bowchikawowers
it's really vanilla pudding in a mayo jar right?
Mako
Yeah, it's getting a bit crazy even for me. Three for the basic tone, faded to a fourth, four shades, three highlights and a lot of glazes and accents...

Mako
Hey, after all the work on the base, the crew had best be good enough to do well! Lol
edonil
Oh, I agree, but still.
Mako
It's what it ended up taking to get the judge's skin looking suitably dead too. All the different really subtle colours have to be in there, otherwise it just looked flat, somehow.
bowchikawowers
if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. Still, gotta be careful you don't overdo it Mako. that's an awful lot of paint...
Evilbleachman
And back with food. ALL FOR ME THOUGH! SILENCE! Also Mako, not one of your minis looks 'flat'. Stop being a silly willy and enjoy the hobby. :B

Mister Shine
Mako, using 15 paints for skin when there's one with elf flesh written right on it! Rubbish...
edonil
Good lord I hated that color. Dwarf flesh too. I think the only flesh tone from GW I've ever liked was Tallarn, and that only worked when I started mixing in purples and bones for shading and highlights. Mako
Eh, there's gaming table flat, and 'this is going to be intently studied and judged' flat. Hm, maybe I should do an article on the process of painting for competitions. It's a very different beast...
edonil
Based on the tutorials on WAMP, you're not kidding.
Evilbleachman
While at it Mako, could you do a tutorial on how to make cobblestones? Would really help!

Mako
Based on the tutorials on WAMP, you're not kidding. Yeah. It really gets complicated. Painting tutorials get hugely difficult to do because of the back and forth and complex glazing, but there's a whole approach and planning thing that's just as important really that people very rarely break down. The do's and don'ts of actually getting things entered as it were.
edonil
Reminds me of some of the things I've read about actually getting published, not just dealing with writing.
Mako
Aye ed, tis a similar idea. Actually getting it finished and presenting it publicly is the hardest bit really!

Mako
Same reason Lockheed Martin used to have a skunkworks - nine out of ten ideas are total rubbish, but that tenth is something epic. Least, that's what I tell myself!
