faeslayer
HI! Just starting out with Malifaux here; haven't even played a game. I couldn't resist the Rasputina box, though, and I've heard she's a great master to learn with. While I'm usually pretty creative with my color choices, I couldn't do better than the scheme on the box. Since the Rasputina model is 90% of the reason I chose this faction/master, I'm starting with her. This is what I've got so far... the boots/sash/pouch still need love, and probably the rims on the goggles.
[AWaC]Odin
Great looking paint job. Friendly recommendations on possible touch ups: Boots just need some love, maybe very thin highlights to make the straps and lasses stand out.Sash could use a bit of darkening in its recesses. The thighs could be lightened up to make the space between the dress and socks stand out more, and to help match the color of her face. And as you mentioned, the pouch.Very nice job so far. faeslayer
Thanks! The boots and sash aren't finished, yeah (there's some exposed metal on the boot, even, from my stupid thumb bumping into it once. ). I have a feeling those boots are going to be an endeavor, with all the tiny straps. The skin is VERY close to the color of her clothing, and both are shaded with a mix of purple and grey. In the art, they're almost the same color, and I thought that looked like a challenge. Of course, now i'm wondering if I should do the same with the skin of her Silent One, once I get one of those. durek
Nice job, I'm fearful of white dominant models, never seem to turn out for me. But you've done a beautiful job. Can't wait to see it finished. I'm having a real hard time painting mine. Put it off for a year because I couldn't settle on a colour. Just decided to get it done as a trial run for the alt sculpt. Lordgimpet
I really like this, She was also the first art I ever saw of this game and was drawn to her but I have been aprehensive of painting her. Your effort has reignighted my intrest in giving her another look at and change from my strong Neverborn favortisim
Ebonstar
Makes me appreciate the original sculpt a bit more- I like it!

von Clausewitz
The goggles are particularly impressive. Getting such uniform lighting effects on that small of an object is no easy task.
faeslayer
Thanks! I finished her today... I think she came out okay. There's some dust in the paint and other blemishes; I'm getting back in the swing of painting carefully instead of painting for speed (bad habits from my 40k army). But I like how she came out! Next up is the ice golem...
durek
nice finishing touches, really like the pale feel to it.
[AWaC]Odin
Awesome. You did a great job on the final touches. Love the way you finished the legs and sash. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the crew.

faeslayer
My ice golem, WIP... This guy is a learning experience and no mistake! I'm learning to do glazes and paint sorta-convincing crystals at the same time, with mixed results. He might not come out as I'd hoped but I've already learned so much that it'll be worth it. Fenrir
Lovely clean, cold, work on Rasputina. Superb!
faeslayer
My ice golem is FINALLY done. Crystals are difficult to do! I think I might put off getting Rasputina's avatar 'til last. Some photos from my desktop...

durek
very nice thechnique used for the "crystal" effect.
Mydnight
Very nicely done! I love the streaking/crystal effect on the Ice Golem! I have a hard time wrapping my head around the concept of getting that done. If only I could figure out a way my stuff might be as awesome as yours :-)
faeslayer
It was kinda tedious, but my formula was this: Most facets were gradients, going p3 troll skin to a darker mix of that color. Darker at top, lighter at bottom, usually (I lost track a couple times... but it's hard to spot ). Like with gems, how those are lighter at the bottom, for each facet. Facets which were more-or-less pointed skyward were "lit up" instead with a very light mix of troll skin and white. Viewed from the top, it's almost all "lit up" facets. Then, I made a very dark blue-grey mix of troll skin and black, and lined the deepest recesses (joints, armpits, the six-pack). This was not precise. More like a wash... Finally, I edged the tops and sides of facets with a thin white line. The white lines along edges helped hide sloppier bits and add crisp shinyness to what would otherwise have been messy or not very distinctive facets. And that's all there was to it! I used a lot of acrylic medium for the blending, and learned to never forget: glaze light on dark, and not vice versa...
cheetor
Great work so far, particularly on the golem. It makes me want to try painting that figure using your technique
faeslayer
While I'm really pleased with how the crew came out, alas, I've decided to stick it on eBay and switch to Colette or Kirai. I really enjoy painting with a variety of colors, and while painting this scheme is definitely pleasant, a crew with more chromatic variety will hold my painting interest longer. But here's some final photos!
faeslayer
incidentally, if anyone's interested, the crew is for sale at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/270984704258 If it sells, you'll soon see another thread from me, wherein I paint a sexy NEW crew.
