I have to say I dont agree with the idea. first, because it very obviously favours high model count crews, and secondly because the only time I could see it being necessary is in very low time limit tournaments. if you have 100+ minutes to finish a game, generally its enough to bring the game to a conclusion. taking a whole day to play a game really isnt necessary, even if you are taking a large number of breaks.

  4. 1) yes to both. He begins as a support master; by the time you upgrade path of bone he becomes one hell of a beater too. when he's got level 4 in bone he has the potential to put out more damage in a single activation than both vikkies. 2)all the paths are good. It really depends on what you are looking to do though; generally I like to start with going up to level 2 in ash, followed by up to lvl 3 in spirit, as both of those choices really enhance the survivability of Yan Lo. 3) The soul porter is one of the most useful totems in the game - and it's all down to his (1) spell to push an ancestor their walk. That, combined with link, makes him awesome. Anything else is just gravy. 4) Both the niece and Yin are very much worth their points. The niece is the best support piece in the game, while yin is very good as well. Saying that, both are also very viable with other resser masters. 5) Yan lo can run a variety of different things and be viable. I think Izamu, toshiro, soul porter, and ashigaru to taste is a good idea, but it's just one of many different things that work well for him. While killing dogs for chi / corpses is an ok idea, I wouldnt say it's all that good an idea; you would be better off putting the points into models that will kill *enemy* models as fast, and just be slightly more careful with Yan in early turns. Even using Datsu is not all that good a proposition, as you really want to keep your crows for toshiro or yan, rather than using them to go for gaki/ onryo.
  5. She *can* be worth it, however, she's tough to use properly. Mostly I've found her to be more useful in crews that do not contain marcus, although there are times when her and marcus can provide quite a one-two punch.
  6. ok, as much as I would like to think otherwise, the companion errata is pretty clear on what happens in this case, taken from the rules clarification page on the malifaux website: so, to follow through the steps: 1) declare the viks are companioning 2) check for effects that mention on activation. Skip this step as the viks have nothing. 3) viks 1 activates and gains all of its AP. It is not paralysed, so it goes on to step . At this point, viks 1 has 1 melee expert AP, 2 general and 1 0 AP. Viks 2 has no AP at all. 4) viks 1 takes the [all] manifest. 5) avatar viks is placed in base contact with viks 2, and replaces it. Viks 1 is removed from the game, and the viks 2 model is also removed. 6) at this point, viks 2 would activate. As avatar viks, as an entirely new model replaced viks 2, it slots into the companion chain here 7) avatar viks checks to see if it has activated yet. Its a brand new model, ergo, no. 8) avatar viks checks to see if it has any on activation effects, and then proceeds to take its activation. the wording on the manifest action is quite specific in that one viks is replaced and the other is removed. As there is very definitely no restriction on which one this must be, the above trick is plausible. This is because despite the viks activating together and acting as a pair of models in general, they are still individual models. They each generate their own AP, and each can exist without the other being on the table.
  7. Marcella, the difference between assimilating a Reactivate spell effect and assimilating one of the riders' abilities is that the abilities are physically listed on the stat card. They are always there, however only some of them are active at any one time. Nix has it right though in all respects above.
  8. As above, you cannot use enemy models to ice mirror through. The way in which you pulled Seamus in however is the easiest way to make use of snowstorms ridiculous melee output. you pull seamus in, then flurry
  9. The only armor that lazarus can ever use and/or assimilate is the armor listed on his stat card, i.e. reinforced patched armor and evasive. Against all attacks, he gains the armor from reinforced patched armor. Against blasts, he gains the armor from reinforced patched armor and his evasive. If the blast, for some reason, ignores armor, then he would only gain the armor from his reinforced patched armor. the clause that specifies that the armor cannot be modified means that he cannot use assimilate to change the armor +1 he has natively to, say, armor+3, as it would be a case of modifying the armor. This is not the case with respect to his Evasive, as this isnt a modification, but rather a stacking of the two armor types as they are both effective against blasts.
  10. Ok then. In that case, go for a torakage and either an archer or Yamaziko. The archer will give you the ranged oomph the crew as a whole is lacking, while Yama will give you some more melee plus a decent heal as well. The other option instead is Willie plus Yamaziko. You lose out on the swapping with the torakage, but you have the healing and melee aspects of yamaziko while Willie gives you a bit of board control, a really nice ranged attack, and some pretty good melee as well. The biggest thing to worry about is his fragility.
  11. Are you adverse to proxying some models? if yes, then drop Mei to 7 SS cache and give her 1x wastrel, 1x torakage, and 1x trap. So, the list: Mei Feng + 7 stones Emberling Metal Gamin Rail Golem trap wastrel torakage this gives you 3 jump points, one of which you can preposition, as well as two very fast moving models that you can switch with using the torakage. Also, taking the torakage and trap combo means that you can use the torakage to go for a turn 2 objective grab if there is something you need to go for. The other big benefit of the wastrel is that it gives you another hard hitter, as you are currently relying on Mei and the golem to do most of the heavy hitting in the crew. One thing to also remember is the metal gamin's ability to Heat Metal (iirc). The action that drains burning counters to inflict wounds on a target model.
  12. Santana is a unique model with identical stats to Santiago in all respects, with the addition of one ability. She has the ability Animosity:Santiago. This prevents her from being used in the same crew as santiago, but otherwise has no restrictions on her different to santiago's.
  13. This model refers to the caster. The spell is designed to single out a target model and push enemy models near it away from the caster to open the way for the caster to jump in.

