  1. So I have been away from Malifaux for a while and thinking of getting back into it. Leve has always been a favourite of mine but how does he play now? I also like the constructs and undead models so again Leve has synergy with both of those, and this allows me to expand my crew/master choice whilst keeping models usable between factions. I could get his basic crew box but what would be the best purchases from there on in?
  2. After a break from Malifaux, I am thinking of picking it up again. The new Hoffman crew looks great and the idea of his crew has always intrigued me. Also, I like playing Leveticus so there is some cross-over there in terms of models. How does Hoffman play though on the table? I have been researching but would like to hear from actual people rather than just theoryfaux. Apart from his core crew box, what would be the best things to get in terms of expanding his crew? What are the things to watch for when playing with Hoffman?
  3. I don't see what is wrong with daring to speak about things not being 100% perfect. Yes, its the same story with other companies and such but does that mean we can't at least talk about it. As OB said, why re-release "old model" when newer models are still waiting.... is it better to have multiple Somer's out with no Brewmaster, or release a Brewmaster crew so that he can be played legit and have others who probably already have Somer crews continue.... Just seems when you dare say anything slightly negative you just get bashed down.
  4. Liking models is subjective. I am not a fan of the Molly model myself but if others are then no issue with that either. But currently I am stuck. Whilst I could buy metal Molly I don't really want to spend money on models I don't really like even if I like her playstyle and rules. I could get proxies and actually quite enjoy converting and such but I also know players sometimes dislike proxies as its harder to tell what is what. As for the rules just being released, Wave 2 rules have been out for quite a while as downloads. I doubt anything seriously changed significantly in the book - its got more fluff, more shiny pictures, etc. That slows the book publication down but not the release of the rules themselves. It's been said by Wyrd before (or by others) that they have had production problems with their suppliers. But if they are still using those same suppliers then they are going to continue having production problems most likely. There also seems to be no pattern to the releases. I don't expect everything to be released at once but it surely can be quicker than it is currently. Play testing is done, art work for the most part is done and as such the renders are done; they are not coming up with an idea from blank. And as for comparing to GW... GW is worse in many cases.... hence I didn't make a direct comparison but other companies seem to release more planned or faster. Leve's artwork has been out since Book 1 was released and yet we are still waiting for his crew and surely he is one of the more popular masters. I think they should have focused on releasing the "old" original masters and crews first as these are the models that people are most familiar with and already play. Instead it feels like they release the ones that are flavour of the month or such. I know I am not alone on thinking this despite the feedback on here, and whilst I love Malifaux that does not mean I can't level some criticism at it. As said above, some models are really hard to get or subsequently expensive, hence making their purchase unlikely. It would make sense to release basic crew and master box sets and then the odd blister to boost said boxsets. It's great releasing blisters but they do not make a crew...
  5. I don't buy this.... I am not interested in ALL the models... so whilst they may release model X if that's not one I want then I am left waiting more... they could release models from each faction instead of focusing on one. I don't see over-saturation as a problem.... "oh no.... my model has been released" I can cope with that rather than the opposite. I don't HAVE to buy it immediately but if it's there then at least purchasing it is an option. It's not as if they don't know what the models are like as most have had the art work released. Other companies manage releases better I feel, but I also understand that modellers / gamers are insatiable. If I want to play Molly then I need her crew - its that simple. It just appears that production has stopped or slowed to a crawl which leaves me wondering exactly when will I be able to play my crew legitimately physically rather than on Vassal. With so many models in the Malifaux line I doubt that they will be able to keep up the production to the level that satisfies their customers so that people can play the crews they want. This will causes people to leave or not even start the game.
