He only needs them for the Putrefy 0 action. Mah and Ophelia crews dont do much for Stuffed Pigs. They could potentially offset some crew attrition, though those crews tend to utilize more durable gremlins, where that is a bit less of an issue.

Putrefy comes up in about one third to half the games I play with Sammy, and even then the most piggies I have summoned is two.
