  1. you're going to need more than that bro. since you said rules lawyer more than twice in a thread i'm going to have to give you this :paralyzedpuppet:elefant::slap::gurney::peep::decision::rockon::amen::noevil::pcguru: and this :240::canabis: and one for drew :teddy
  2. um... You mean Young Frankenstein, right? DUH
  3. [ame] [/ame] I really wish I had gotten in on the first page of this one
  4. she has high damage output and counter spell makes her very difficult to kill mcmourning in particular relies on spells for damage, so he should not be able to touch you. in a tournament setting, the best choice against guild is mcmourning, because of hoffman. hoffman's immune to influence crew screws over most rezzers but mcmourning doesn't care and can get body parts off robots. the last master he wants to see is sonnia.
  5. no, its part of the action. if you onslaught, you are not making a separate action (hence no wounds from alps) it is just another strike generated from the first action.
  6. if you place them next to each other, the size of the counters roughly make up the same size as the base for 40s and 50s. some people have insisted that they stack on each other, but there is no justification in the manual for this. the only time they stack is when another model who is carrying them, dies. so when a 50mm dies, just place the 3 counters underneath him touching each other. its not perfect but it roughly makes up the same space. placement of counters (whether stacked or done in the manner i described) almost never matters or makes a difference in the outcome of the game. if you are touching a model when it dies, you pick up the counters it would drop.
  7. you can do things that would kill or sacrifice a model if it has a chance of failure. so you can cast "oopsie" even if it would kill him because you could always black joker or otherwise fail to cast the spell. the trigger, however, is guaranteed, once the suit requirement has been met, to sacrifice the model and therefore may not be taken during an obeyed action. this literally just came up in a game i played against nyx tonight while he was in town
  8. this is how somer wins the master of malifaux
  9. no tournament (including gencon) that I've played in has a line for jack daw. you just write it in, or add it up, and when the TO asks you tell him, "jack daw has killed a man"
  10. in my opinion the totem's main use is to give one of the higher point living rezzer models undead so they aren't such a liability. so i would drop it. plus with a henchman you have more opportunity to use SS so the higher cache would be nice
  11. its a pretty solid idea to start but people dont like being told what to play with. the starter boxes are not balanced at all for starters (like some have said), and there are a couple that are more than 25 pts. the way that I encouraged people to take certain models in my story encounter tourney was to make strategies that gave them VP for accomplishing certain things with those models, and had the same number of points tied to those model for the opponent. that way if the player chose not to take the model, it would deny himself the same amount of VP that it denied his opponent, but he wasn't ever forced to take anything.
  12. Gencon even had tons of new players. I'm just saying, like Nilus said, that as the TO you can do whatever you want. It's your event.
  13. if you have new players, you don't have to use gaining ground. it was written for competitive play, not new players
  14. I might post up some of the better ones in a bit
  15. would be a good way to go though
  16. I just ran a story encounters tournament yesterday to encourage this as well. I hand wrote the strategies with the metagame in mind (who the good players were, who the new players were, what masters are good against each other, etc.) and predetermined the matchups before hand. The strategies weren't 100% balanced, as I obviously didn't have any time or opportunity to play test them, but I think it went pretty well. 1st place game was between McMourning and Leveticus, with Leveticus winning. 2nd place was Nicodem v. Lilith, Lilith won. 3rd place was Pandora v. Sonnia, Sonnia won. I stacked the odds against the best players and they still came out on top. Leveticus had to die 8 times for half of one strategy (2 VP) and ended up dying an unprecedented 11 times in one game. (Edit: for those wondering how this is possible, he just looks at the top cards of his deck and stacks the odds, I figured getting to turn 9 would be tough, and of course he has to not actually die, and it turns out he got to turn 12) Also I like the idea of you changing the things that you did, just to see how it goes. I think local tournaments are a great laboratory to try things out. Post up the results, it might even help out the devs...
  17. Experienced players don't have to look at their cards for stats and abilities, and don't have to ask their opponents what their stats and abilities are, which cuts playing time about in half. They can also largely plan out how their turns are going to go (less time spent deliberating). The more you play the faster you will get. But yes, if you know you a slow player, you scheme choice might reflect that. However, your options get limited in a 4 round tournament.
  18. McMourning's not undead so doesn't get the armor, just so you know
  19. no one plays hoffman? perdita is book 1 you know...
  20. you can use them in slaughter to make unkillable models that will then be sacrificed so you can kill as much as you can and then not give your opponents any points. its kind of like pretended that you have stitched...
  21. A friend of mine was doing the warmachine stuff and i know he plays malifaux but i think even he had only like 7 or so people. the thing is dragoncon just isn't a gaming convention. i wouldn't want to bother walking around with minis, although i did contemplate a mcmourning costume.
  22. This is now the name of any painting awards I have in all of my future events. Now that is how a lawyer names an award
  23. if adam can pass the terrifying test he would probably win
