Taking breaks is good. I took one for about an hour, had a beer & some food and was in a good mood and ready to paint again.

Mind, I like it, but tonight I sat down with Goal: Finish Sonnia in my mind (didn't seem like it would take that long; she was almost fully basecoated). I painted for three hours, and at the end, when it became clear I wouldn't finish her tonight, painting ceased to be fun and just became stressful (plus; eyes. $$$$$$$$ eyes). I guess I just need to be more flexible (and realistic) in my day to day painting goals. I'm trying to paint as quickly as I can, because I have a mountain of metal. Anyone else find painting sometimes stressful? Any tips on keeping it cool?

I've noticed that the PDFs of the new stat cards don't contain cards for every model in each faction. Is this because not all of the models' cards were changed from the first book? I ask as a new player to the game who's trying to learn the ins and outs of each faction--I don't want to be reading an outdated stat card! Thanks.

I had a great time in my one game. It was nice to win after getting stomped by Von Schill twice in a row in my last two games--though I enjoyed playing with Ben either way. I feel like I'm finally starting to get the hang of my crew. A few more games and it'll be time to try out Lady J or Perdita, I think.

Thanks for organizing the tourney, Gary. Next time I'll stay for it all! It was nice to get a solid win for the first time after really knowing my models--though playing w/ Ben was fun regardless. Maybe a couple more games and it'll be time to break out Lady J or Perdita...

That's lucky, because I just picked up a Governor's Proxy on a whim. I'll have to give it a shot with her.

The only thing I can think of that I've done that's not strictly by the book is to alternate terrain placement until one player passes, then the last player gets to place another piece of terrain. I don't know if I'd call it a "house rule", though, it's really just a method of agreeing on terrain. Also, on the pass thing: I don't get it. How would passing help a small crew? If I'm understanding passing, it's just forfeiting an action, right?

Looking forward to this. I may only be able to make one game, but I'll at least be there for that. Genetic: you told me on Wednesday that the games will be 75 min, was that wrong or is 85 min. up there a typo? Bigglesworth: yes, Sonnia (at least when she's piloted by me) has a hard time with Freikorps!

I musta missed this conversation. I definitely like the idea, but it seems like something might break if you give a group of models a characteristic they don't have.

Yeah. That's a comforting answer for my ego ( ;p ), but my hope for Malifaux is that it's a game that's relatively balanced, and even if there's a "bad" matchup, I can win if I outplay my opponent. That said, I firmly believe that Nathan outplayed me tonight. I'm not keen to do Von Schill vs. Sonnia anytime soon, but once I have a handle on the game and have gained some skill, I'd like to go at it again.

I played Sonnia (and the game) for my 3rd time tonight; 1st time with Purifying Flame. This is only anecdotal evidence from one game, but I was kind of disappointed in its performance. It's Ca is pretty low for most of Sonnia's spells. I want to keep trying to use it and see if it's worth anything (plus I love the paint job I did on it).

I played Nathan again (my Sonnia against his Von Schill crew), and again got owned, 6-1. Whew! I'm gonna have to show up to the tournament, because I need to get my skills up to snuff. I want to play against some Arcanists!

This doesn't have anything to do with the minis/game, but it does have to do with Wyrd's expansion, and I'm sure they've thought of it: release novels.

I think this could potentially make games stretch on too long. You get once chance to cheat, your opponent does, and bam, duel's over.

Good to know I probably won't play Perdita for a little while; I'm new to the game and am going to focus on Sonnia for a while, then I also have a Lady J box. I just got an influx of gaming cash and couldn't resist spending it on Malifaux. I do plan on picking up the Nephilim & Scales of Justice eventually.

I pulled a left turn and decided to not get Lucius quite yet, and instead round out my collection of 1st book Guild Crews. I bought: -Perdita box (individually, b/c I already have Nino) -Abuela (gotta have all the family, right?) -Executioner -Governor's Proxy (not sure how great it is but I want to try it out) My FLGS has a 20% off minis coupon for this month (look in the Mercury, Portlanders), so I got all that for just shy of 50 bones.

I think I'm going to go with: -Lucius box -Executioner -Gov's Proxy I've heard Gov's Proxy is good. I might've gone with the Scales of Justice in its place, but my FLGS is out of that at the moment, I believe.

So, I have: Sonnia box Lady J box Purifying Flame Nino 3x extra Witchlings I have about $50 to spend, and I'm thinking of getting a Lucius box (because he looks so damn cool) and an Executioner. Are these decent choices, meaning, will they go well with what I have, or will I have to buy more to further bolster, say, a Lucius box? Alternatively, I've been thinking of picking up the rest of the Guild totems, because it seems like it might be good to have them all. Any comments on this are much appreciated. Thanks!

eh, I spoke too soon anyway. Looks like I won't be able to play tomorrow. I'll definitely see you all on Wednesday. Saturday, too, but if I don't have time to play I'll just drop my $5 so I can buy a bunch of stuff at 20% off.

I'll be at Red Castle on wednesday, but I could totally catch a game tomorrow around 5 @ RC or Guardian, if anyone's free.

I was looking on Red Castle's website & it says that on Malifaux nights Wyrd product is 20% off. Is this true? I only question it because it also says that the league costs $5 but I haven't paid any time I've been there to play.
