  1. Some pretty good points there and I suppose that's where I was coming from with making doors 'too big'. Most of my terrain would have doors too high and too large (then again, we can say that places like the train station are meant to have large, wide doors). When building terrain I think it is a point you need to consider, is it for looking real and right or is it for the way it interacts with the rules? I make some doors bigger just so that players KNOW if they fit or not and can plan tactics accordingly. So good points all round and depends entirely on how you want the piece to look and function. My personal preference is function when it comes to terrain for games.
  2. I make many of mine much larger to allow 40mm bases and some of the taller models through. I don't think I have ever build anything to a precise scale as it just doesn't work as well within the rules and with the models. Bigger is better as more models will be able to use it effectively, unless you are trying to trap 'them' on the outside!
  3. For size comparison... actually about right! On the bottom it has the brand 'Scientific Toys Inc I googled it and got a bunch of promising results but none were the exact set, I will continue to search
  4. Well, I hate this season Flu. Just can't seem to shake it off. Miserable germs. Anyway, excuses aside for being late to post I thought first up this time I would explore another take on scenery... BOUGHT stuff! Now, I have nothing against bought stuff and many people have said they don't have the skills, time or equipment to build their own stuff. So I set out to try and make an interesting table on a budget. Total cost of what is to follow? $30 Australian dollars and everything was bough brand new! An entire table for $30! And it only needed the most basic bashing to bring it up to speed using things anyone who paints and builds models should have. So onwards with... The Train Yards I was up at the shops with my kids walking through the toy department, inviting disaster, when I spotted some train sets. Most are too small but there was one set that looked to be G scale, although nothing was printed on the box. Don't know your scales? No problems if you know the rough size of you models. Now, granted, this is still a bit on the small side but it is pretty darn good. Ran it under the scanner to check the price... on sale for $18! SOLD! Now, being a nob end I forgot to take a photo of the box, but I got everything shown here in the set. Now, I based the telegraph poles and signs on some spare 30mm bases I had using superglue and sand. i also gave them a quick lick of paint and they came up pretty well. Honestly, next to no time and $18... looking good. Then I spotted a big bucket of farm animals (it was basically Buckt O Farm). It had fencing, greenery and animals in a big transparent tub for $12. Many of the animals were completely the wrong scale (like the giant mutant turkey that would be almost as big as teddy!) and got sacrificed to my children. Once again I mounted the greenery on some bases using sand and glue and ended up with some pretty darn good results! Ok, so the colours are garish but that is pretty easily fixed if I wanted to put in the effort. I played a game on a table set up very similar to this one the other night with Perdita vs Lilith and it was awesome! Small amounts of soft cover, signs and fences counted as hard, trains and wagons were blocking... it was just great! Now for the second set I recently made. Walls... no wait, towers... I mean fortifications... ??? So these are made out of 8mm MDF and I will be doing up a tutorial with plans for these shortly as I need MORE. You can see that each is made from a rectangle front plate and a small ledge at the top big enough to stand a 30mm base. The sides are wedge shaped and not only make the whole thing very stable but allow for a fairly effective looking battlement when placed together. But that is not all! If you turn them and place them back to back you get a watch tower. But hang on, if you then stand them in the right pattern you get a fort! Then you mix and match to make whatever you like! Here is one set up I had for a game of Through the Breech Once again, I love the ability to chop and change my scenery to make a new table every time I play. As you can see I chucked in stuff from the rail yards with the walls to make the TtB table. If you are a backer head over to the preview section for a bit of the story that goes with that lot Anyway, back to feeling sorry for myself with this flu. More on the walls to come soon! Promise.
  5. Looking great, really like the look of the finished product.
  6. Thanks for the renewed interest everyone, I will certainly get this back on track! I don't run at a club so have had to make all of my own gear for running events. I am mostly dedicated to a group of what I lovingly call 'garage gamers'. We are all a little older, grumpier and completely non-competitive. We did all that when we were young and had the energy. Good examples, Malifaux 2nd Ed... 90 minutes for a game? Nah, with all the chatting and laughter we have it takes all night (4+ hours...waaaaay to slow for most other gamers we have met). Having a guy sit across from me at a tournament, look at my crew that I had foolishly got out, watch him put his away and then custom build a counter crew that tabled me in turn 3 was kind of the last straw for me and a similar story we have all had. Just to lazy so we play casual extreme. So now I run leagues and painting comps for all the lads and lasses in the Armadale through Mandurah way and even remote 'report by post' for a few players in the South West country. Sometimes I will have a GAMES DAY where I have three or four tables running all at the same time! Although nothing has been happening of late as we wait for M2e and bash Through the Breech RPG in the playtest. But, anyway, life story over... over the weekends I shall unveil the great train yard! I am running a through the breech massive battle on it tonight and will be sure to take photos.
