Blackopalypse's Crowded Corner

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

After being welcomed rather nicely and some amazing Insights I sat down and started to actually paint. right now I have the Scales of Justice on my Table but nothing to show so far.

I am not a great PAinter but getting to a point where I am reaching a Tabletop Standard I am satisfied with.

While I would love to get better I am really prone to procrastinating and getting Sidetracked. I love painted Miniatures and try to avoid playing with unpainted Stuff as much as possible, sadly this means I nearly never play anymore.

I would love to change that. To be honest I don`t particularly enjoy painting itself, but love the result.

Doesn`t help that my favorite Stystem is Warhammer Fantasy Battles which requires loads of Minis to paint. Recent Years I have spent with collecting Vintage Dwarves from the 80s and 90s, a collection close to my Heart.

I do play dozens of Systems as I am allways looking for shiny Stuff, that only grows the daunting Lead Pile...

Here are some of my painted Minis, no Malifaux so far but I hope to chage that in the coming months, if People are interested I could use this Corner to show anything I paint not only Malifaux.

Cheers T

Hi!  Mind if I follow along :)

I saw your beginner question post and I'm also deciding between Pandora and Lynch.  And I'm also in the middle of painting up some old GW dwarves for a buddy's bloodbowl team to brush up on my skills.  I'd say I love painting, and am working on getting to the point where I love the results lol.  I think your painting skills are pretty impressive!  Great use of highlights throughout and very solid details on each model - something I think that's easily skipped over in big squads like warhammer.  I'm very interested to see what else you put out (in Malifaux, or I'm always interested in seeing other interesting models)... and the approach you end up taking on your lynch crew if you go that route :)

Hiya and welcome! I think you are being very modest lol, those dwarves are pretty great...higher than table top standard if I'm any judge. I totally understand the being side tracked bit too, I'm guilty of that big time. Anyway I look forward to seeing your Malifaux painting

Thank you so much Guys fro your kind words. Glad you like them. Follow along Otylia, glad to have you aboard.

Yeah, I tend to be highly critical with my own Stuff, I live in an environment with amazing Painters which make syour own Stuff allways look a tad off. And yourself allways know how you wanted a model to look or what went wrong.

And I pretty much only can paint Short ,Bearded Stuff...anaything else get troubling.

The Scales are a good example. I have several coats on the Skin now and simply can`t get it right. But I am gonna keep it as it is now, not the easiest sculpt to paint and its getting only worse with each try. I will try to Hide  a lot under some Blood effect  <_<

At the same Time I thinks its god that I need to Paint Stuff outsiede my comfort Zone, thats the Best way of learning Things.

Still blocking colors in, you can see I am rather slow (Having the computer near doesn`t help) . I now think he looks better than I had feared before. I plan on using some Blood effec coming out from under the Blindfold and around the Nails in his Arms, that should allow me to hide some rough spots. I have no experience with them though so it could easily mean messing up the whole Thing.

I like the sculpt way more than the newer Plastic one, but at the same Time I should jhave probably started with the Judge as he looks easier (at least I hope). Still I think it will look cool on the Tabletop :).

PS: I read a Discussion about that in here today: I never mind Constructive Criticism in my Threads, if you show something you need to be ready for honest Feedback!

Thank you Dgraz, I am probably coming over harsher than I mean to be  :) . Great that you like them, my thanks!

I experimented with some Glazes around Nose and Lips and tried some Beard Stubble for the first Time, I think its a major improvement and I like the Face way more than before.

I tend to post a lot of WIPs, it kinda motivates me to keep going, let me know if its too much and you would rather see only finished Stuff.

Ya, I got my 2nd Crew yesterday and have working on it since then. I´ll be honest: Hasn`t been the easiest task, I went in thinking that afer 15 Years of assembling Plastics it would be the easiest thing ever, but man some of those pieces are really small and fiddly  . Messed up some areas and hope I can hide them with Stuffing and painting.

Interestingly I kinda hated Huggy in the Beginning, but I am really warming up to that Thing  :P and I am loving Graves. But I sadly have to say that I am dissapointed by Jacob himself, the Pose is cool but one to me really important Thing I miss is the "expression" in his Face, no emotion, nothing.

Its bland and he looks a tad like a Puppet. I would have loved an arrogant smirk or something like that. And I have no clue how I am going to Paint any Eyes on those minis, they are nearly no existent.

And its A LOT of Gap filling, I hate Gaps and never understand why People paint a Mini without trying to fill them, it pulls down the whole Paintjob.

But ist a lot of work and I am rather´bad with Green Stuff. I have started to use Nivea Creme to help me smoothen the Epoxy and it has been a great help, you can even use your fingers to smoothen Areas. I do have Liquid Green Stuff as well, but I hate the shrinkage and think that with deeper Gaps like on those Minis you need to start with the regular Putty first.

All in all I would say really  cool Models with amazing Poses, but the Details look soft/shallow and the Faces are a Letdown. I hope that I wil do a decent Job painting them.

This probably sounded more negative than its meant to be, I am looking forward to put them on the Table and don`t regret the Purchase.

Thank you Lucious :), It as a chore and I spent pretty much the whole Sunday filling them. The Nivea works perfect, use that Stuff Guys. The first Time I tried it and it makes live so easy, you can really work the GS into the Gaps and smoothen the Surface. Especially Huggy and the big Illuminated gain a lot by hiding the Gaps adn creating seamless connections.

(Just make sure to wash and scrub them in soapy water after a night of drying Time to loose any Residue)

The Bases are Micro Arts Copplestone Bases. Usually I make my own (boring Sand+Tufts) Bases but this Time I wanted to try some premade ones and I like them. I chose them primarily because they are rather cheap and most shops carry them:

PS:  I found that the Bases are a mm smaller in Diameter than the regular ones. And because of the way they are sculpted and how Big the Baseedge is, you will find that there is less room For a Mini than on regular lipped Bases from Wyrd. That sprimarily a concern with those 30mm ones. Will be hard to get Lynch AND the Skeletton on a single Base.