  15. in this situation, the gunfighter could only make a single disengaging strike, at 1". This is because you make a disengaging strike when a model leaves your longest melee range, in this case, bash (1"). However, when performing a disengaging strike you may use any of the weapons which you can make melee attacks with. another example: someone tries to walk away from toshiro. Toshiro tries to make a disengaging strike when you leave his melee range (1" on both his war fan and his katana), but he may choose to use either of the weapons. example 2: someone tries to walk away from a rotten belle. The rotten belle can make a disengaging strike when you leave their longest melee range, in this case 2". Despite having two weapons, only one of these has range to hit, so that weapon must be used. gunfighter does not extend your melee weapon range, nor does it turn your ranged weapon into a melee weapon - all that it does is allow you to use your ranged weapon for melee strikes with a range of 2". The other corollary of this is that you dont get bulletproof from attacks with gunfighter, as they are melee attacks.... in the example you are querying CRC, the following situations may occur: gunfighter and target are 0.5" apart. both models are engaged. Gunfighter may perform attacks using bash and/or their gunfighter weapon. a single disengaging strike may be performed when the target attempts to move more than 1" away from the gunfighter. gunfighter and target are 1.5" away from each other, and target has a 2" melee weapon. both models are engaged. gunfighter may perform melee attacks using gunfighter, but may not perform a disengaging strike if target attempts to walk away (as the target is not within the gunfighter's longest melee weapon range of 1"). gunfighter and target are 1.5" away from each other, and target has a 1" melee weapon only. neither model is engaged. gunfighter may perform melee attacks using gunfighter at the target, or may perform ranged attacks targetting target or another model within range, but may not perform a disengaging strike if target attempts to walk away (as the target is not within the gunfighter's longest melee weapon range of 1").
  16. Doh. You're right there. I must have had a brainfart. The way it works is that you make a disengaging strike at your longest melee weapon range (bash) but you are free to use gunfighter to use the peacebringer to make the strike, meaning you can use it's better Cb etc. @Cadilon, apologies if I came across a bit abrupt - I was typing in a daze this morning, and had about 6 other things going on at the same time.
  17. You can obey the golem to use head of steam so long as the burning counter in on the golem at the time. It would charge the closest model from its original crew using the ability.
  18. actually, no. you are mistaken. The exact wording of gunfighter, taken from perditas card: Gunfighter: This model can make melee Strikes up to 2” away with its Peacebringer. The weapon gains the melee type when making these attacks. what this means is that *only* when perdita is making a melee strike does she have a 2" melee range. this applies to both normal and disengaging strikes. The rest of the time, she only has the 1" melee bash attack range. in the above example, unless perdita is using an ap to make an attack, the gremlin is outside of her melee range, and it can shoot as much as it likes. Likewise, if perdita is 1.5" away from the gremlin, and there is another gremlin off to the side 5" away from her, she has the option to shoot either of them, as she is not engaged in melee.
  19. You would flip for them as normal. If the untargettable model becomes the target, the attack fails and the AP is wasted.