  7. The 'easy to work with' I was personally referring to with plastics was in regards to conversions. I used to like making small changes to some models and even completely kit bash new ones, where plastic is king.
  8. My heart says metal... I just like it. My brain says plastic, as it is easier to work with in most cases. Still, I do like the weight of metal and the point about stripping and cleaning. I have bought a few second hand miniature only because they were metal and after a quick bath in acetone they were like new. Plastics? Not so much...
  9. Apart from that one bit in the fluff where one marshal goes all "flame ON! Now I am scary" I just never saw the death marshals as walking night lights. They have always been described as almost looking undead themselves. It is a personal preference so I like that there is a choice.
  10. They come with normal heads? See this information would be handy as all of the players in my area have said they hated the flaming skull heads. Hooking ghost rider wannabes up with Tara makes sense, but normally not a real popular choice in my neck of the woods. Seeing as nobody planned to buy them we wouldn't have had anyone local open up a box and say "oh, by the way guys... Marshals have extra heads". A little advertising, even here on the forums, would go a looooooooong way.
  11. Miss You - alternate rotten belle, valentine style Miss Dout - not sure, any Malifaux models you always thought were lacking compared to their friends?
  12. Without any NDA breaking information the main book of Through the Breech currently has quite an expansive history leading up to the first breech, the closure and events all around. There are around 20 pages detailing this before it goes 'through the breech' and describes Malifaux in detail (the city itself, districts, slums, places of interest...). It still focuses on Malifaux mainly, for obvious reasons, but it certainly has more information than we have previously had as well as compiling the snippets mentioned and scattered across the books. It certainly is shaping up to be a huge amount of fun! edit. while I like the idea of earth side games as much as the next guy earth side games would be rather mundane compared to Malifaux. Average people only gain 'powers' when they cross the breech and without soul stones would not be able to use them earth side. it could be done, just not sure how it would compare... May end up being Malifaux lite, all guns and no zombie hookers!
  13. I have already made most of the assets I need in photoshop (well, outcast and Ortega guild), so now it is a case of dumping it in the video programme. Sure, it is a lot of work, but it is kind of fun too. Now to just get a truly epic game worth reporting... First one will probably be using 1.5e as 2 is still beta (well, post beta).
  14. I am playing with the idea of doing some battle reports in an old school RPG computer game style, with dramatic cut scenes for duels (aka Shining Force... oh yeh, show my age). Here are some mock ups I have done for now, just for fun. Backgrounds will end up being animated and maybe some basic visual effects. There will also be a map view that I am still playing with... anyway... I know the bases stand out, but I think it adds flavour to each individual crew and will make them more easily distinguishable.
  15. Due to mixed feelings in the group I play with I will happily play both until such time, if ever, everyone comes around. The main 'eh..whatever' factor for most at the moment are the fact that the rules (beta) were always changing (yeh I know, beta, but they couldn't be bothered learning and unlearning stuff all over the place) and the fact that many models and crews are not yet supported. Both of these facts will change with time and more of the players will come around, but I will always play what ever version of Malifaux my opponent is loving.
  16. Utterly awesome! *tips hat* thanks for sharing.
  17. Wow, came in late on this one but there is some fantastic work here. Great stuff!
  18. Here was what I did. The chips are counters from an educational suppler I found online (and kind of local). If you go for this try to get the ones with the rippled edge Hungry was my first experimental one and I am going to re-base him once the rest of the crew is done. Kind of obsessing with Leveticus at the moment though...
  19. Although in M2E isn't Kaeris now a master?
  20. I will also vouch for combat company. I have spent ludicrous amounts with them and always get prompt delivery as well as easy and friendly solutions to any issues I have had (and there have been very few and minor at that). My last order for a bunch of old boxed sets that I always wanted (yes the new ones are looking great but some of these are ones I fell in love with way back and just never got to) was posted at 8:03 am the day after I ordered them... And the order was placed at about midnight.
  21. Yeh, but I am also a bit of a collector (hence to many models). I would rather have the 'right' one.
  22. I really hope this is not the case. Missing out of a few models 'just because they are in the new boxes' will be a downer. I imagine a VonSchill totem would have quite a bit of demand and will be hard to source as a clipped off Bit. I don't have the cash or the drive to repurchase entire boxes for individual models. I am keen for M2E but there are some points causing anxiety. Minor anxiety (like, maybe just enough to give one very small ant a twitch), but anxiety all the same. *grin*
  23. So I have heard a rumour that some of the henchmen that are getting bumped up to master status are getting new totems. So far I have heard that new totems will be included in the box with said master. Are there plans to release these separately? specifically I have heard that VonSchill is getting a steam tank luggage (pinch of salt?). I already have a freikorps crew I love, but will I have to buy the whole new set just to get the totem? thanks in advance to anyone who knows.