  6. Is there an up to date release schedule anywhere? I am still waiting for Leveticus and Molly crews to be released and I wonder if at the rate Wyrd are releasing stuff, whether its a case of using my pension money to buy them... But seriously I know people who I have got interested in the game and they get all excited about the great new models and such but then those same players get frustrated when they realise that there is no release schedule planned and that they are waiting an unknown length of time for models... the old metal ones are not the same quality and so they don't want to pick those up. Those eager new players soon give up and find some new game to play. A real shame as Malifaux is great and different to other systems. Has Wyrd got a plan in its head of what is released and when? Is it a case of getting too big too soon with too many ideas that realistically they are never going to keep up with rules vs models. I could use proxies but then why should I? I could use old models but as the others said they are not the same. Is there light at the end of the tunnel?
  7. I am assuming you push him out of melee engagement so that he can charge again. I am looking for a way rebury him so that I can rinse and repeat the Bete-Killjoy tagteam. I am hoping that the Necrotic Preparations upgrade for Ressers gets the "damage on disengaging strikes" as well as the damage if hit in melee. That is so nasty with Killjoy. But I am always concerned that it's a lot of points in one place that can be avoided and does not necessarily help achieve the VP's to win. Decaying Aura I think becomes almost an auto-include for killjoy types who are designed to slay as much as possible. Decaying Aura removes leaders' best defence (healing and SS use).
  8. Still say expanding the University of Transmortis is the way to go. Arcanist/Resser sounds so good.
  9. Killjoy and Molly is a great combo. Avatar removes the mercenary cost and is pretty useful. Could do the double dip summon with Killjoy and Bete Noir.... nasty - give them Decaying Aura and Unnerving Aura for more nastiness. Costly but effective.
  10. Put it here as its not just Ressers. But the Decaying Aura upgrade says it prevents healing. So how does it interact with the following: Kaeris Avatar minfestation event says "heal all damage". So Kaeris gets HtK meaning she cannot be killed in one hit. But then the player activates Desperate manifestation. Normally Kaeris would come back at full health, but am I right that if within the range of Decaying Aura, then Kaeris does not heal anything and would remain on 1 wound. Does tthis affect Leveticus in a similar way, or is his healing ok due to being buried. Would this also prevent healing from Regeneration, Embalmed, or other similar effects? Thinking also of where burning or poison causes healing instead of damage. I assume also, that if an ability/upgrade converted condition damage into healing that the Decaying aura would simply negate the healing so effectively the condition does nothing. Not that the condition reverts back to causing damage. What about where there is a ranged heal from outside the aura against a model within the aura. Does that also get negated?
  11. No.... but my fate deck is my opponent.... forget the enemy crew!
  12. Looks it, but in reality its rather easy. Killjoy and Bete are both buried at the start so no issues there. Necrotic machine you can either hire and kill off to resummons or buy another totem and then summon the Necrotic machine into position. The only real set up needed is summoning the machine into where you want it. Everything else happens automatically following the death of the machine.
  13. I was thinking of using it for my Molly crew personally. Most things have BB or can be given/gain BB. Molly's avatar allows you to hire Killjoy normally so you save 1ss. You could then purchase the Necrotic Preparations upgrade for that 1ss. From the last update I saw this adds further nastiness. Bury Killjoy as normal. Molly can summon her Necrotic Machine within 10" relatively easily on a 6 . You could use this 2 ways. 1) summon it outside of 3" of models so that it suffers full wounds and dies immediately once summoned. This allows you to unbury Killjoy within 3" so that he can charge. With BB and Necrotic Prep this means that the enemy would suffer 2 damage if they wound Killjoy with a MI attack. Last version of NP also effectively gave Wicked (damage on disengaging strikes). So you are stuck...... do you sit and face Killjoy's attacks; do you try and disengage and get damaged, possibly dragged back into melee anyway; do you fight back and take damage.... 2) Summon within 3" of a model so that the necrotic machine comes in at a small amount of wounds. It can give whoever you want to attack black blood. Then get the necrotic machine killed, unbury Killjoy and attack the model with Black-blood. Killjoy is immune but everything around is now taking damage. And you are stuck with the scenario above. Adding Poison and Black blood into that mix just makes it even worse. Again summon the necrotic machine behind Killjoy and get it to poison Killjoy. Even more fun for the ultimate death squad, you hire Bete Noir as well with Decaying Aura and unbury her nearby so that enemy cant use SS within 4" and no healing. Could give Bete Noir black blood as well and then follow up with poisoning her though she has no healing herself so more risky. DOOM!!!!
