  1. these cute ones are the young crocs, there are also gavials, gators and a big crocodile coming out eventually. Im really glad impact made the deal with rolljordan, not only did the concepts finally get some use , but they also look incredibly well
  2. darkson, the hands/pose of hands with weapon in the last two miniatures are almost if not exactly the same, are these bounty miniatures supposed to be modulable by any chance ? (switch different weapons between various aliens ? or even heads to make your own) much like your AEWW2 miniatures are ?

  4. At first I actually tought they were steampunk necromancer creations (techy bits etc.) but luckily they are not mercs, but resurrectionists, and indeed will fill up a mcMourning group nicely first dozen wyrd minis were must haves for me, then there were a few "like em, but dont desperately need them" and recently its gone all gotta catch them all again >_< the nurses, must haves and with all the new gremlin stuff, it means Im going to go for an outcast faction after all (tough, all things considered, the resurrectionists is my subfaction of choice and I have all its members so far )
  5. one clarification needed, especially as nicodem can take 2 totems (and totems seem to be optional.) Nicodem's vulture totem is not the vulture he is carrying around right ? a totem would be seperately based ? or am I wrong in this ?
  6. just the way I like them nurses
  7. would joining june summers with acorn be a perfect match rulewise ? nobody likes to hurt children in front of a tv camera
  8. in no means I know the inside of it, but Im guessing the gamin part is chosen more as a name than exactly representing what they are. if described as constructs I guess they are pretty much similair to golems and elementals, thus creatures constructed not from wood and iron but from pure elemental materials, only the gamin are smaller ones. mutated childs would be too much resurrectionist and demons would be too much neverborn I'd think.
  9. at first I tought a stiringe, but on second tought that is a scalpel. the other hand is obviously a hamburger or a small american pizza.
  10. once again... nurses !! PC, unPC , zombie, stitched together, or none of that and sexy-type evil instead, I dont care. there's way too few nurses and too many nuns in miniatureworld. (this really is only understandable if you had ever seen my portfolio around the time I joined wyrd ) I'll stop now.
  11. funny thing is.. was prepping freebooter's sister of mercy to be an assistant for them as well (would just pretend she'd be someone else from outcasts or something )
  12. out of curiosity, with the impending boxsets for 3 masters per faction, there is one we dont know alot about the contents etc. among my fave wyrdlings : the Morguemaster, he will have sebastian at his side offcourse, I suppose he brings his flesh construct as well ? but what else does he bring to the table ? hints ? sneakpeeks ? (once upon a time nathan or eric said "the island of dr moraeu anyone ?" but if I remember correctly this was about the beastmaster back then, but killjoy was a neverborn then and afaik pandora's sorrows were the little children and gremlins were going to be neverborn so obviously alot has changed.) just to resurrect some resurrectionist interest
  13. yes, (why cant I say things this short >_< ) also wouldnt that technically make the painters who get paid to do this "wrong" as well ? they paint and even get money for painting, but they dont game with what they paint ! damn them for ruining the hobby :twitch: painting and gaming are two different things, its not a matter of us wanting it to be two different things, its a fact. saying that one cant excist/be enjoyable/be allowed without the other is wrong, saying that only painting can excist without gaming, but not vice versa is elitist.
  14. there is a set standard, in a painting competition you only win of you are a good painter, in a gaming competition you only win if you are a good gamer, alot of people (including myself by the way.) are not to that level of either. but the big point is, I am not into this to win, if I want to win in a game Id try out chess, or if there is anything like it, an Advance wars tournament (as Im undefeated in that one.) but I dont care for the win I enjoy the hobby the way I like it, coming up with a story behind my chosen characters (I create "groups" before I read rules.) painting them and maybe try them in a game, if I get butchered all the time so be it, if I never win a painting competition, I dont care, because this hobby is not about winning anything, but about enjoying yourself. therefore I asked you, is it only entertaining for you if you can win ? because thats how your opinions make it sound (even tough Im sure it only sounds that way.) for most people, it isnt about winning, this hobby is too expensive and time consuming to be all about winning only. once again, Im not defending my "side" nor attacking your "side" this is not a pro or anti abortion discussion, its not that black and white. we are all on the same side, the same hobby we enjoy, Im more a painter/collector than a gamer (in fact, apart from pulp city and malifaux I have not a single complete group or army for any game.) but Im not good enough to ever win a painting competition.. technically speaking, Im on your side. however the group of people Im speaking in defence of.. people who like to game and like the miniatures (wich as I said are on theirself allready little pieces of art, even without paint.), the fluff, the art etc. but dont like to paint their miniatures (lack of time or they feel they cant do the quality miniatures justice.) are very likely not here on this forum (as this is a painters forum above all.) but that doesnt make it right to march all over them with elitist toughts of them not participating in the "true" hobby. I dont exactly see you putting on couterarguments to the "excuses" all you say is that its not true/doesnt cut it