Waldo's Weekly - Rising Heat

Recommended Posts

Hey Wyrdos!

This week, Waldo’s been full of fire and verve… mostly because he FINALLY got his Impishly Hot Sauce replaced. He’s put it on everything. Including our lunches. While we deal with watering eyes and burned taste buds, let’s take a deeper look into some equally hot models being released this month!

Director Rodriguez and Ashbringers

Director Rodriguez

Director Rodriguez is a powerful new Henchmen for the Marshal and Witch Hunter Keywords. Hovering Flame makes it difficult to keep him out of the fight and Flaming Fist means he’ll do a lot of damage once he gets there. Beyond his offensive powers, he has some of the best defenses in the two Keywords with Armor +1 and Hard to Kill.

Both Keywords will also find his Funeral Rites Action very helpful as it Creates a Terrain Marker for the Titles that use Markers.

In Marshal

In Marshal, Director Rodriguez is a melee threat that pairs very well with Lady Justice. Hovering Flame allows Director Rodriguez to keep up with Lady Justice’s Leap and Blaze of Glory means he will hit more often than not. Breath of Fire is also helpful to Marshal players as both Triggers are amazing for a Marshal Crew. Into Dust synergizes with Marshal’s Undead game and Stain’s Adversary (Enemy) allows a Marshal Crew to land more big hits.

When not Attacking models, Director Rodriguez is surprisingly good at supporting a Marshal Crew. The Art of Undeath gives the Undead Characteristic to enemy models which facilitates various Marshal Actions and Triggers. Finally, Funeral Rites provides another Coffin Marker for Lady Justice, Death Touched.

In Witch Hunter

In Witch Hunter Director Rodriguez turns up the heat. He has a lot of different ways to put Burning on enemies. He can move through them with Hovering Flame, hit them with Breath of Fire, or smack them with Flaming Fist. He can even Pulse it out with the Rising Flames Trigger.

For a model who puts out a lot of Burning, Director Rodriguez is especially resistant to fire himself. Armor +1 and Fireproof means that Director Rodriguez will only take damage from Burning if he has Burning +7 or higher. This allows Director Rodriguez to stand in Pyre Markers or in Sonnia Criid’s Smoldering Soul Auras to stack a lot of Burning on himself to use to fuel Blaze of Glory without worrying about taking Burning related damage.

Ashbringer

Ashbringers are a supportive Minion that can Heal friends or put Burning on enemy models as the situation warrants. They can put out Burning with any of their Attack Actions, which makes them a good way to start stacking Burning on enemies. Once Burning is out, Embrace the Flame, allows an Ashbringer to Heal up friends and remove any Burning accidentally applied to friendlies.

In Marshal

In Marshal, Ashbringers are interesting models. Armor +1 allows them to survive longer than most Guild Minions. Embrace the Flame combined with Path of Ashes means they can quickly heal up friendly models. This makes them a good healer for Marshal Crews with models that a Domador de Cadaveres cannot Heal. When Healing is not needed, False Accusation is another way to give the Undead Characteristic to enemy models.

An Ashbringer is also a very good hire along with Director Rodriguez. As Marshal doesn’t put out any Burning, Path of Ashes and Fiery Presence are great ways to build Burning up on Director Rodriguez.

In Witch Hunter

While Healing with Ashbringers in Marshal takes up a bit of set-up, this is not the case in Witch Hunter. Witch Hunter Crews have varied access to Burning. This means that an Ashbringer’s Embrace the Flame Action should always have viable targets to Heal.

Ashbringers are especially useful with Sonnia Criid thanks to Path of Ashes. Path of Ashes is an easy way to put Burning on an enemy model without doing any other damage. This makes Ashbringers a very good way to build up Burning for Sonnia Criid’s Scorch the Soul Action and Smothering Flame Ability.

This also marks week three of the Fractured Futures campaign, where players will decide the fate of Nia! We won’t be giving rankings this week, though scores are close with Tri-Chi, Bandit, and Redchapel in the top 3! But with just a small nudge here and there, there could be quite the shakeup in the standings. In the meantime please enjoy these additional sneak peeks at what Nia could become:
