  1. What? Me bribe someone? I have no idea what you're talking about.
  2. Nice paint job and good base work. Definitely a bizarre sculpt. Welcome to the boards.
  3. Sorry to hear that, FF. Hopefully the lost information is retrievable somehow (like if you have a photographic memory or something) and the new system works for you.
  4. 19? Oh man, that's a distant (and blurry) memory! Happy Brithday, Matty! :fest06:
  5. Very nice work on this one. If this is just practice for the contest, then I can't wait to see your entries.

Excellent work, Bren. Interesting choice of colors (not saying they're bad; just interesting) and the freehand in a nice touch, IMO.

    I'm new too

Welcome to the boards, Brenda! Look forward to seeing your work.
  8. That is some great and incredibly smooth painting. Excellent work.
  9. First, she's looking pretty good. I really like the shimmer of the cloak. As for 1 & 2: hard to say. I really don't know. I would say that it's painter's discretion. Sorry I'm not more helpful with that. 3. I think you could pull off NMM without it looking strange or out of place. It might even help since it'll give the dress more of a "satin-y" feel while the metal parts feel more like metal. I could be completely wrong, though. OSL: I like the green idea. What might help is to look from behind the stand (your eye lined up pretty much with where the light will come from) onto the mini and try to visually place where the light will fall. Does that make any sense? Then, once you know where the light goes, give it a very thin wash of green that is slightly duller than the stand. One rule of OSL is that the highest point of the reflection is never brighter than the light source, so try to keep it duller than the stand. The further away from the stand, the duller the color will be; closer will be a bit brighter, as long as it isn't as bright as the stand itself. You don't want to kill the color of the dress or anything that the light is hitting unless it's a very bright light. Again, I could be completely wrong and all of this is just my advice and 2 cents worth.
  10. Amen to that, brother! Some people are just sick! (just messing with you, Ritual) @EricJ: I know what you mean. The triads were really good when I was just starting out, but now that I'm pushing myself to improve, it seems that they need some "help". Not saying that they're bad; it's just that I'm finding that I'm using something outside of the triad (or mixing with one of the colors) for shading/highlighting. Still, they are the only paint I've ever really worked with other than cheap hobby paints and I've been pretty happy with them. They thin nicely and go on pretty smooth. I might try some other paints, such as the Smoke and Ivory that have been mentioned. Sounds like they're pretty good.
  11. I kind of like Siobhana and Sielendria; they look like interesting sculpts. Some of the things that can be done with the chain pack are kinda cool. Reaper has a gallery with a few examples: Chain modifications gallery
  12. Yep, that's her. Heroes will be back on starting Jan. 22nd.
  13. Yeah, that was me. Tried adding my contest Sophie to my gallery. So, is Duende paying you off to keep my pictures out of the gallery, hmmmm?? Maybe a little bribe so I won't catch up to her?? I am so on to you, evil woman! Seriously, it's looking really great. You sound like you have your hands more than full, all so that us Wyrd-o's have a place to hang out, look at each other's work and chat. Many, many thanks, Nathan!
  14. That's some OSL goodness. Very convincing, especially with the rocks helping out.
  15. Well, I'm glad I'm not the first to screw things up so badly mini-wise. @Doc: I know what you mean; I keep doing stupid shit - like showing up at work when my boss is doing everything he can to either get me fired or make me quit. You think I'd learn. @Wren: Oh, yeah; I'm definitely using safety gear. That's a painful lesson I learned a long time ago. Since I've managed to ruin this mini, maybe I can use the tool on it and get some practice. Try out some of the different tips. I think it actually might have been a post you made somewhere that made me think of using a Dremel (or Dremel-type) tool to remove those damned bases. Not sure, though. @matty: A Dremel - and it's knock-off's - is kind of like a hand-held grinder. It certainly seems to be a fairly versatile tool; as long as you know how to use it (unlike me).
  16. I've been working on mini as a Christmas present for a friend of mine. Yeah, it's running really late, but I was taking my time since I wanted it to turn out really good. It's Christina the Devout (the one with the lantern) from Reaper and I was painting it up using OSL. It was turning out really nice; the OSL was looking really good. I had hoped to have it done in the next couple of days. But nooooo.... I picked up a rotary tool (Dremel knock-off) a couple days ago on sale. I thought: "This will be great for removing those integral bases!" I'm a fricking idiot. Bear in mind, the mini was over half done: eyes, skin, basecoat, primary OSL layers put on, etc. And I decided to start removing the base. I used cutters to remove most of the base and figured I would grind the rest off. Can you see what's coming? Oh yeah....I'm grinding away (bearing down a bit too much) and I slip. Badly. I didn't hurt myself, but I gouged the living f--- out of the mini and snapped the right leg off just below the knee. I mean it's bad. I would have to basically resculpt the right side from the knee to the torso: the armor (both platemail and chainmail), the right elbow and part of the leather skirt. It's just gone. It took about a second for all of that to happen. I just sat there for five minutes staring at the incredibly stupid crap I had just pulled. What the f--- was I thinking?! :cussing: Now I'm going to have to buy another one and start all over. Of course, I can't get another one until next week, so this mini is going to be so fricking late I might as well wait until next Christmas. Lesson learned: buy a f---ing jeweler's saw, remove the base before painting anything and stay the hell away from power tools.
  17. This is the Holiday Sophie that I'm entering into Reaper's Holiday Sophie painting contest. My first time painting a 54MM and doing a snow base. Comments and critiques are most welcome!
  18. That miniature is freaking sweet! I agree that the paint job is a little "meh", but I love the gore (yes, I'm twisted). Is this mini available here in the US?
  19. Very nice work. It has a dirty, muddy and worn kind of look to it.
  20. Happy Holidays everyone! Eat too much and have a good time!
