  1. Each faction has subfactions that play a little differently. It's possible to mix and match a bit, but I'll list the feel of each master's synergized troops. With the new book that just came out, we're up to 26 possible subfactions. The small elite forces (and their synergized masters) seem to be: Ortegas (Guild, Perdita Ortega) Mostly shooty, they rate "good to amazing" with a couple of expensive models from their own group and some supplements from the mercs and the rest of the Guild. Beasts (Arcanists, Marcus) Melee monsters, literally. Alpha strike glass cannons. Haven't tried them myself, but hear they take a bit of finagling to "get." Woes (Neverborn, Pandora) With the changes to link Cuddling sorrows, the general consensus seems to be Pandora's currently best with a small core of relatively elite models. Pandora does most of the heavy lifting herself, despite her stats appearing somewhat lackluster. Review some tactica before trying her, as she plays different from just about anything seen in the world of minis gaming before. I'm currently undefeated with her, for what that's worth. Mercenaries (Outcasts, Viktoria) Viktoria mostly gets specialized named models with relative elite status, the exception being ronins... which can become additional elite models for a price. This force is the hardest to pin down a description for, since available models are each specialized in different ways. Hans is a sniper, Taelor is a beatstick, etc. I advise you look over everyone though. I swore to myself I wouldn't touch the undead in this game, because I play so many undead factions in other games... and then I read Seamus, and couldn't keep up the hate I wanted to feel. The fluff alone sucked me in.
  2. I've always pictured Pandora's kids, Candy in particular, to be relatively ignorant of the pain they were inflicting. I see them as "knowing" Daddy is a bad man, or Mommy has to be punished, but they're not deliberately malevolent about it, it's just something that has to happen, like nap time or snack time. I even get into character during some of my games. "Daddy hurt Kade. Now Kade's crying. Daddy oughta be ashamed. Daddy, make it all better..." (cue Self Loathing) The way Candy is presented just before the Event makes her feel far less creepy to me, and more like a caricature of spooky demon kid. I'm still interested to see what she turned into (book 3, maybe?) but I just felt it wasn't presented well.
  3. It was a Neverborn battle royale: the young and trendy Pandora and Dreamer against the tired old Lilith and Zoraida.
  4. Sorry, I realize my initial request isn't common, so I think I didn't make it clear enough. My opponent plays Lilith. I have pretty much wiped out his force every game to date. I have beaten down his Lilith with Chompy, Pandora (multiple lists), Colette, and the Ortegas. I usually give him a choice of opposition between a couple masters I feel like playing. He's an enthusiastic new recruit, and I'd like to see him win to keep him from getting too frustrated, so I'm trying to figure out what to use that would give him an edge, without holding up a big neon sign that says "I'm throwing the game."
  5. This is sort of a weird request, because I'm asking how to lose to Lilith. I have all four Neverborn masters, Colette, the Ortegas, and all the Rezzers except McMourning. A guy at the store has picked up Lilith (and recently Zoraida) and after about 4-5 games with various masters, he has yet to come close to challenging me (Chompy and his alps wiped out everything but the masters Turn One of tonight's all-Neverborn brawl). Assuming I am not some walking demigod of Fate Deck Awesome who cannot be beaten, what assortment would people recommend to give him a fighting chance against me?
  6. Most of my games see the majority of the deck cycle each turn at around 30-35 ss. I tend to rely on Pandy and her elite support, not sure how much that influences it. Knowing what both sides have used thus far that turn comes in handy almost every turn for me.
  7. Not that hard for a specific purpose. "Well, I've seen the 10, 11, and 13 of crows, so Seamus probably isn't raising a belle this turn." "My opponent's flipped all his 12s and 13s, he can't possibly cheat above an 18." The trick is to remember a small subset of cards, not every single card that's come out of the deck.
  8. Well, there's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sandman_%28short_story%29 The Sandman, a story by ETA Hoffman featuring a lawyer named Coppelius who builds a construct woman with beautiful eyes (and when she loses them the protaganist goes insane). Also, it's interesting that the concept art for Coppelius (eye-eating insanity inducing monster) has him wearing a similar outfit to Lucius, the Guild henchman with an unidentified monstrous form and power over Hoffman's half-construct brother.
  9. I have absolutely no idea. However, I knew I saw Unique somewhere, and if I'd hallucinated it, I'd've certainly started looking for a way to exploit two.
  10. My apologies if this has been covered, but a search hasn't turned up anything. I just realized Jack is lacking the Unique tag in the book and on his card. Is it truly possible to take more than one, should one so desire?
  11. Nicodem called forth every body that had ever died near where he was standing, regardless of how badly decomposed, and they formed a pillar of undead flesh surrounding and protecting him.
  12. Much as I don't like the Guild, I somehow doubt the Guild Master that gives other Guild Masters power envy is going to be stopped by something as trivial as a building collapsing on top of them. Dead? Maybe. But smart money says we'll be hearing, "I got better..."
  13. Here's a consideration: the Ortegas practically use the OP's "weakness" as their strategy. They Companion to go as a group at the start of each round, leaving most of the enemy force free reign to run rampant afterward. The family averages about 6 stones per model, and is one of if not the smallest starter set with the fewest soulstones. And honestly? I -loathe- facing off against them, because they shoot the heck out of whatever I'm playing. Of course, they're also designed to work together toward that end, and aren't a random collection of high-priced models cobbled together into a one trick pony...
  14. Counter argument (possibly devil's advocate): the Wp duel is required for models targeting Pandy for any reason. Therefore the moleman is already targeting her, and his AP is what's actually at stake. +1 for requesting rules marshal
  15. It's all in the strategy. A marker or two on top of a treasure token or in the middle of a claim jump terrain can ruin the opposing crew's day. Just one more note on the pile of reasons to remember you pick your crew AFTER flipping for strategies.
  16. Zoraida can hire any model with WP <=4.
  17. I have my old Mordheim terrain from about 10 years ago, very fitting for a town the Neverborn have ransacked, or maybe part of the QZ. GW's not getting another cent of my money, mind you, and the new Malifaux terrain to be released at GenCon is looking shiiiiiiiiiiny...
  18. ...what can I get for a cheesecake?
  19. According to Weird Sketch when I asked at the Origins booth, Book 2 has so much awesome there was no room to stuff in avatars.
  20. I'll be spending my mornings staffing the TerrorWerks event, but I'm definitely trying to find some time for a tournament or two, and am seeing if I can't budget for a nice, massive Lord ChompyBits...
  21. Curse you, Wyrd, for claiming ever-more of my meager gaming budget!
  22. Where the swamps give way to beaches, the ocean calls those parched by their prolonged stay in Malifaux’s unforgiving climate. Rumors have it that on these beaches, away from the prying eyes of the Guild, there are communes where life is a massive party, where glistening, golden-bodied men flex their muscles for fawning women in scanty bathing suits. The food is never ending, warm sun beats down by day and bonfires rage in the night. What the tales do not tell is that these refuges are the domain of Helios, Neverborn master of the sun and fire, and his minions have their own idea of what makes a good party. Helios Neverborn Master (40mm) Cache 3 Bearing a golden tan and rippling muscles, Helios leads parties of all description on the beaches of Malifaux. 23. As has been said elsewhere, if they've completely removed the ability to use life leech or siphon magic, that's a serious blow to Sorrows. Has a rules marshal commented on the intent behind this somewhere?
  24. Has anyone tried Jack out with Pandora? I'm wondering if the extra Wp attacks from Jack and his Hanged would be worth it for the price. Maybe as a sort of "second Master" in a Brawl, using the SS for not taking a real second one?
