  1. I like Johann. If you can squeeze both him and Taelor into a crew, it gives you such a solid centre. They are great for games where you need to seize and hold on objective and using knockback to clear enemies away from an objective is always fun.... especially when it involves a fall from a great height !
  2. Its good to hear that you are enjoying the game. One thing I would say is that Perdita is very good against Neverborn, so don't give up if you lose your first few games. I bet your Mum knew that when she picked her..... Mums are crafty like that
  3. I am finding it hard to keep up with who is who on here now.... I tend to go from Avatar Pics rather than names, so I am really confused :dizzy:
  4. How about Sonnia ? Loads of magic and good overlap with The Ortegas.
  5. I guess it depends on what kind of lists you are going to run.... balanced, gremlin gunline or hog heavy ? Depending on your play style you might want some more piglets or bayou gremlins.
  6. I stand corrected. Good to know, thanks chaps.
  7. I am on my phone right now, so its hard for me to check, but I think he can. It's the same for models with similar abilities such as The Guild Executioner. I would search the rules forum as its certainly come up before !
  8. How about Ophelia ? Her box works very well without any additions and you could have some great heated and themed head to heads against The Ortegas. Other than that Sonnia, Lady J, Seamus, Rasputina and Von Schill all work well straight from the box. I would normally include Pandora, but I think Perdita has a number of buffs that could make it a bit one sided.
  9. I have ordered direct from Wyrd a couple of times and it has always been fine, a little slow, but nothing that you wouldn't expect getting stuff shipped from the US. If you are looking for a reliable stockist in the UK, I would heartily recommend these guys : www.darksphere.co.uk Cheap, fast and great customer service.
  10. Hey there, welcome on board ! I am just down the road from you in Saffron Walden - there is a small, but friendly group of us that play at Inner Sanctum Collectables in Cambridge on a Thursday night. Stop by and say hello if you can !
  11. I've started to use Killjoy and although he isn't always effective, he is always great fun. Just keep him well away from those pesky Stitched Togethers !!
  12. I would strongly recommend Von Schill and the Freikorp. For a 25ss game you don't need anything else. They are fairly easy to pick up and are really well balanced - there aren't any bad match ups for them, they can go toe to toe with anybody.
  13. It is a bit odd, but those are the rules I am affraid. There are some crews that can take both (Kirai for example, as she can hire any spirit)... and who knows what is going to come in book 3 ?
  14. I don't think you can take Nix in this list - he isn't a beast or a mercenary (unless his card is different to the rulebook).
  15. Sorry to nit-pick, but I don't think Von Schill + Hamelin can take Nix due to Von Schills hiring restrictions.... Nix doesn't have the Mercenary characteristic.
  16. Anyone ?? How can I indoctrinate him into the ways of Malifaux without a decent stockist nearby ??
  17. I find they are fast enough, especially with Arachnid - if you do manage to get leap off, its just a bonus.
  18. I really like using Hamelin with the Viks. Viks crews tend to be very one-dimensional, so Hamelin adds some much needed varierty. He is especially fun to use against Ressers - they tend to have low WP so his spells go off easily, he can remove corpse counters, and the swarms of canine remains that I seem to go up against can't target him. Also Obey + Sebastian = Lolz He does cost a lot of SS though and some games he does struggle to make an impact. Overall he is good fun and a handy minion to have available, but by no means an auto-include.
  19. C'mon, that must be enough votes for a new puppet now ? And if not, I will vote for Bishop, just to bump the numbers up a bit
  20. I think the Freikorp box would be a great place to go next. The Freikorp lead by the Viks make a great crew. One of my favourite lists at the moment is : Viks Von Schill Trooper Trooper Trapper Librarian 5 SS ...... Also if you want to run pure Freikorp then either Johann or Taelor make great additions to the crew. I am not convinced about how effective the Librarian is outside of the Freikorp. She tends to have a massive target on painted on her and goes down very quickly without Slow to Die from Von Schill. Also some of her spells are Freikorp only rather than effecting friendly models, which reduces her to just a heal bot. While healing both Viks is a great help, by having one of them needing to be near the Librarian you are reducing their great mobility.
  21. Good work on this. I was really unsure about the Hoffman box.... I love Hoffman but wasn't convinced about the other constructs. You my friend, have changed my mind. I will have to pick this up to help flesh out my Levi crew.
  22. Unfortunately I have lots of experience stripping paint from poorly painted models !! I don't know whether it is a UK only product, but I use Dettol to strip any paint from my models. You have to make sure that it is the traditional brown dettol, as the green and purple stuff doesn't work. Get a small container or dish and fill it with dettol so that it covers the model. Leave it in there for 12 hours or so and then scrub it gently with a tooth brush. Keep on repeating this until your model is shiney metal again.... although you may need a tooth pick / cocktail stick to remove specks of paint from deep crevasses. It will make your house smell like a hospital, but it is a bit less harmfull than things like break fluid or paint stripper. Also just be careful if you have used pva glue to stick anything to the base of your model, as it can react in an odd way.
  23. Hey there, welcome on board. The Freikorp is a great place to start, the are a really well balanced crew and fun to boot. I would never argue against the Convict Slinger, but I am not sure how much Ronin would add to the crew. Having played a good few games with the Freikorp, I would recommend picking up a heavy hitter such as Taelor, or even better The Viktorias !
  24. Only because you are too scared to go anywhere near them...... or is it because they are too slow to catch you ? Either way, let's put it down to my excellent board control
