolling a 2 on three dice. My dice are legendary even in Hell, but one guy at our game shop got into it, perhaps in part, because of the Fate Deck. Guess what... the Fate Deck is not his friend neither. My Fate Deck has been a mixed batch, but odds are if I play like an ape, I'll have both Jokers and a bunch of face cards in my hand. If I start playing a tactically perfect activation, the Red Joker will come up on the attack flip, and the Black Joker will be right behind him on the damage flip.
  24. Kirai came on strong since I voted.
  25. Three-way games are always a bit ... wyrd. Usually you get a situation where two players end up going after each other harder and the third person steps in and messes with both of them. Your draw on Strat probably helped, as they were fighting over treasure, made it a bit easier for you to concentrate on killing stuff. Still, 8-2-0 is no joke. What schemes did you play?
