  1. Update on my river project. I started with a pond as a test piece, and it turns out I dont need much resin depth, because dark paint below it can simulate depth in satisfactory way. Just need to go black in the centre. Also I bought HDF board which seems more resistant to distortions than plywood, at least so far. Will add some leafs on the surface and maybe some ripples, but overall I think it's safe to proceed to river.

  2. Maciej reporting in and... asking for help.

My original plan was to paint Tanuki, Grave Goo and Austera. I started with Tanukies and almost finished 2 of them, but then i decided to rest a bit from painting and make some terrain instead. After watching a beautiful Malifaux battle report on T&G YouTube channel I irresistibly desired a river.

    4.thumb.jpeg.dd0c9e0cea430c841721482d04d6e90a.jpeg

My first thought was that I want as few segments as possible to minimize no. of joint lines plus some additional pieces to give some shape flexibility.

I made some CAD drawings and ordered pieces to be laser cut from 3mm plywood (river bed and banks as separate pieces with intent to pour resin inside later).

Sadly 3mm board seems too thin for 12"  pieces and they came out slightly warped (as not level), which makes them a bit useless in current state. To save this project I will need either find a way to flatten them out, or to find a better material and just use them as a shape template. This is where I ask for advice. Do you good people know a way to:

    1. Flatten plywood boards (tried ironing so far, no effect)

    2. Recommend a material that would be flat, easy to cut and able to receive resin. Cardboard was my first idea, but I never used resin before and have no idea how it would react.

    3. Also 3mm banks feel a bit shallow for resin, but I really want to make the river as flat as possible so that models can be placed on the edges without risk of falling. What do you guys think about optimal depth (was thinking to just paint substrate brown and black towards centre to make it feel like it was deep.

    4. On a separate note I bought Woodland Scenic moulds to cast some rocks as alternative to ply river banks. My first attempt was with gypsum, but the moulds are much shallower than I expected and pieces break very easily. Would resin be only reasonable alternative of them, or are there other materials that could work and cure faster than resin?

    Any advice really really welcome!

  3. Hello fellow Bayou lovers ( or spies from other factions)!

Ulix was my first Malifaux master and still is one of my favourite. When choosing masters for a game I feel like my other favourite masters are much better suited to the scheme pool, whatever it looks like...

So I decided to go through the scheme pool and just try to analyse which ones are generally good for Ulix. I would really like your thoughts on the matter. To what games do you bring Ulix?

    1) Breakthrough. This one is great for pigs, because they are super fast and can leaves scheme markers upon death, so even if enemy tries to hunt down your backliners he still needs to spend activation to remove markers.

    2) Detonate chargers. This is doable but requires setting up your pig to die for Delicious Becon or good manouvering. Compared to crews with don't mind me or ability to drop markers to avoid 4" distance (Merris, Trixie, Brewie 2 or Zipp2) this is rather meh...

    3) Vendetta. Since we can't just take it on piglet and morph to warping it feels much less viable. First point should be easy to score, but surviving part is much more difficult since pigs hit hard, but also die easy. Notmally i would say this scheme is much better suited for ranged models like Rami.

    4) Assassinate. This should be ok in many scenarios. Pigs are fast, hit hard and have a lot of ping dmg from stampede, triggers and burning I Uilix 2. Also we have reasonable healing in crew so in most cases we should be able to keep Ulix alife.

    5) Claim Jump. Big no in my opinion. Feels like this scheme is for bubble crews and survivable models with Laugh Off or Planted Roots.

    6) Hidden Martyrs. Not sure about this one. Are replace shenanigans allowed? It doesn't have replace clause like Vendetta. I find this scheme often quite unreliable. First point easy to score, second much harder?

    7) Death Beds. It proved to be very risky choice for a crew that doesn't create any special markers. We can try killing around strategy markers or corpses, but generally feels meh.

😎8 Catch and Release. I guess it's ok, but much more reliable on crews that can isolate enemy targers (lures, pushes etc).

    9) Let them bleed. This feels quite good to score in many scenarios due to abundance of ping damage. But also easy to score against us, since we like to play Reckless!

    10) Outflank. Depends on enemy crew. Easy to score if we assume enemy won't take it himself. If he does then it gets much harder. But generally I would say it's good for us especially in corner deployment.

    11) Research Mission. Again only reliable for crews with marker creation (assuming we stay in keyword, I don't like to rely on single versitile or ook model like Mechanical Porkchop or Bushwacker)

    12) Spread Them Out. Probably one of the best schemes for pigs (but then again also for Zipp, and Mah)

    13) Bait and Switch. Another meh scheme for pigs. More suited for crews who can easily move enemies arond (again Zipp, Mah and Brewie)

    So to wrap up.

    Good schemes:

    1) Breakthrough

    2) Assassinate

    3) Hidden Martyrs

    4) Spread them Out

    OK/ situational schemes:

    1) Catch & Release

    2) Outflank

    3) Let Them Bleed

I hope your insight will broaden this pool, as it feels quite narrow.

