  1. People covet my trashcan. I've thought about putting the contents of my trashcan up for auction at ReaperCon. Unfortunately, there's only one mini in there right now.
  2. Another nameless mini from Dark Sword (sculpted by Jeff Grace). Anyway, after starting on a piece for ReaperCon, then deciding to throw it away (but it was taken from me before it found the trash), I decided to paint up something else for fun instead. Nothing too terribly ambitious with this one, although I did put some freehand on it. Kinda sloppy in spots, but meh. It's ok. Good enough for a weekend's effort.
  3. You missed GenghisCon XXX in Denver last month.
  4. It's funny...on my machine at home, it looks fine. On this laptop, it's too bright. I guess I need to tweak the brightness/contrast on my iMac. :-/
  5. Apologies to those who might have seen this on the other two sites I usually post new stuff on... I started on this one sometime around 2006 or 2007. I was pretty happy with the water that I sculpted at the time, but could never figure out what I wanted to do to finish it, so it sat on my painting desk collecting dust since then. I usually throw figures away when I can't figure out how to finish them, but I kept this one around solely for the base. I'd been meaning to pick this one up again and finish it off for quite some time now, but could never figure out how I wanted to paint the tail, since there aren't any sculpted scales on it. Yesterday I thought I'd try doing some stippling on it to see how that went. I was pretty happy with that, but then decided I didn't like the skintones. So I repainted all of the skin. Then I repainted the hair. And on and on. By the time I decided I'd done enough on it, I'd probably spent somewhere around 8 hours on it, and the only thing on the figure that I hadn't repainted was the water, the chain, and some of the vegetation.
  6. I don't think this guy has a name, so I'll just call him the elf dude. Recently I picked up a few of the Dark Sword figures that Jeff Grace has sculpted, and I'm really impressed with them. Very cool stuff. Anyway, this is another of my 'warm-up' pieces before I start working on things for ReaperCon. Please be as nasty as you like in your critiques. I know a few things that I think could use some work on this guy, but I'm moving on to other pieces for now. He's good enough to call done.
  7. Just a note about the new Finari in case people aren't aware--it's 54mm for their Master Series Miniatures line.
  8. After getting only 4 figures finished in 2008, I picked up the brushes again about 3 weeks ago, and have already finished 3 figures this year. Still trying to work out the rust before I try to tackle anything too serious. Mostly these were just to see if I still knew which end of the brush to use. 9. Femme Falale is in Feb/March, IIRC.
  10. Wren, there's a guy in Reaper's Chronoscope line who looks kinda like that: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Chronoscope/latest/50008#detail/50008_jack_harrison_front_rc
  11. Hey SnowWhite. How's it going?
  12. The pics of the winners of the ReaperCon contest are now up. The Masters category were judged by public voting--anyone who entered a model in the other categories could vote on their top two. In addition to that, three celebrity judges were given extra votes. This year, the celebrity judges were Julie Guthrie, Werner Klocke, and Patrick Keith. All other categories were judged by Derek Schubert, Jennifer Haley, and Anne Foerster. http://www.reapermini.com/ReaperCon#Paint_Contest/2007_Winners
  13. There will be pics on the Reaper site Soon Maybe they'll give me the task of unloading the camera and cropping everything. I'm here until Wednesday night.
  14. I don't think I've seen the winners of the ReaperCon painting contests announced anywhere, so I thought I'd pass along the names (that I can remember) of the winners. Masters: Gold - Doug Jones Silver - Derek Schubert Bronze - Marike Reimer DHL Small: Gold - Wren! Silver - Bronze - DHL Large: Gold - Kirk Troy (Lili's husband) Silver - Bronze - Warlord Small: Gold - Angela Landt Silver - Bronze - Warlord Large: Gold - Lori Nelson Silver - Bronze - Wren Warlord Unit: Gold - Angela Landt Silver - Kris Marquardt Bronze - CAV: Gold - Vince Landt (Angela's BIL) Silver - Bronze - Open: Gold - Jennifer Kaufmann Silver - George Mickelson (eastman) Bronze - Best In Show: WREN!!! Best in show is given to the best of the golds from the non-masters categories. I think there is a cash prize involved, and the winner gets moved into the Masters categories for all future ReaperCon painting contests. :-) Once I remember the others, I'll fill them in as well.
  15. I saw Jen Haley's painted version of this earlier today, and I think Amy Brehm is prepping one as well. How often is it that a peon like me gets to sit and paint with Amy on my left and Jen on my right? And about 10 feet from Werner Klocke, Sandra Garrity, Jason Weibe, and Derek Schubert? Ah, the joys of ReaperCon.
  16. I had originally intended to go and even teach there. Then I decided to quit painting. Now I'm kinda painting again, but not going to do contests anymore. There's really not much point to me going out to Indy other than just to hang out with folks. Also, with both my sister and brother getting married this year, I really can't spare the vacation days.
  17. I have a feeling that's not where they keep their secrets.
  18. ...if I didn't want to quit everytime I pick up a brush anymore.
  19. I'll be at GenCon this year for the first time. I'll be teaching a few classes, and hope to have a few entries for the painting competition. I'm looking forward to meeting those of you that I haven't met already. Those who have already met me will probably avoid me at all costs. :-p
  20. I've seen you on CofC quite a bit, even though I'm not very active over there. Welcome to Wyrd!
  21. I listen to alot of different stuff when I paint, but I think my favourite group to listen to while painting is Ozric Tentacles.
  22. Maybe it was my dark flesh that was lighter than the medium flesh.
  23. Isn't the VMC light flesh actually darker than the VMC medium flesh?
  24. Alot of these 'new' DHL figures are actually figures that were in some of the old box sets that are just being put into blisters. Most of the pirates in this group were from Pirates of the Dragonspine Sea set, and the angel was from the Guardians of the Heavens set. I'm looking forward to seeing more 'really new' DHL figures.
