  5. Hi all having been finally reading ITS properly I have a few questions. The answers may be on the net somewhere but i have limited access currently. 1. How do illusionists cast spells? the text makes references to spells but they have no grimoire so aren't they just limited to their manifested powers from their pursuit talents? 2. the engineer can create and control constructs...but which constructs? the start with a mobile toolkit but i assumed it meant something better. The steamforged chapter clearly explains crafting and modding weapons and armour but not constructs. 3. When do you use the pneumatic skill. A few weapons list it, but beyond that i'm confused. Is it if you use a weapon in a pnematic arm - or is that still melee/heavy/ma/pugilism. It seems odd that a custom blade would use melee, but then on adding a pnematic component it would suddenly need a different skill. 4. Can anyone use a grimoire if they have the relevant skill, leaving this up to the GM. The book implies that anyone should be allowed access to magic. 5. How much do you get for selling goods? I'm seeing a situation where a starting player with rank 3 blacksmithing can make a lot of weapons and armour for 1/4 of the price with no roll, and then sell them for a profit (i would assume half listed price) and repeat this endlessly as their is no rule. Has anyone had this crafting issue and made a roll neccesary for all crafting. Or just handled it in story by rival manufactures/guild causing trouble. 6. Do pneumatics require artifacting to create and mod? thats all for now. really looking forward to Quarentine based on the standard of this book. thanks for replies.
  6. Thank that helps. Are there rules from stating npcs from scratch? I can't see any in books other than using a bestiary entry and adding pursuits from its. Have I missed this somewhere?
  7. I'm not sure how you can flat out say no, because they have unequal mechanics when playing using m2e skirmish rules is valid. And in those cases only a combat optimised pc has a chance. Your average starting pc may well have wk 4 cg 4 df4 wp2 ml 2 and rg 2. Up against npcs who are optimised for combat with positive aspects galore and key skills at 3 and 4. Convicts, mercs and gunsmiths are all low to mid point me models but would wreck a pc. And pcs only get a max of plus 7 to aspects if they take no manifested powers after all 5 destiny steps. Or I can look at it another way. I want to create an npc to be in my game as an adversary. I use the pc creation rules and throw in some extra pc. He gets wrecked by the gunsmith the pcs hire. How is even an optimised pc at max level meant to take on an arcanist operative? They have 52 points of skills. 15 points of aspects. And roll auto 8s. A combat pc might have great physical stats but then has 0 average on mental. And can is likely to onlybe getting plus 5s on a 13. Of which they have 1 in twist deck. I'm sure in a party of 4 with a social, combat, magic and rogue specialised characters increasing starting aspects is an issue. But throwing a few extra aspects at a solo or duo party will surely not break the game. Likewise, starting with extra skill points to round out the characters is needed when here are 60 odd skills and a pc may only start with about 10 if lucky.
  8. I'm about to start 2 new games with one and two players. I'm seriously considering giving a bunch if extra aspects and skills at start. Looking at the bestiary most humans even the miner and peons have better aspects than pcs with some commoners having more than 0 total in body and mind while heroes get zero in both plus 2 extra aspects. I'm thinking if allowing an extra 4-6 points and some Extra skills to beef up the parties. Will this cause any real problems?? Tfr
  9. while you are both correct in a normal game, if you use malifaux skirmish rules, not so much. And since my players like combat, yes they do need those skills. But to have to buy 3 skills to not have awful Defense, willpower and Wounds seems Harsh. Luckily this is all easily houseruled.
  10. Why are player aspects so bad? A starting player will have a net 0 on physical, 0 on mental and then an extra +2 for a net +2 on aspects. As you go through your destiny you can get +1 per stage. So a character who has finished their destiny could have +7 right? Yet a minion gunslinger has +4 P and +4 M for a +8 total. Better than any PC can ever have. A Harlot has -1 P but +6 M. The magistrate has -3 P but a massive + 10 M. Now PCs can have better skills, but if they are only on par with minion commoners stat-wise how are they expected to compete with any NPC at anything? On a similar note, why do PCs have to take evade, centering and toughness skills to avoid having terrible Df, Wp and Wd? It's basically a tax on new players.
  11. cool idea. cheers Found a generator in Ripper for Savage worlds. that looked useful. So what are the big factions that might actually hire players? I can think of Guild, M+SU and that's it. Are their noble familes or other big business or universities etc?
  12. I've avoided taking the leap on the books yet because i still don't get what PCs do. In say shadowrun there are clear missions and 5e has a random generator. D&D is always easy to just create a dungeon or encounters or sandbox. Leverage, Firefly and most savage worlds games have random adventure generators. Would it be possible to have such a thing for TTB? I know the GM is meant to use the fates but they dont always have enough to create a whole plot around. Failing random gen, what different things are PCs meant to do? There isnt enough world info to go exploring. There is a lack of monsters to go hunting. I'm left with solving basic crimes, which doesn't appeal to me or my players, or artifact hunts. Help!

  15. For a moment i missed that the two hiring upgrades were limited. I was dreaming of use all 4 riders just for the hell of it.
  16. Yeah, i made a mess of the mid game. I was so worried about molly summoning i moved up to her which let her summon! Ironic. Funny game in that a lot of big models didn't do much - Kang, Hanged, Izumo. But that phillip - between the molly obeys and Doxy pushes he managed to be very mobile and is so good at objectives. On the flip side - 8 points!! Seems a lot but definetly worth it with the correct schemes. Prob getting Nico's crew pretty soon. Have Seamus and Mac in metal already. Onyl want to get plastics now, but i bet Molly could be over a year away!
  17. Would have been a bit much if phillip won two games in a row on final flips!!! very tempted to try ressies afte seeing mollly and nico in action over last week. Thanks for game. Gutted to lose all 3 games but learned a few things. Had a great first game against Rob. Only lost it when Misaki was eaten by wendigo!!

  19. A lot of text refers to within. Now in the LOS section the within box says if the distance touches any part of another model's base. So within 6" implies 6" measured from model A to model B. But does within ignore LOS? there are a number of issues where this comes up and since it doesn't say pulse, aura or LOS we have assumed no LOS needed, but often it seems silly; Scheme markers not within 4"...but they are on opposite sides of a wall that cannot be climbed ...Friendly models with x"...but again there are walls in the way - how do they even know the model is there to get the benefit? It seems odd to get the benefits or penalties without LOS, but a lot of text just says within... Thanks in advance