etc. but Id say, thats just your opinion. not everyone shares that opinion, respect those that dont share your opinion, let them enjoy the hobby their way, as you enjoy your hobby your way (unless it is all about winning for you, then indeed its not very enjoyable.) so again : when considering only both sides are part of the hobby together : if gamers are forced to paint, why shouldnt painters be forced to game as well ? it would be only fair. that would alienate the best painters in this industry. or is that somehow different ? if in fact the miniatures hobby is indeed all about painting first and gaming is a niche, why bother at all with making games ? in fact Im even worse, I dont paint alot, I hardly game, Ive a growing collection of miniatures and I like to give feedback to fluff and ideas (often in the form of concept art.) here and there. should I just be banned from the hobby then ? because I dont paint and dont game enough ? offcourse encouraging painting is a good thing, and wyrd definitely does that and has always been about that, but the same is true for the big ones too, they have painting competitions, tutorials in magazines (even with tips to do it quickly and easily.) and their own range of paints, so the painter both pro and amatheur are heavily supported, and people who are beginners are heavily motivated to get started on it, paint every now and then, but luckily, they dont HAVE to do it in order to enjoy miniatures and enjoy the games. often people who game with miniatures will try out painting at one time or another, but if they are forced to do it straight away or go find something else to enjoy, you alienate people from even getting to the point where they want to try it out. bottomline is, the way you voice your opinion on this matter (and again I think this is just how it sounds.) makes you sound bittered because you paint your miniatures, but never win a game from unpainted army, and never win in a painting competition and that has grown a bit of a grudge within you. Id say, if that is the case, dont put the blame with others, but look to yourself, is this hobby really for you, can you enjoy this without ever winning anything? because it is not about winning and it has never been.
  15. added a little disclaimer for those that dont know me longer, I might voice things harsh in discussions, but never mean things attacking, insulting or personal, even if it may come across that way.. 3 seasons for this : my personality , this is the internet and body language and tone dont come across, and because english is not native tongue. "I needed to separate this particular part out. In the last 5-10 years years this doesn't hold water imo. The hobby has been all about the 'game'. Why would you think the game should come first for? " Might have voiced some things wrongly. so Im trying it differently, Im not saying the hobby is all about the game, Im saying its two different hobbies, Im saying the GAME is all about the game. yes you play with beautyfull miniatures (wich in the defence of the wonderfull sculptors are still beautifull with paint on them, or do you dont think so ?) and some people like to paint their miniatures, and other people dont. for those that dont the game is still enjoyable as a game (you say so yourself.. alot of people game with unpainted miniatures, so for them the hobby is the game and the beautifull miniatures, but not the painting.) I think its an elitist and arrogant way of thinking to deny these people the right to enjoy the hobby the way they like to enjoy it, especially as the painting side of the hobby allready has alot of support in terms of competitions both for pros and amatheurs, painting classes onsite and tutorials online, forums (wyrd having begun as a more or less painters community.) etc. etc. painters have nothing to complain (nor do gamers-only currently, as tournaments currently DONT deny them to enjoy the game the way they enjoy it.) I also dont understand what the big problem is to you ? are you annoyed to lose in a game when your miniatures are painted and the competitors are not ? doesnt that actually make you even more concerned for "winning only" than they are ? again Im not necessarily saying the game is the important part and the rest is an extra (I voiced that differently I think.) Im saying when talking about game-tournaments.. the competitive side of the game.. in that case the other elements of the hobby are completely void, its all about the game then, just like with a painting competition somebody doesnt need to be a gamer. wich leads me to : "The hobby isn't two sides though. The hobby is painting and playing. It is us who want there to be two sides." nope, the hobby is two sides and only for some people these two sides join, alot of the painters here on wyrd, in fact alot of the constantly prizewinning painters in big competitions are no miniature gamers and alot of them dont care so much for the games, does that make them wrong ? equally, alot of people enjoy the game and beautifull miniatures only, and dont care for the painting, but do like to test their gaming skills in tournaments, are they wrong ? (and the part about if they wouldnt be painted you might just as well play with cardboard bits is crap.. games always have had a visual balance to it, to get more into the game, with miniature games these are miniatures, while alot of people like these to be painted (explaining PPP ranges relative success.) alot of them also can still enjoy it with just the metal miniatures.. just like games like star quest and hero quest were enjoyable without paint on them.) dont get me wrong, as I said I myself am someone who mostly enjoys the painting/creative side of the hobby, I prefer boardgames over tabletopgames for the gamingfix, and when playing with miniatures I myself would only play with those I have painted, Im just voicing in defence of those who only like to game and on whom you should not oppress your own opinion of what the hobby is.