    Due to unforseen circumstances (including illness), Skibbfaux II has had to be postponed to November. More details will be forthcoming.
  21. When falling back, the only restriction on actions is that you cannot perform general or specific movement actions. This means that you cannotwalk or charge etc. There is absolutely no restriction on other actions other than the negative flips. In your example above, kadeton has the order of operations correct. StD would come before the fall back move, and hte fall back move would only occur if she was still alive.
  22. As long as you leave the PVA or hot glue gun glue set properly, you'll have no problem. I've done it myself with some bases and small terrain bits, and its solid. having said that, wood glue is better than art PVA, and you want stuff thats not too liquid. If you go to the local hardware store and shake it bottle, if it sloshes loudly its too watery.
  23. depending on the effect you are going for, I would recommend something different. If you go on ebay, you can find quite a few merchants that sell quartz crystal by job lots. if you order some, it takes a while to ship but they work really well. What you do is stick the quartz in place using either wood glue or hot glue, then when the glue has dried use cote d'arms or GW blue or green ink, followed by a white drybrush. after that, add snow effects to taste. depending on how much you order, you could do an entire table, plus bases, and they look really good.
  24. the penalties only apply during the rally process. Normally, a model would need to spend their turn rallying, during which they would suffer the penalties, and then at the end of their turn they would complete rallying, and thereafter be able to activate normally. Kang's spell means that as soon as Mei Feng enters the aura, she skips straight past the rallying process and comes out the other side, and can activate as normal when her activation comes up without any penalties.

    Skibbfaux II

    On Saturday and Sunday 13th and 14th October I will be running a pair of events in conjunction with the local henchman Cian O'Mahony at the Russagh Mills Hostel in Skibbereen, Ireland. It will consist of two separate events, a 30SS fixed faction tournament on saturday, and a 25SS fixed faction story event on sunday. Both events will be starting at 10:30. Signups begin at 10. Each game will last 90 minutes plus 10 minutes setup time, with a 15 minute break after each round. Hiring rules etc for both tournaments can be found in the First into the Breach pdf which also contains the rules for the story encounter on the sunday. It can be found here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bwlm8pU5GYC_a3dJdWo5WWdPbHM/edit The Saturday event will be using fixed shared strategies as follows: game 1:Shared Plant evidence game 2:Shared Turf War game 3:Shared Treasure Hunt for both events, all general, faction and master specific schemes may be used according to the rules manual or Storm of Shadows, and they will be unique for each event. The following changes will be applied to the respective schemes as follows: Kidnap: This scheme must target models with a minimum total value of 15 soulstones. This is in addition to the 3 model requirement. Sabotage: this scheme must be announced. 1 VP is gained if the model that takes the (1) sabotage action is alive at the end of the turn it sabotages. +1 VP if the model survives until the end of the following turn or the end of the game, whichever is soonest. My Little Friend: The copycat killer model must kill an enemy model worth 4 SS or more, a henchman or a master to score 2 VP. Proxies: proxies may be used for any model (including those from storm of shadows), however, these must suit the model in question, and must be fully painted. Also, an official stat card (for released models) or the relevant book must be used. The events will be held at the Russagh Mills Hostel in Skibbereen. Accomodation is 20 euro per night. Entry for each event will be 5 euro each (10 euro for both). Prizes will be available for first, second and wooden spoon for each event, although more prizes may be available, depending on turnout.
