Alp Bombs - How?

My favorite crew is Lilith's and she does not do well against the Dreamer. He is too slippery. I do play all the Neverborn Masters along with Ophelia and Kin. I have been running scenarios through my mind on how to lock down and kill the Dreamer or Day Dreams to stop his movement nightmare. But I keep coming to the conclusion it is going to take the Dreamer player to make the mistake and put his models in my threat range after he activates that model.

But like I said, a good player will not do that and just leave the Alps unburied by a Day Dream in his deployment and out activate you by having them all defensive stance and aura while you activate all your models leaving him to strike out with his Day dreams and LCB after all your models have activated. Or if you are clumped up he then sets up to drop the bomb top of the next turn activating LCB first to kill an terrifying models first then POP!

Again if you hold a model with an AOE attack in ready he will hold off unless the exchange works in his favor and will instead continue to strike out with the Day Dreams dropping LCB like a &@$!#% then buries him and retreats the dreamer back again.

Genetic has got this down to a science and thankfully only pulls it out when someone asks to play it. Even then with others knowing what they are facing no one has beat it to my knowledge.

But if you have a tactic for getting the Dreamer that does not require the Dreamer player going after some bait, he is too smart for that, then I am all ears.

use alps with lilith ive done it against colette. transpositioning someone into the pack is fun

One way of disupting is as follows. Its about as eggs in basket as the alp bomb, so expect people to learn ways to counter it, but doing so will compromise their own objectives.

2 matures, Lileth and Cherub. set them up with one of the matures just behind the rest.

Activate this one and double wing buff the rest of the crew towards the mass of alps. (6 inches)

Activation 2, activate Cherub and Lileth. Cherub casts eartquake moving them towards the alps ( 8 Inches). Activate Lileth, Brood mother the unactivated mature. Double walk towards the alps and then cast transposition on the mature and one of the bomb models (Ideally a daydream that is more than 1 inch away from any alps). Try and get the willpower flip as a straight flip, or at least be within melee range of two if you can't manage that. Total distance from the edge of your deployment is upto 32 inches.

Activate the mature. Knock aside and rip in half are both great triggers to try and get off as they will disrupt the whole formation.

Worse case, you should have killed 6 points worth of Alps (melee attack, walk, melee attack). If you've managed a rip in half trigger, then all the alps will be taking morale tests. Some luck with knock aside could allow you to even get to the dreamer. As could transpositioning next to him and wing buffeting.

This has probably cost you the mature nephlim to the chompybits return strike, but the bomb isn't in a position to be set for at least one more turn.

The use of a terror tot would allow the cherub to bring the second mature up in turn two to repeat the trick.

I think in a straight fight between Lileth and chompy/dreamer, I would expect Lileth to win, even if the dreamer had a couple of other minions.

I see some possible counters with all of my crews...thankfully (As I play against the Dreamer often, and if he ever takes an Alp bomb I'll have some Idea of what to do).

Levi - In addition to throwing in constructs with blast damage weapons into the crew, Levi and Alyce can take care of them. Push Levi up with (+1) Necromantic Sacrifice, then (0) Desolation, which will drop all the alps to 1 wd. Then move alyce up, not on top of them, but close to some of them. Yes she'll take a little damage, but then she can use (0) Bag of tricks - Booby Traps. This forces the Alps to move away from Alyce or die during their activation and can move the bomb, or disrupt it entirely. As I said, you could also take a construct with a blast weapon and hit the bomb with it after Levi's (0) Desolation (or Ryle, even if he does weak dmg, he can gun down damn near the entire bomb if they're all at 1 wd).

Hamelin - ...Ummm...Irresistable Lure. He'll take some damage, but he can always come back, and you can take the whole bomb out in 1-2 casts, thus wrecking your opponents primary tactic for the game.

Von Schill - Specialist+Detonate Tanks = Dead Alp Bomb. If they bomb another model (say a strategically placed decoy, hehe), just activate the specialist and target your own model with the Flammenwerfer.

That was a general idea,now the problem with this is the terrifying from the dreamer on all the alps. and the insidious madness that popped along with it. so now,you have to make a ton of terrifying checks which you got negatives on or run away. The simple fact is the Alp bomb has gotten a few new tricks. and they have made it so that their isnt really any easy answer to it.

hamelin himself wont need to check for terrifing (soulless) rat catchers and rats would tho

True,I was talking more about the specialist lol. Though...I do have an idea that I am going to try out on genetic and see if I can be the first to actually beat his alp bomb.

I will post how it goes afterwards. Though I will say it pretty much requires setting up in this manner to make it work. you pretty much have to start out like this or have the time to move into position.