  4. 9 spare soulstones sounds like a lot. I suppose you have wild boars which come with Ulix Core box? Maybe add one to the crew. They are good scheme runners thanks to unimpeded, and strong enough threat to fight weaker scheme runners. You can always grow it it to war pig turn one (if you have those) and murder some enemy models.

And if you decide to go for a lot of spare soulstones, which can be used by Ulix and major for protection, then probably  you don't need heeling from slop hauler. You could try Hog Whisperer instead. Tools for the Job is really useful ability - not only they can draw  you good cards, but ability to built in suits of discarded card makes them more reliable as pig summoners.

  5. I played a game with Zipp 2 yesterday and to my surprise I had more fun than with original Zipp.

Though I must admit he played much different than I had expected when I saw the card. I used his sword just few times just to impose [-] on enemy attacks. I fired the cannon just once or twice, because I was busy moving models around with full speed ahead. It was rather easy to land on enemies, because of a huge card advantage thanks to booty and plunder + card cycle with showboating. And 5" push ignoring models and terrain is priceless when you play corrupted lay lines and Bait & Switch.

Also new Zipp really allows Mancha Roja to shine, bcause that mean dude really is resource hungry. Almost every turn he needs to discard 2 cards for healing and flurry. With Zipp 1 that really hurt my hand.

I will definitely play him some more in near future.

  6. I wonder, can a moorwraith with Rolling Stones ability can count towards Research mission? In example if you have a friendly seeker model within 4" of a scheme marker, lamp marker and a moorwraith on enemy table half, can you score? I don't see why not, just want to be sure.

Rolling Stones: Other friendly seeker models may treat may treat this model as a Severe Impassable Terrain Marker, which can not be removed. Other models treat area within Aura 2" of this model as Severe.

  7. Hi Guys, I'm curious if Grave Goo has any synergy with Moorwraith in terms of making area around them or in base contact hazardous. I find it quite difficult to make sense how it would work...

Grave Goo Trail of Slime: Enemy models treat terrain in base contact with this model as Hazardous (Damage 1 and Poison +1).

Moor Wraith Rolling Stones: Other friendly Seeker models may treat this model as a Sever Impassable Terrain Marker, which cannot be removed. Other models treat area withing Aura 2 of this model as Severe.

So if Goo is in base contact with Moorwraith, will it make arera in B2B with it hazardous? Or in his Aura 2? Or it wouldn't have any effect because it is different terrain that he is in base contact with and what affects enemy models.

One critical thing with francois is that he can stone for crit strike, so he is consistently min 4 when he needs to be. If he is near a target and wants them to take 12 damage, he can make that happen pretty consistently.

It isn't uncommon to have him single activation Archie for example xD

And to do so he needs 3 soulstones, which makes him 12SS model :P

When compared to other killy models like Agent 46 and or Hinamatsu he doesn't feel OP.

And when compared to 1SS more expensive killers like Peacekeeper, the power spike is quite apparent.

the Ht stat doesn't prevent models moving through them. It only affects determinign LOS.

As far as I can see you can stand in a Lamp marker and it has no really affect. Its not climbable so you can't get on top of it, its not blocking or impassable so you can share the same space as the marker.

This makes sense, although feels odd. So 40/50mm model with Size 3 can stand on the marker and the marker is still visible, extending 1 inch above size 3 model :)

At least they don't block deployment.

  10. @muraki maybe there is one more thing you could clarify about lamps. It confuses me a bit that they have a height, but aren't blocking or impassable or climbable.

Having height means you can't move over them? They are not impassable, so you can stand on top, but they are not climbable, so you can't move vertically?

If Lamp Markers can effectively blok pathways, and are not destructible, taking 2 lamp lighters to a corner deployment can really hinder enemy's ability to leave their deployment zone!

  11. It always was my understanding that strategy markers can count toward this scheme.

Unless I am wrong with above assumption, don't you feel that this scheme is ridiculously easy to do with currently Strategy pool? Basically each start involves Strategy markers now. So all you need to do is to stand next to start marker, drop one scheme marker and one special.

If you have a model or a crew creating special markers there is almost no chane to deny it. I keep getting free points for it with bayou bushwackers.

Digging from the previous errata wishlist thread, the consensus was something like this:

Keywords most in need of buffs: Wizz-Bang, Tri-Chi

Models in need of buffs: Wong, Lightning Bugs, Wrastlers, McTavish, LaCroix Raiders, Burt

Models that could use buffs: Moon Shinobis, Banjonistas

Models that could use a downgrade: Rami, Bokor

I understand Rami, he is so good I often take him ook to games with vendetta. Also to me he is only reliable model for me to deal with armour. Somehow taking sparks ook or emissary hoping for high tomes does not work for me. In this regard would be sad to see nerf on him. Cost increase by 1ss would feel justified though.

As for Bokor could someone explain their op potential? Using one card with glowy token to cheat healing action and then discarding a card to draw two cards didn't look op for me on paper.

But I don't play Wong and suck with Zoraida, so didn't have opportunity to test them much.
