  1. I agree with this statement as well. Some models, such as the Desolation Engine specify that it heals based on the "Wounds" suffered, where other models, such as Seamus and McMourning both specify "Damage." As Darkjeebs stated, they are two different terms, and there are several threads in the Rules forums regarding them. Ubfortunately, none of those threads deal with this exact situation, so an official ruling would be nice.
  2. You got it, even the +1ss for hiring out of faction.
  3. Hey everyone, We will be hosting a Malifaux demo at the Uber-cool new Organized Play game/comic store at 221 Cumberland Avenue in downtown Knoxville. We will be starting at 1pm and going on until 5pm (or later, if need be). Either bring your own crew, or we can provide you pretty much anything that you are looking for. Depending on the interest, we are planning on a bi-weekly event, be it a demo, tournament or league. For directions on how to get to the shop, send me a message, give Morgan (the owner) a call at (865) 521-0691, or check out their Web site: http://www.organizedplay.org
  4. I would go with 2 Belles. Seamus will always be able to summon more. But take my advice on stride, by far, Seamus is my worst master.
  5. 1. Spells in combat only work like shooting into combat if they have the icon. Otherwise you can still pick your target, or even use the spell while the caster is involved in a melee. 2. With Reactivation, Ramos can get a 2nd activation, but the Brass Arachnid can only act again if only if he also is under the affect of Reactivate. Companion does not give an additional activation, it only allows the companions to activate simultaneously. 3. On page 91, they give you a suggestion for the amount of terrain. On a 3x3 field, approximately 2-4 pieces of area terrain (about 3"x3" pieces). Eat Your Fill is pretty nasty. Wait until you face the Executioner! Glad you all enjoyed the game. With experience, you will both pick up all kind of nasty tricks with your crews. The forums are filled with all kinds of tricks if you want a quick leg up.
  6. Welcome to the forums, and good luck with the Ortegas!

  8. It depends a lot on the situation. I don't like to proxy, so I haven't tried out the Crooked Men or the SPAs yet. With the difficulty in casting, I'm always looking for the biggest bang for the buck, so I usually go for a Flesh Construct as soon as possible. However, make sure that you don't get too many of them. I was up to 3 in one game, and simply activating them without Slow cost me half of my Fate hand each turn. My favorite summons are the Punk Zombies. They are simply fantastic shock troops, and you can rarely go wrong bringing one up. Plus the +2 CB and Df that Bolster can give them make them insanely tough. I rarely go for the Belles in a Nico list. I use them heavily in both Seamus and McMourning crews, but I really haven't found a click with them in my Nico crews. Lastly, you mentioned that you wouldn't use a Necropunk, but I have summoned them to great effect in Treasure Hunt scenarios, and they also great in Rubble. I am, however, completely with you on the Canine Remains. I just can't bring myself to summon a 2SS model when I could have a Punk Zombie or a Flesh Construct for the same spell.
  9. Welcome from a former Hoosier! As a kid, my family took the 3 hour trek to Plymouth many times. To this day, I can't eat blueberries without thinking of those trips.
  10. I occasionally use Bette in 40ss games, and rarely use her in 30ss. She is too pricey, in my opinion to use her in a lower cost game, and I almost never use her with any Master other than Nico; that boost to her CB and Def is too good to pass up! She can be a challenge to use. Although her special attacks are nice, her damage output and wounds don't live up to her point cost. You need to have a plan before you bring her onto the table. I tend to use her to tie up my more feared opponents, controlling their activations to reduce their threat. Against living models, Sever Spine is tremendous. If my opponents are not living, I will usually go for Mutilate. Groin Strike is great if you can kill a model quickly, and take advantage of her Fast to get into melee with a second. Regardless of her high Def, she rarely lasts over a turn or two before she needs to Become One with the Night, at least that has been the case in most of my games with her. I'm not really sure that I would take her in a Seamus army. The Belles are a staple, Luring your opponents to you so that you can pick them off one at a time. You have already got some hefty damage dealing models, and I'm not really sure that Bette will add a lot to them. Of course, the next poster will probably prove me completely wrong, using some wicked combo that i have never though of.
  11. Nowhere near you, but welcome to the forums all the same.
  12. Looks great! I can't wait to see the finished product.
  13. [ame] [/ame] Good tutorial. The superfine is very hard to work with though. Good luck!
