  1. Played a game today against a Viks crew. Got pretty hammered. He was fielding Viks with Von Schill, desperate Mercs and Killjoy. Boy was that a brutal team. Anyway, later on I was thinking about how to beat this crew and was looking at the cards for Viks and Von Schill. Viks can only hire mercenarys, but Von Schill has the freikorps rule that a crew hiring a freikorps can only hire other mercenaries that are Friekorps. So.............. my question is; was his crew legit?
  2. The book three fluff involves conversations with a hollow waif and implies that she chose to become one, so not really a zombie or an unwilling slave. She is able to interact with others and act as translator for Levi to hold conversation with the riders. Think the shackled thing is much more a mental link than physical. TBH when I looked at the female model I thought Essence of Power. But everyone has different taste.
  3. For example; Mcmourning wants to use dissection to kill a model to get 3 body parts then summon a flesh construct. Moderate damage is enough to kill most minions if they are already softened up, but you don't want to do severe damage as your activation would then end before you cast the summoning spell.
  4. Not sure at what point LCB makes the disengaging strike, but why would Jack fall? Falling applies to models without flight or float. models with flight or float simply ignore vertical distances. So at no point would Jack be hovering in mid air. when he moved off the tower he would measure his remaining movement at ground level. His base would either be on the tower or on ground level ---------- Post added at 12:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:33 PM ---------- Not sure at what point LCB makes the disengaging strike, but why would Jack fall? 5. I am based in Edinburgh and travelling to the event -room in the car for a couple of bodies if you are coming to edinburgh
  6. a beautiful little figure of death - hooded, cowled, scythe etc. Painted him black and the scythe blade silver. Bought it in Nottingham in school holidays in the early eighties -one of Citadels first ever models. Probably very basic (both the figure and the painting) by todays standards, but I loved it and 30 years later am still enjoying fantasy gaming and modelling. Think he cost about 50p!! And got a free citadel catalogue.
  7. I know Livingston has more than a passing resemblance to the more remote areas of north Georgia, but the only banjoes are in the little lead hands of gremlins.*evil* Honest. (turns away humming 'duelling banjoes')
  8. Rogue necromancy is at least part coffin-dodging kitty
  9. Don't worry mate, most of us are in a similar position. Got to start somewhere, and we're a friendly bunch
  10. well my recall is definitely dodgy - I firmly had it in my head that there were lots of ruthless models and only a few wicked ones. Did a little count: Ruthless; Von Schill Freikorps Trapper Convict Gunslinger Gunsmith Lazarus Hans Wicked; avatar Mcmourning avatarSeamus Shikome Lilith & avatar Lilith Lord Chompy mechanical rider Lilitu Think thats the lot, but given my track record so far there may be more of either. Somehow got it into my head that wicked was a fairly new ability as, unlike ruthless, wicked doesn't appear in the list of common abilities in the small rulebook and I don't cart the large ones round to games. Also, until book three, wicked was almost all neverborn and don't see much of them in my area. Might change my forum name from tattyted to Poohbear as Malifaux never ceases to surprise this bear of little brain.
  11. Yep, sweet . At first glance it seems counter -intuitive as IIRC there are only the three avatars that have wicked at the moment and it seems odd to specifically reference the ability and then have nothing affected by it (not that I am complaining). So Wyrd must have a long-term plan. Wonder what minion(s) in the future is going to have wicked?
  12. http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?27253-Avatar-Seamus-McMourning-versus-Sue&highlight=man+in+black%2C+wicked%2C+avatars Basically since avatars are attached rather than hired they don't trigger the ability. Not sure that any other models currently have wicked.
  13. Can you explain how that would work as play both Seamus and McM and would love to be able to field Sue. Both their avatars have wicked and Sue's Man in black states that he can't be hired by any crew containing 1 or more models with ruthless and/or wicked? Appreciate that the avatar does not start on the table but surely it is a part of the crew in same way as bete noire or killjoy, in that you pay points for it. Edit -found the answer! And both Seamus and McMourning can hire Sue and bring out avatar! Hot D***!!!!
  14. You can't run Sue with a crew that includes avatar McMourning though, on account he has wicked.
  15. Presumably since the games were brawls Calmdown can have 2 soapboxes
  16. Calmdown Quite agree that tournament play can help to highlight models that may be need a bit of tlc (if simply because they get a poor reputation). What I am thinking is that there is more to developing a balanced game than simply tournament results. I feel that WM/H suffers from a 'tournament syndrome' in that when one faction does well, a lot of people suddenly start/'rediscover' that faction. And it shows on the fourm boards. I don't get that feeling from Malifaux and hope I never will. I do feel however that, if all models were perfectly balanced, then the game would lose a lot of its character. Mind you, someone, somewhere might actually start using the malifaux child!
  17. Fair comment, but I am not sure I agree entirely. Tournament player don't set out to pick a balanced list, they set out to pick the models that give the 'best bang for the buck' as it were. This tends to mean they go to a small selection of the models available and other models that are considered less effective don't get used. Play testing of games to test balance surely isn't based on tournament or competitive play - it is surely based on the overall feel for the game. There is also the argument that a really good player can take models that are considered less effective and win with them. Leaving all that aside, I play a lot of Seamus and don't use the copycat killer neatly as much as I used to -with you on that one.
  18. Worlds at War in Livingston has a large range of the box crews and the rules, etc. (although they don't have them on their website they had about 15 different crews in stock on Saturday) Don't have the blisters yet but can order and are pretty good at getting your stuff in.
  19. I think it will be a sad day if the criterion for picking forces is how well the models perform in tournament play. People doing that would miss out on so many lovely models and lots of different variations in games.
  20. Thats near enough for me:Confused_Puppet:
  21. what Clamdown means is that with each attack at triple neg flip you flip a total of 4 cards so 2 attacks make eight. So far so good. And if you look at it one way then there is a good chance of getting the rj in 8 cards out of 45 However you can also look at it and say the ODDS of gettting the rj on any individual flip are not 8/45; first card flipped you have a odds of 44 to 1 of flipping rj, second card is a 43 to 1 chance, third a 42 to 1 etc. If you have flipped 7 cards and still not got the rj then the odds of getting it on the 8th flip are 37 to 1. As a resser player I would take these odds. Point of this - we can quote maths and figures till we bleed through each and every orifice and in the end what do we achieve? Now, can we please stop the naff maths (Mathifaux? Malimath?)and leave that to Mathhammer! Edit- my pc froze while typing this and by the time I posted the debate had quite rightly moved on. What are the odds of that eh?
  22. bbb Surely you could get the same effect with a needle file or a sharp knife and just file/pare down the flash a bit?
  23. the hard to wound 2 and red joker thing is, like all things malifaux, dependent on situation. Yes, if you have only half a deck left to flip, you have already flipped the black j and the red is still to come out then yes I accept that htw2 might just become a liability to your resser opponent. But as a Seamus player I would happily take that risk. If the red j is in your hand it is in effect useless a you cant cheat it in. And it can only be played once a turn unless you have some rare ability (Zoraida for example)
  24. that makes it tough. Only other possibilities might be Nurses (and not sure how the canine remains fit in)
  25. Hobbycraft - Draper wire cutters £4, 5x 1mm drill bits for £3.50. Add a bone saw for about £7 (Gale Force 9 one is good, GW one is rubbish)
