  1. Next time I'm in Germany on a convention I'm buying the piano. Now I can finally paint something for my sister. She's not into miniature painting at all but she's a fanatic piano player so she has to like it!

Thanks all, and yes Melvin, you should have been there. I can't recall painting a yellow PP mini though... or do you mean the Master Holt with the stupid yellow coat : but that was another type of yellow... The colors I used for the dress: base - GW Bubonic Brown shades - GW Snakebite Leather, GW Bestial Brown and VGC Charred Brown highlighted to white and lots of glazes of all colors except the white.
  3. I felt like painting yellow.. :-) Hope you like her!
  4. She's purple!!! You should have done that a few weeks earlier... I like her a lot. About the white as highlighting color, I use it often as well and like DH said you can glaze it down a bit afterwards. You can use the base color for glazing, but sometimes a new color can make things more interesting. Like some dark blue or red in case of purple. It create just a little more depth and it really isn't difficult. All you need is patience, since you have to use very thin layers so you don't ruin the blends.
  5. Already saw this one a while ago And I still think you designed her wonderful. I might buy one on the Mini Art Con!
  6. Wow, that looks great. I might try that myself one day. Greyhorde, I know exactly what you mean with 'the shutdown/glazed look in their eyes after 15 seconds'. Most of the times my relatives look at my models from about 50 cm distance and say: "wow, that's err... really nice... I guess..." On the other hand, last weekend my mom told me she'd like to try and paint a mini herself. I doubt she can see it though... maybe we should give it a try one day.
  7. As a matter of fact, I even have that issue with some of the IP themes. I've never entered, and this really isn't the main reason (it's more a time problem..). But I usually follow the rounds and entries and I'm always surprised what people come up with. Then I start thinking about how I myself would interpret the theme, most of the times that would be quite straight-forward. But some typical English things (jokes, typical expressions, I guess you know what I mean) I just seem to have missed, simply because English teachers in Holland never teach you such things :stupido:.
  8. @ Illustrange: man you really talk too much (but I already knew that ) About the contest, for me it's more about the competition than about the prizes. It might sound stupid, but I guess I have enough gift certificates to buy every Wyrd mini I don't own already. But still I want to enter. Just for fun, to push my painting skills and hopefully produce better minis every time. For me personally it would be cool to try to win a limited edition model. It's really great to have something others don't have... especially when you worked on your entry for -fil in a proper amount- hours.
  9. Hey guys, maybe I can help... next saturday there's a convention in Antwerp (Belgium), Freebooter miniatures will be there and I'm certainly going (unless I'm critically ill ). I can buy a mermaid for everyone who wants it desperately and send it over in an envelope (with some protection) for 1,84 euros shipping costs. So in total that would be 11,74 euros. I don't know how much that would be exactly in USD, but it sounds fair to me if you really want the model. Just one thing, please be certain about it if you want one, because I don't want to end up with even more mermaids (me and my boyfriend already got one for both of us so that's enough I think ). Please let me know if you want one...
  10. She's screaming because she's being pinched in the bottom But yes, open mouths are always a bit tricky. I hope my paintjob doesn't make it worse (nevertheless it was a tiny funny mini to paint).
  11. Personally I don't like the minis above, but there are quite some other Anima minis that I really like. I don't feel the need to buy them all, but I will definately buy some more (I already have a few in my collection). I like the fact that you can paint them colorfull without being punished for it :inlove:. Somehow I'm unable to paint the popular realistic/historical style-minis...
  12. As I promised, the reason Master Holt has a yellow coat... I first painted Aiyana, I quite liked the turquoise/yellow combination. So why not on Master Holt as well... the yellow on the back was a bit boring, hence the freehand. It's a bit strange, I agree, but I had fun and they look pretty nice together (if I'm allowed to say so myself ).
  13. Thank you all for your kind words :-) The shadows on the eyes are painted and yes, I had some pictures of him right before me while painting. I must have seen the movie at least ten times, but to do this from memory... no ;-)
  14. What a wonderful Masquerade mini! Definately the funniest mini I've painted so far He is standing on a medium sized warmachine base, I sculpted the nut and cracked ice myself Enjoy! And for the voting-thing... http://www.coolminiornot.com/174364 Thanks!
  15. Thanks Wren! You mentioned all the things I wasn't too sure about myself so this is a nice confirmation Daktari: I still have some problems with white... it just becomes grey OR totally white. I'll just have to practice more I guess. Same goes for the hair. Yovanka: It's indeed the yellow scarf that irritates me on the pics. In real life it is less flat, I took about 20 pics but it stayed the same. The thing she is standing on is eh... well... I had something in mind but that didn't work. Sadly I was unpatient and already glued her on the base, so I tried to hide it behind some plants And the ibis, I felt the overall composition needed some red and I didn't want to ruin the mini itself. I thought about a white ibis, but I fond this more attracting (or distracting, depends on how you look at it ).
