thebarbalag
Thought this was pretty cool. Maybe the first "modern," recreational wargame, written by H.G. Wells, loosely based on the Prussian training game Kriegspiel. Anyway, this is "Little Wars: A game for Boys from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty, and for that more intelligent sort of girl who likes boys' games and books" http://www.gutenberg.org/files/3691/3691-h/3691-h.htm
Mister_Q
An oldy but a goody! 2013 is also the 100th anniversary of the publication of Little Wars. Check out some of Donald Featherstone's books for a look at more recent wargaming history (from the 1960s and '70s).
