Old Man Gloom
Hey, So, I'm looking at all of these pictures of beautifully painted models online and a lot of them are done with a combination of airbrush and some detail done by hand. The bottom line is I love the perfect transition of colors which airbrushing provides. Just the highlights and shading that you can get out of an airbrush are amazing. Needless to say, I'm not willing to spend a fortune on an airbrush kit but, at the same time I don't want to waste money on a piece of junk. Any advice that you guys or gals can provide to set me in the right direction? -Thanks!
tmod
I started out with a hardware comoressor, a moisture trap/regulator, and a harder & Steenbeck brush. One of their cheapest ones, but still not exactly cheap... Very happy with this as a starting setup...
mythicFOX
I started with the setup tmod describes. I'd also add a quick release coupling to the list, so you can detach from the air hose for cleaning more quickly. Also some sort of mask, inhaling paint isn't good for you. Bengt
You'd want some proper ventilation, preferably a fume hood. If you don't, any paint that doesn't hit a surface quickly will dry in the air and settle as dust all over the place.

steel762
A water trap and dual action brush is a must for what you are looking for. As for what company that is really up to how do you like to hold you brush.
