During the game, you consider its soulstone cost to be what is printed on the card. 

So for example, Leveticus can't hire a Performer and use it as an anchor since it is a 5ss model, even though you paid 6 ss to hire it in the crew. 

This would also apply for public demonstration, or vendetta.

The rules quote is one of those callout boxes in the rulebook:

Quote

Soulstone Cost

When a rule refers to a model's Soulstone Cost it is referring to the printed Soulstone Cost of the model. Anything that causes a model to cost more (or less) is ignored, such as Upgrades or the Mercenary Characteristic.