  14. Should be easy "yes" or "no". When a model suffers poison (burning or such for that matter) then does this also trigger Black Blood (or any other similar "on damage" condition)? If a model is killed by such, then does it count as being killed by that model that suffered the Poison damage. I am thinking of giving Killjoy poison so that he can cause even more damage. His self-healing would mitigate the poison damage in theory when he activates. But I guess this would work with any model with Black Blood.
  15. Where has this gone? There was a post where the upgrades were being discussed but now seems to have been pulled..... Can't download any upgrade updates either. I thought Justin wanted us testing and focusing on them.... I saw that Necrotic Preparations had been altered so that it now costed 1ss but gave damage on disengaging strikes. However, I cannot find that to download anywhere... Can anyone help clarify this and what to use?
  16. Anyone know if there is a Von Schill tactica anywhere? My mate has him and looking for hints and tips for him to use. He is new to Malifaux and the whole system.
  17. Only gripe about Wyrd... miniature release is slow..... I'm proxying most models as playing with the models that are released (plastic ones that is) would really limit your crew. Some metal models I am not a fan of and I don't want to buy models I do not like just to play with the "proper model". Bushido are good for 10T. Maybe Helldorado Immortals.

  19. Totally elitist but was interesting to play. Molly [6ss] Avatar Tear of the Gorgon Forgotten Life (Horror one...) Killjoy [12ss] Datsue-Ba [9ss] Spirit Whispers (for summoning Sheishin for healing and activations) Bete Noit [10ss] Decaying Aura Necrotic Machine (got to be there really....) [3ss] ss costs might be slightly out... Only deployed 3 models (guess which...). Strategy was Reckoning. But having Bete AND Killjoy appear was evil (for my opponent at least) Maybe giving Killjoy the new upgrade would be more evil.... they hit him with a melee attack and they suffer 2 damage. I heal myself.... mwahahaha.
  20. http://www.beastsofwar.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Cowgirls.jpg one of these? possibly convert the arm to a claw using a genestealer claw? Tara is just an undead cowgirl really.
  21. Excellent suggestions and summary! Malifaux is more scenery-dependent than other games and the placement, types and quantity of terrain can be game changing. Really important to get it right.
  22. Distract is a pain and in itself can cause major shifts in the game play. You can use a cheap 4ss model to effectively take out a much more expensive model for 1AP. Distract encourages the mass of cheap minions vs elites - but then I guess if you know you are taking Distract then you tailor your crew for that. Killing your own models is really only an option if you have a summoner master. Otherwise you end up just gimping yourself. Just feels the Distract has a bigger impact on the game than other schemes and winning comes down to the number models on the table rather than any gameplay.
  23. Reducing her Wk by 1 would have taken account of the aura effect as she would get the +1 Wk back anyway. Giving her belle would mean that she would get the black blood from Molly within 6". The Seamus summoning is an easy fix to. On another note... can Molly use Nix? Is there any synergy? Nix is a great model and "evil spirit doggie" would be great for her non-mechanical pet.
  24. Suppose there is Toshiro as well, but again nothing he adds to Molly that he doesn't elsewhere. Yin same as. Izamu would be interesting but another beat-stick option. Molly's upgrades are pretty sweet.... she is a strong choice for sure. Her or Datsue-Ba..... hmmmmm.
  25. Ah yes. Forgot them. He is pretty scheme and strategy dependent (though this could be said for lots of stuff). I can see how he could be useful in some games, but does he synergise with Molly in any particular way compared to other masters?