  14. Are you one of the Sci-Fi employees? I'm a local Knoxvillian, but haven't been able to make it to a tourney down there yet. Hopefully if there is one in May...

  15. Welcome to the forums! The first crew that you get into depends a lot on your play style. If you like ranged, go with Perdita. If you like assault, go with Death Marshals or the Viktorias (also the Body Thieves, but you would need to purchase at least a couple blisters of Canine Remains as well). The Gremlins and the Redchappel Gang have some fun tricks to them, but both bring some problems to a new player. The Redchappel Gang can bring some serious undead reinforcements into play, but you are going to have to buy a good deal of Mindless Zombies, as well as some models to summon. I would recommend buying them as your last Resurrectionist crew. That way, you will already have a pool of models to choose from. The Gremlin Set can be a lot of fun, but I think that they have the biggest learning curve in the game to be the most effective. You will most likely lose several games with them before you will get a good feel. The above is just my opinions. NerdElemental did a great overview of all of the crews here: http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7657 Other than the above, check through some of the faction subforums, and you can get pretty good idea about a lot of likes and dislikes that other players have for each crew and master.
  16. You have to sometimes smack me around when I try to remember model costs from memory. In that case, I would go for an extra dog. Can't have too many dogs... I'm 100% behind you with the 1 Lure. I think you need at least 2 to maximize their potential. I am the only Pandora player in my circle, but if I played McMourning against her, I would definitely go for a Canine Remains pack- the more the merrier. Their WP of 5 gives them a shot against her CA of 6, and even her WP of 7. Even if she cheats with a Soul Stone, she is only getting rid of a 2 Soul Stone model (and McMourning and Sebastian can both make more). Use the Belle's to Lure your own models, or to try and pull Pandora's supporting cast into Charge range of your own models. Also, McMourning trying to overcome Pandora's Expose Fears is an uphill battle. Try getting Sebastian closer for a Bloody Harvest. You can target a Sorrow, and wipe out the group of them if you can get off good positioning. Also, the 4 Dg to Pandora is nice. Its kind of a gamble; if you can wipe out her Sorrows before she butchers Sebastian, its a good trade. I actually did a 40 SS McMourning vs Perdita yesterday. I had a Hanged (backed up with a Grave Spirit) in the list. Honestly, however, the killing field created by McMourning and the dogs made the Hanged almost useless. I should include that I got lucky with a "Slaughter" draw. My 40 SS list was: McMourning Sebastian Belle Bette Grave Spirit (Linked Immediately to the Hanged) 8 Canine Remains The Belle pulled important opponent models forward, and McMourning and the dogs eliminated them in short order. Not even Perdita stood up long to a circle of ravenous Canine Remains. By the time that the Hanged and Sebastian moved into position, everything was gone. In retrospect, I would have traded the Hanged and Grave Spirit for a couple more Belles and the Chihuahua, and I would have used a few Lures to bring Sebastian closer to the action. The thing about McMourning and the dogs is that they can move extremely quickly for a Rezzer list; it can be difficult to keep up. You really need to put together a list that can keep up with them.
  17. I think you have a good list. It is my firmest belief that McMourning works best with large groups of dogs. I would, however, drop the Punk Zombie and the extra SS in favor of another Belle. The Belle's Lure is great when used in tandem to bring the opponent to you. Also, it probably goes without saying, but McMourning should be in melee as soon as humanly possible. The way it has always worked out with me, if I take the first turn to Wrack and Dissect with McM, I always feel that it takes him too long to get into melee, and an enemy lives that should have been butchered. McMourning can generate his own body part counters at an alarming rate, and you can get the Flesh Construct soon enough.
  18. I'm game. Drop me a PM a little in advance, and I'll make the time...
  19. Between Knoxville and Pigeon Forge
  20. Not as mean as shooting up a man's alligator luggage.
  21. I also feel that cross-merchandising is currently the key to the FLGS survival. I think most stores that offer in store gaming are currently going the snack route. One big push that I have seen is into video games, both new and used. Curious concept. Are you thinking of a pizza/deli type place where you hit the counter, then go find your gaming table? There used to be a local movie place around here that served drinks and appetizers during the show. The seating was at tables as opposed to the traditional row seating. Many a great "Rocky Horror Picture Show" was seen there.
