  1. I am going to be running a Malifaux 2E Game Day at The Complex in Pine Point Maine, Feb 28th 1pm - 10pm.

I will be meeting with many of the members of the gaming club Spectre Studios, who have been digging into Malifaux. They've done some M2E Starter Box videos and are looking to get more into the game of Malifaux. I'll be there for demos for ANYONE who wants to give the game a try. It will be a very open, and welcoming event. Even if you want to just come by to ask questions about the game and don't have time for a demo, come by and we'll help answer them. Plus you'll get to see a great array of painted models.

I'll be bringing enough stuff for new players to play the game. And will bring extra models for anyone who would like to borrow stuff from a different faction to try out. Please let me know if you are interested, or just show-up (Walk-Ins obviously welcomed!). If you have questions let me know.

  2. @Shadowopal this is fantastic news. Something, I know many attendees (and organizers) have been pushing for years to have happen. This is indeed big news, and exciting for both Adepticon, Malifaux-players, and of course Wyrd. I'll be bringing my wallet (and some spare bag space). Guess what happens to be that same weekend?!!! Wyrds Annual Easter sale (I am assuming here, no quoting me on this, total speculation), which means maybe just maybe we can get stuff on site from the sale!?

Either way, this is great news. Will be nice to 'send people' to the Wyrd booth after they see the great game in person (or get a demo)!

  3. Dang, these are amazing. Turtle looks like he could be a 10T, he looks like Oogway from Kung Fu Panda 3 (just saw it with my 4yr old), special alt version of something big in 10T....need to go look in book. Oogway is in the spirit world, hes gotta be a spirit or something completely new. The hare, hmm need to ponder on this more!

  4. I'll get this added to the New England/NY/NJ events calendar. How many players can you support?

At CaptainCon this past weekend, people were asking if there were any Malifaux big events coming up in CT, as its a good middle spot. Besides BraggingRights later in year, this will be a good event. Let's start spreading the word!

  5. Thanks to all who attended. It was a fantastic event. Kevin, Manny, Ian, and Brad all did a fantastic job TO-ing. Thanks for Mike Smith and Matt Perry, and all the others who helped prepare terrain! I don't have the results from all of the other events ran, but they were very well attended and I was happy to see the Malifaux attendance grow even bigger than years past!

The farewell to Gaining Grounds 2015 saw 34 players on Saturday, and the top 8 competing in a single elimination on Sunday.  Results below (some of the Faction listings are wrong, for example I played NB). A lot of new blood from the old WHFB group showed up in force and the top 4 Sunday were all ETC WHFB guys so just shows they're presence can't be ignored at Malifaux events going forward, great / professional competitors all of them!

Congratulations to Matt Cassidy who won both Saturday and Sunday's event, confirming he truly was the 'best' of the weekend and wins the first Golden Ticket (Gracie) to the NoVA Open National Malifaux Tournament.  If you want to track down more photos checkout #CaptainCon on Twitter.

    Bracket's Sunday were:

    Round 1

    1. Matt v. Rhys @rhysmcdo
    2. Alex v. James
    3. Blaine @Aluwin @ v. Arash @Arash_Suri
    4. Travis v. Adam H. @PeregrineFalcon

    Round 2

    1. Matt v. Travis
    2. Arash v. Alex

    Round 3

    1. Matt v. Arash

    And here are Saturdays, results....

All participants Sunday received a pint glass for qualifying.

I have a bit of feedback on a couple of the schemes now that I've played a few games with them, if it helps at all:

The schemes that require things to be placed X inches away from the centreline tend to be weaker in corner or flank deployment, by large degrees. The area in which models/markers can be placed, and the length of the line that they have to pass to get there, are both considerably smaller when the mid-line is diagonal. This was already the case in the old schemes for Breakthrough, which became a poor choice in a corner deployment due to the smaller area that was valid for planting markers, but there are schemes now that require models to be at least 10" away from the centreline.

In Standard and Close deployment, this leaves them with a sizable area of 288 square inches, with a 36" face that doesn't diminish as it goes further into enemy territory. In Flank or Corner, the valid area of the table goes down significantly to about 239 square inches, and the face of this area starts at just under 31" and gets narrower as it approaches the "back" of the table.

In effect, schemes like this change their value greatly based on whether the mid-line is diagonal or not, to the point where some of them are extremely difficult to achieve in diagonal deployment with a crew that might manage them fine in standard or close.

Of course, there will always be other schemes to do, and Convict Labour is easier in a diagonal deployment due to the wider mid-line, which does compensate a little, but it feels like the difference in size of valid scheming areas for this style of scheme in diagonal vs straight deployments does change their value by a substantial amount.

This isn't a "these schemes are too hard" post, btw, simply feedback that I hope is constructive. Loving having new ways to play with my toys so far!

I've noticed this as well, been playing a few games on corner/flank with these, and you're very right, you just summarized it really well. As you say its a nice challenge and sure is something to help explain to new (and old) players who are looking/learning about these new Schemes.

Another observation is that while the game is all about pre-measuring there is now a little more element of eye-balling and estimating if you're close enough in Turn1/Turn2 to get your scheme markers down for placement without showing your hand.

I played with a Zoraida crew last night against Levi, I managed to paralyze Rusty Alyce using a nurse and voodoo doll (whilst giving both the doll and allyce burning 2 and poison 3!), then used the Doppleganger to mimic rusty's clockwork pistol. Shot the waif next to Rusty killing it with the trigger, shot an abomination, getting a bit too close, killing it then put enough damage on Rusty that the 6 damage she got at the end of the turn killed her!

    Gotta Love them Neverborn Shenanigans!

    Doppleganger Mimic can't declare triggers

  8. Rules pack has been made available for GG on Sat and can be found here. Most important parts are the list of strategies/deployments and schedule. The rest is boilerplate stuff. You should have received an email from the TO (@Drool_bucket). There are 36 pre-reg and a few left so please pull in a few of your friends to make this the biggest Malifaux event in New England.

See you all Fri - Sun!

If rolling with Pandora and I need more actions I will mimic magical extension off the poltergeist,  enabling me to cast one of Pandora's actions, :-P usually my doppelganger has retrobutions eye,  so a doppelganger casting self harm/ loathing is fun having the damage ignore armour even better

I much prefer just using a Widow Weaver and her armor ignoring attack for this and having Dopple copy it. But your way works too.

  10. I enjoy Coryphee, they're strong and some of the most fun models to play in the game. With Collodi I've also really enjoyed some Illuminated as they can really benefit from his My Will action. Last but not least in the none minion camp, I've always found Envy and Lazarus as good dmg dealers.

P.S. A lot of people also make use of Trappers (yes I'm guilty of this shenaniganary).....with 3 changelings /hangsheadinshame

    • (1) Focus
    • (0) Trapper Shot (28") from mimic trigger
    • (1) Trapper Shot

Or hire Envy and do his (0) to have her take the Focus action on his turn. She activates and gets 3 shots, two of which are focused.
