With Aionus' Midnight trigger "After resolving, place a friendly or enemy Scheme Marker (your choice) within 2" of this model", is this a Place as in push/place - so take a scheme marker already in play and Place it within 2" or is this a Place as in the interact meaning of the term, so placing a new marker into play?

It's a new one.

If it would be an existing one, the ability would be written something like: "target/choose a scheme marker in play" etc.

The actual ability is targeting all of the friendly markers in play, so the trigger reads as if it's a continuation of that ability, otherwise I wouldn't have had the question.

The standard wording for placing a new scheme marker is just "place". Actions that place them as in changing the position of an already existing marker would need specific wording to differentiate from that base wording such as "select any marker in play and place it within 2" of this model".

You have a reference for how such an effect would look in his other tactical on the same card called "Time changes all".
