Kirai's malevolence do spirits count as undead?

Basically the topic pretty much is the question. I have been playing it that if it doesn't have the undead type it doesn't work. I'm staring to question this because she is supposed to be the spirit master but a vast majority of spirits that have synergy in her crew are straight spirits and malevolence states living or undead. I'm just double checking that I was doing it right and not nerfing myself. Thanks

Spirits are not automaticqlly undead, they need to have the undead tag as well.

Hanged and shikome are both for example.

That's what i thought/was afraid was right. that means that , goryo,gaki,onryo, aren't protected by the threat of ikryo

Correct.  Initially it was all the expensive spirits that got protection, but the Goryo are sort of an outlier there.   At least it means the rotten belle you likely brought along gets the help.

And the Nurse, Flesh Construct, Izamu, Phillip, Datsue-ba, Chiaki, (I also really like the Rogue Necromancy)!

Really, pretty much all of your starting crew will have protection.  The only real unfortunate one is the Goryo .
