  1. Well, I'll definitely be at ReaperCon. :-p I'll also most likely be at GenCon:Indy and possibly GenCon:SoCal as well.
  2. If you make it out to Atlanta, I'll definitely look for you. :-)
  3. As long as it doesn't have Winsor & Newton flow improver in it. That stuff tastes terrible!
  4. Brush licking is almost required when glazing. How else are you going to quickly get all of the glaze out of your brush so you can pull the excess off of the mini?
  5. I also noticed that there's only like a week between GD:LA and GenCon:Indy. Looks like the con schedule for '07 is going to be packed pretty tight.
  6. Even though I'm one of the faithless, I still celebrate Christmas. I'd prefer to skip it altogether, but I participate to humor my wife and my family. I don't want people to get me anything, but they invariably insist, so I end up getting stuff that I don't really need. Traditionally, the holidays are for gathering with your family and all the assorted parties that go along with that. Since I really don't get into the family thing (and honestly think alot of them are a pain in the ass), the holidays are my least favorite time of the year. We put up a tree in the house, and I typically spoil my wife with gifts. Sometimes my mother (and occasionally my father as well) decides she wants to come out to visit us (uninvited, but what can you do when she buys plane tickets and then tells you she's coming?). This year, thankfully, it will just be me and the wife. I suspect it will be the nicest Christmas ever.
  7. Wow. Atlanta is now at the end of April instead of mid-March. That gives me some breathing room between GenghisCon and GD:A, but less time between GD:A and ReaperCon. What to do?
  8. So far I haven't been a big fan of the MSMs. Maybe once the 54mm Monique de Noir comes out, that will change. I guess we'll see.
  9. My prize package arrived yesterday as well! Lots of cool stuff in there. :-)
  10. Thanks everyone! CMoN is currently hosed, which is why the link is broken. @gi6ers -- The backs of the wings were basecoated and then given some basic highlights before I put the spots on. Then I glazed the crap out of the wings. I was hoping it would make the spots fade toward the lighter parts, and it worked pretty well. @skya -- I agree about the lamppost. I thought about leaving it off completely. @wren -- Toronto is the Danforth & Pape intersection I was thinking of. I didn't want to do a New Orleans intersection for fear of being too cliché. The reference(s) are pretty obscure. First, there's a section of an instrumental Rush song ("La Villa Strangiato") called "Danforth & Pape". Second, there's a Kids in the Hall sketch where they make reference to that intersection.
  11. I don't believe Werner sculpted this. Neither of her eyes is covered by hair. Also, she's not looking down.
  12. Hey everyone! The time has come for me to unveil the mini I've been working on for the majority of this month. I didn't keep track, but I'd venture a guess that I put in somewhere around 40 hours on it. I'll be packing this one up and shipping it to Reaper very soon, and it will be one of the Sophies up for auction sometime in early 2007. I think it might go for a little more than what it would have gone for in a blister. This is somewhat rare for me, as I usually don't keep track of what I use for colors when I'm painting. This time I did, because I figured people would be interested. Everything listed here is Reaper Master Series paint. The skintones (and wings) were as follows: 50/50 mix of Dark Skin and Rosy Shadow Rosy Shadow Rosy Skin Rosy Highlight Fair Skin Fair Highlight The hair was this: Golden Blonde base Oiled Leather wash Golden Blonde Linen White Pure White The dress was this: Deep Amethyst (with a little bit of black) Ritterlich Blue Sapphire Blue (whit a touch of Ritterlich) Deep Ocean Marine Teal Jade Green Spring Green Lemon Yellow glazed with Marine Teal and Jade Green shadows cleaned up a bit with Deep Amethyst. I have some intermediate shots of the dress that I can share if you are interested. The stockings went through multiple iterations, but I think in the end it was mostly linen white, pure white, and glazes of a mixture of pale indigo and rosy flesh. Comments/critiques always appreciated. Also, don't be shy about asking questions either. For larger pictures and 4 more angles, go here. This is a 515kb file and is 800x5440 pixels. Also, feel free to vote on this one at Cool Mini or Not Thanks for looking!
  13. She was released this week, along with the ilithid pirate. The chick with the flaming sword will be out next month.
  14. Now I've got the song "Squonk" stuck in my head.
  15. You guys are freaks. :-p It's either salsa or mustard for my fries.
  16. I keep telling people that I don't want anything, but they never listen.
  17. heh...it's what I do with my mid-nor dwarves. Pilzenbihr has one as well.

Welcome! Would you believe I went to school at EKU?
  19. This one has been in the works for about 2 months. I finally got it finished up last night. This summer I took a few months off from painting. When I started up again, I wanted to do something that would force me to concentrate mostly on technique without having to worry about color schemes. So I picked this figure with the intention of trying to get it to look like the version that was done by the Rackham artists. In the end, I changed a few things about the color scheme, but for the most part it is pretty close. I decided to forgo the freehand on the offhand sword. For those of you who feel inclined, this is up on CoolMiniOrNot Without further ado, I present Nérak le Hardi.
  20. The pigment seems to like to clump together, but keeping it mixed in the palette helps. I usually thin the Smoke quite a bit, and don't apply a whole lot to the figure. I don't really use it as a wash, but more for tinting. If it dries funky (which it sometimes does), I'll go back over it with a glaze of whatever color I had under the Smoke.
  21. And of course, I transfered all of the paints I had in pots to droppers. :-p Now I'm almost exclusively using RMS paints. I still have my bottle of Vallejo Smoke that I use religiously.
  22. I have a habit of noticing idiosyncrasies that people have. Mostly with expressions they use in their speech, but also some of their mannerisms. When I bring it up, they wonder what the hell I'm talking about. But others who observe these people also start noticing them once I bring it up. Also, if I'm exposed to someone with an accent for even a short period of time, I start actually using it myself. I went on an observing run while in grad school where I spent some time with a Brit, and Aussie, and a Brazilian. I spent the better part of a month with them. I came home with the wierdest accent ever.
  23. Lots of nice stuff there. I'll probably be picking up some of these.
  24. Once a year a bunch of prog geeks from the Denver/ColoSprings area rent out a place and play a bunch of our favorites. So yeah, I was playing in a club, but it's not very often. And yes, that's a headless bass. I've had it for about 20 years now.
