Ashes and dust cannot gain any condition and those two are conditions so it cannot gain them, there is no need for errata/faq. In older strats you wanted to put conditions on opponents but now you want it on your own models so this reduced the power of A&D a little bit. This was a deliberate change to mess with A&D as well as Hamelin. Hamelin can choose to gain it but so can the enemy, it used to be impossible to score certain things against Hamelin, Nixx and A&D.