  16. I completely disagree, not just globally with your opinion but also that game companies ignore the painting part. you see the Hobby is two-ways.. one side is painting, the other side is gaming. what you are saying is basically that the "competition" during gaming should also focus on painting.. but I think thats silly.. I mean the many painting competitions dont involve the gaming side right ? lets take the biggest company as an example... lets say someone enters golden demon with a unit of space marines, and the other enters a much better painted unit of grotz, but loses because grotz would never win from space marines in a game ? its completely silly, because the painting competition has technically speaking NOTHING to do with the gaming side. I understand and agree that it looks much better to see painted miniatures on the gametable, even people who dont want or can paint their miniatures for whatever reason would agree to that. but especially when talking about competitive gaming (tournaments.) it is in fact the game that matters, not the looks. and forcing these things together is unfair (as said before, there allready are painting competitions for the painting side, wich are usually much more rewarded and appraised than the game competitions as they are allready.) and also a bit stupid business wise, its allready an obscure hobby, dont make it even worse by alienating over half of the potentially interested parties. as for leaving miniatures unpainted being "insultive" to the companies ? not so sure about that, while I do paint my miniatures I often find my inproper paintjobs are much more insulting to the miniature than leaving it tin with a prime layer only also I dont see why a company should take insult by that. while its always good to see painted variants, the process from idea trough concept trough sculpt and final production, its allready rewarding on its own, and if people like and enjoy the final product but dont want to paint them, it shouldnt be insulting or any other negative emotion, after all, they like it so much its still ok in its bare form, a job well done Id say. so to round it up, I love the painting side of the hobby, but if anything the gaming side of the hobby is the underappreciated side of things (even tough we are talking about gaming miniatures here.. the game SHOULD come first, then the creative side.), lets not make that worse than it is.
  17. Id say resurrectionists. they have been out there for a while allready so the attention they gain recently has been mild. (I even think the only new mini they got since malifaux was properly announced was the flesh golem.. while most factions got entire new groups since then ) but also, I may be overlooking something, but the resurrectionists are also short a few minis (and especially a few "exclusivities" etc.) compared to other factions.. so Im curious whats coming up there. while my all time favorite wyrd mini is still Seamus, the Doctor, sebastian and flesh golem all 3 have potential of making up my favorite group but I dont know what else they have in store Im hoping not just zombies as well. lastly, most factions allready have generic extra miniatures, resurrectionists dont even have that.
  18. I dont know the rules of grind.. is it "simple" statwise (elfball and bloodbowl both have a couple of standard stat types.. as opposed to greatly varying stats for each miniature.) or comparable to warmachine itself (meaning each factions has several dozen unique jacks to choose from.) if the latter.. then are these supposed to be cygnar and khador jacks ? I actually hope the game uses simpler stat-systems (so the game is more about the game.. not about building a team.)
  19. no, did understand that no harm meant I meant it a bit differently, but its not a big deal. painted one is up now too btw. (to keep it a bit ontopic.)
  20. I voted yes, Im a romantic, and seeing viktoria and nerdelemental (and all her other henchmen) unite hits a softspot
  21. not really, venetian masked assasins is an older concept than V for vendetta (wich is actually a mask based on some historical british guy, whereas the other two masks are bautas.) and broadly using this for a faction in miniature gaming isnt exceptionally new either (eldar harlequins.) but these 3 assasins are the first miniatures in a full venetian assasin range for freebooters upcoming game. might not be impossible tough that V for vendetta inspired the general idea for that faction ( I dont know either way.) and I wouldnt mind an actual Not-V knifethrower among there myself. but these are clearly not supposed to be Not-Vs (because freebooter has no problem doing that blatantly, see their lara croft lol ) this particular one somehow reminded me more of that nicole kidman/tom cruise movie, tough no character is dressed like that really. I just wish werner manages to somehow boost up his releases beyond 1 a month. Id seen this miniature a while ago allready (same with the orc recently released.) and the assasins need a bit more to be playable.
  22. reminds me of a similair calibre of Vuurbaleiland ( http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1768 ) when I was younger my school had bought boardgames wich we played on friday and this was one of them, and its also one of those games that just dissapeared. the board shots are a little bit dissapointed tough, when I saw the first news with miniature pictures and the box covers, I hoped something more along the lines of aforementioned fireball island, legend of zagore and Darkworld (schwarze auge).. 3 games that still bring a smile on my face when I remember them http://boardgamegeek.com/images/boardgame/3794 http://boardgamegeek.com/images/thing/31
