  1. I also did Biochemistry as an undergrad but drifted away to bioinformatics after I finished my degree. To be honest at this point I am not sure. While I was writing the thesis some interesting points did arise and at the time I was pretty excited to hear the ideas the examiners may have, but after submitting the thing and starting a new job I think I will just be glad it is all over. No idea what you mean with that "half-planned" experiments to get to the results you want
  2. Dedicated a bit of my time to Abuela. Can someone check spelling and grammar as I am not a native speaker? Need to polish some of the writing as well but probably won't have a chance to do anything until next week.
  3. Agree on Perdita I also felt that her (0) Hero's gamble was executed a bit strangely as it almost seems you always need to activate her first to get the benefits of it. While I normally found myself activating her later in the turn and just using the ability to replace the 2 or 3 low cards I am left in hand with
  4. I agree with you he still presented his way to approach a miniature but also emphasized that there are no right or wrongs things in miniatures painting, what matters is the final result and whether or not you are happy with it. Viva is schedule for Wed the 18th of June and I am a bioinformatician my particular thesis was on regulation mechanism mediated by small RNAs, mainly how can they auto-regulate themselves through cascades and networks. What do you do Mako I remember reading in your thread at some point you were also from a complete different field from the artistic mind you seem to have when painting
  5. Several but each individual student took different things from the class as he spent most of his time seating with individual student and go through our progress and areas that need improvement. The main topics he focused were lighting, colour choices and contrast and volume definition. I found especially useful is notes on lighting. He considers a miniature lighting in three steps, first you consider the figure the simplest object you can think of for example a cylinder and paint light dark according to how light would fall into the cylinder. The second step is to define each individual shape so for example the head can be a ball, the arms cylinders and so on and so forth so you can take your primary light definition and shade and highlight each individual piece while still respecting the primary lighting scheme. Finally come the definition by highlighting and shading creases on the clothes and so on. He also shown a few examples of pictures where the shadow of the illuminated part was used as the highlight of the shadow part just to show how much the surrounding area influences our colour perception. May need to try and grab those pictures to post here as I found them really helpful as your brain simply cannot cope with the colours levels in absolute terms. There is a good review of the class here: http://mrleespaintingemporium.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/primary-color-painting-experiment.html Rafa also gave me the same exercise of painting using only the three primary colours and black and white which I must say it was eye opening and recommend everyone to try it. He also told us to try and paint a miniature using only black and white which I am planning to go, just waiting for a bust I ordered to be delivered so I can start working on it.
  6. Thanks for creating this thread. I did work originally on Ryle, Hunter, Pistolero de Latigo and some other Guild construct I don't remember at the moment but if anyone has more stuff to add to them please go ahead. I was trying to follow the one model a day rule but I am quite busy at the moment. Will try and work on Abuela if no one has claimed her yet
  7. Actually I stole that receipe from someone else: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?239864-Death-Master-Snikch-Painting-tutorial-(Pic-Heavy) Have fun that page helped me load with whites, reds and leather
  8. Todays update comes in the form of the finished Lawyer, Guild Sergeant and Captain Dashell. They are just missing the final protective varnish layers and will hit the playing tables very soon. I have also started working on the Rifleman and in some Witchling stalkers. The first ones are only airbrush work at the moment while I managed to put some paint into the WS

  10. Gutted had to go with the better half to do some shopping and just got home to found out it is sold out
  11. Best Judge I have ever seen. I was still torn on the plastic one but after this I will have to change my mind
  12. I would take one step and ask how long have you been playing the game? Who do you normally play with and does someone else on your group play Kaeris. Watching someone else using your crew is the best way to understand other ways of playing the same game. Malifaux is also a bit tricky to get your head around at first as because of the low number of models mistakes can be devastating. I have to disagree on Sonnia playing burning better than Kaeris as well as Sonnia does not really rely on burning. It is good to have but not mandatory. Also check the thread on Kaeris by MythicFox some good advice in there
  13. Don't have the card with me but does Flame not goes away when you cast the spell again?
  14. I would vote for limited edition miniatures, terrain and other stuff you can use in game but aren't models and free entries for the next tournament. I do like free vouchers though but I feel a lot of the time I don't really have anything I want to spend them on. The mug you gave on Haul of eggs it is also my new favourite tea mug
  15. Hey Mike can you clarify whether you need just a 50SS crew painted or whether all the models you want to use on the event need to be painted?
  16. There are a few things in there that are out of date: namely totem dying when master dies, paralyzed refers duels can models to rally, (all) does this still exists and probably more?
  17. This is done but someone should short the name on that page to make it falls into the naming scheme of the other masters
  18. You were working on the same page at the same times so I copy your changes to mine modifications. Hopefully it still makes sense. I will fix the link on the first page as well
  19. Are you sure you have Perdita can't really find her anywhere as her page is empty on the wiki
  20. Done Hunter yesterday and the latigo pistolero today although I haven't used them in a while so as usual if someone can read it, correct spelling and hopefully improve something please go ahead. Also noticed Perdita is not done at all? Is anyone working on her?
