- On the question of white or black primer- for the finished mini, it shouldn't make a difference (since you're covering it all up). Some people say that it is easier to get light or dark colors over a similar primer, but I haven't found that to be the case since you don't want ANY primer showing in the end. Also, black primer will cover up the mistake of missing some small part of the mini, while white would highlight it- but those are easy to work around. White primer makes it slightly easier to see the details on unpainted portions of the minis. Black primer makes it easier to compose the mini as you go, as it is much easier to ignore black than white. For example, it is easy to tell if you've got the lighting on the skin just right when the rest of the mini is black, and harder when the rest of the mini is white. I use black for this reason.

I was looking at Gencon's MHE competition, and it looks like Wyrd hasn't announced a category or prize support yet. They've done some great prize support in the past (and honestly, any year their supporting, Malifaux crews own the squad category). I hope they announce support soon.

Wyrd used to credit their sculptors (and painters) on their website, but I haven't seen a sculpting credit for any of their minis since they moved to plastic.

Here are some Guild minis that I painted up just a little while ago. I really felt that the skin tones should vary among the crew, and here are the results:

He's from Impact! miniatures' line of chibi adventurers.

So here's a pleasant little chibi elder god that I got painted up a little while ago. I decided to open his eyes a little (elder gods don't always have to sleep, right?)

He's large compared to other Super Dungeon minis. The base he's on isn't as large as the 25mm ones we normally see (I measured them once, but I don't remember how large SDE bases actually are).

Here is my Darkspace Fiametta that I painted up for my Paladins in Relic Knights. She has some issues with size- she's larger than the humans from the faction. So I decided that the best option was to make her not be human. Clearly the Tonorrians have a huge range in possible sizes (just compare Kisa and Austrican). I figure this is because they're cat people, and can be based on some wide varieties of felines. So, I figure it'd be ok to have a size of Tonorrian that's in between the two. Her ears are green stuff, her tail is a metal wire that I filed round at the edge.

Here is the resin version of the Wurm Claw Exemplar. He was popular enough that they've created a plastic version of him to deliver with the Kickstarter, but I got mine way early from Gencon.

So, I paint miniatures and make cake toppers. While there’s definitely some crossover in that audience, they’re more often separate. The most crossover I've seen in practice is that once in a while a groom might want a weapon based on a miniatures game. Until now. Here is a Space Marine made to go on top of a cake. It is modeled after the cosplay costume of the best man (the bride and groom were wearing outfits from different settings). So her is the largest Space Marine that I’ve ever painted:

My Iron Kingdoms RPG group sometimes can’t hold back. When we saw that Borka: Vengeance of the Rimshaws was riding a polar bear… well, we had to figure out how that might work for us. Luckily, we have a very good GM who is willing to make up some rules in the name of Awesome. And then it fell to me to create some awesome minis featuring our heroes riding bears. I grabbed a couple bears from Scibor (they’re very large) and put a couple of Reaper Bones minis on them- then did a lot of sculpting. Well, Here is a Dreamer Avatar that I got to paint a little while ago (for a client). All together, I think he came out rather well- the detail on the mini is really neat, and the concept is simply outstanding. I had some instructions on certain colors, Honestly, this mini was terrific to paint, and my only complaint about it is that Wyrd discontinued it (along with the other Avatar minis). I'd really love for them to have their 'classic' minis available for some of us. While I can see him being used as the Neverborn Emissary, I honestly think he'd work quite well simply proxying the part of Lord Chompy bits on the table. I've also posted him up to CMON for anyone who cares to vote.

Here is a demoness that I painted up for a client a little while ago. I think she came out rather nice in the end. She's from the Darklands line (Mierce miniatures) and the details is quite good. I've also put her up on CMON for anyone who cares to vote.

Here is a group of cake toppers that I did. I think the theme this time is fantasy weaponry. None of these brides and grooms decided to use the standard Shotgun or Chainsaws that are so useful to zombie survivors, and instead favored magic bows, spells, bastard swords and shields.

This is an adventuring party I created for the Iron Kingdoms RPG. Our group has been playing for years, but this is the first time we've really gotten into playing Menites (there's an issue of them not playing well with non-humans). Our group started their own order of knights who like to emphasize that "there's a place for all at the feet of Menoth." In role playing terms, it has been a lot of fun- they're quite condescending to the non-humans, but at the same time, they try to convert the dirty children of the Wurm rather than simply killing them all off. They all started life as Reaper Bones minis: Warcaster/Priest: Paladin of the Order of the Wall/Man at Arms: Adherent of the Order of the Fist/Cutthroat Military Officer/Spy (impersonating an Ordic Aristocrat)

Here is Meloda, from the Darklands range of minis. I've painted up a few Darklands minis, and I find that I am very fond of their sculpts. I normally think of them as a line of monstrous minis, but their human barbarians look quite good too. Here is meloda:

So, here's my take on the giant vampire bat from Super Dungeon Explore. Part of me thinks I should have gone with bright green to match Dracula's "True Form" from Symphony of the Night, but for some reason I decided to go with a more subdued color pattern. Here he is.

By the way, I've started painting the Dashel/plastic captain mini and his face is quite nice.

While I agree that ranting is not going to help convert people to your game (ranting is really just cathartic to those who already agree with you) I think there is a lot of conversion happening. GW's market is getting smaller and smaller- while the market for miniatures games as a whole is getting larger and larger. GW managed to do poorly in the year that they released a new edition of 40k. That's getting a lot of people away. I'd prefer that they found new miniatures games rather than quit entirely- there are loads of cool ones out there (and Malifaux is definitely one of the best).

Here's an odd mini that I painted right after Nethyrmaul. Instead of cleaning up my wet pallet (like I ought to) I decided to just use the paints that were already on it. I pushed most of the colors together to create different kinds of neutral tones (it's kind of funny because the undead dragon was pretty bright). Anyway, here she is.

Yes, it is definitely out of place. The reason that people don't discuss Malifaux over there very much is because the official boards are quite good. At least in the US, Malifaux has been doing better than Infinity. I don't know any numbers for Europe (and I haven't seen them too recently) but in the past Malifaux has made it into the top 5 on ICV2, while Infinity hasn't. To be honest, most of the forums that don't have official sanction are 90% dedicated to GW games (both living and dead). GW got rid of their forums and fan forums took over. But for most other games, the official forums are quite good, and are the best way to talk to other players.

Here is my Austrican (from Relic Knights). I really love this mini- very characterful. I was glad at the harsh lines on his face- that gave me plenty of room to make high contrast areas across his face. Otherwise, this color scheme is designed to match the Sebastian Cross I did before. I also posted him to Coolmini for anyone who cares to vote.

Well, here's the big Dracolich from Reaper. His base is a CD- I sculpted some rocks to match the rocks that the mini was already standing on. I'm really quite fond of this mini- dragons and zombies go together quite well,a nd his rotting flesh was a real joy to paint. You might not be able to tell from the photos, but the red areas are glossy, making him seem more fresh. Also, I posted him to CMON for anyone who cares to vote.
