Very good paint job. THe magical illumination hitting the upper reaches of the feathers and then casting shadows into the underside is very well done. It just needs more darkness to then follow down to the base of the legs and the floor.

In love with all the fine detail work on the cloths, potions and jewellry.

The shadow is great but the piece really needs some manner of light source to be casting it.

I love the illumination on this. Not sure I understand what is going on with the base though. I like the green glow on the underside of the rocks but the green disc at the bottom feels unfinished.

The OSL is down, the base and face could use a bit of work though to bring them up to the same standard.

Definitely one to look at for anyone who entered and is looking to brush up on some of their own skills. The shadows on this are just amazing. The reflection on his goggles is great.

I do like how the skull came out.

the illumination from the hogs fire could have definitely done to be a bit brighter.

As someone who has painted this model I really love the work you did into giving her the facial lines and sculpting the extra nightmare teeth and eyes into her base effect.

The Blue OSL is amazing, especially how it subtly hits the engine and the ground. Some great deep shadows, not personally a fan of how the smoke is illuminating itself.

In addition to the lights I really like the darkness in the cloak and beneath her hood and robes.

Not much I can say that hasnt already been covered. The Shadow is much too bright..

The subtly ceondary lighting on his shoulder brand is a nice touch and the glow of the staff trails off wonderfully on the ground by his foot.

I really like this piece. The colour pallet of red and pale green is just really atmospheric, the light catching on the topp of the phonebox is great, ths shadow it casts is beautiful... Only real flaw is that there is snowfall in the middle of some of your chosen light effects that is still completely white.

Great use of the chosen models. Love the NMM on the Hunter but in the context of this specific contest I feel that is actually backfiring on you. As amazing as the Watchers paintjob is I don't see what light is falling on it to cast those metallic reflections. That aside though this is an absolutely stunning piece and the OSL from the lamp is absolutely wonderful.

I like what I can see but a few of the shots (especially the one of the face) could have done with a higher resolution to better appreciate the work that ahs been put in.

Very creative piece, though a little too minamilist for me compared to the other dioramas in this category. Still, the OSL is still worthy of yhe overachiever title.

Love this piece, the bullet and blood, the burst of light from the muzzle flash. It is very much a shame that this category has som many high quality paint jobs cause its ahrd to give all of these the recognition they deserve, even with 3 votes.

Brilliant use of the chosen model. This sort of scene is exactly what I expected we'd see when the theme of the contest was announced. Only real problem is that the front of the model is well illuminated but there are no visible light sources except for those behind it.

Took me a second to clock the extent of the OSL in this piece due to how subdued it is but after a closer look I really came around to what you have done and this is easily my favourite piece in the competition. Even now I'm only just noticing little details like the stone Kodama.

Really beautiful piece. Shows a real mastery of not just the OSL technique but a variety of other high end painting techniquesd too.

    CITY 9

Some great thought has gone into this. It's a novel piece, conceptually stands out amidst the rest of the category and plays a lot harder on the concept of shadow than of light. As others have said though it needs a little more technical work to push it to the next level.

Genuinely cannoy tell if the shadow is painted or a result of an actual light source. It is that well painted. The fine detail on the book and the great quality across the whole scene is brilliant.

Everything about this is beautiful. Only real complaint is that I feel the light should be much brighter around the neon signs. On the whole though this is superb.
  25. I know the theme is "relax" this month but I guess Wobbly and I didn't get the memo! Have been on a bit of a painting burst. Ended up doing the entire NB starter set and most of my unpainted nightmares. With the exception of the 3rd bearly together (and a 4th Teddy) this is the nightmare keyword compelted for me, at least until I decided to update my 1E metals for Daydreams, Alps, Coppelius, Dreamer and Chompy...
