  1. I appreciate the recommendation! Killjoy is definitely shortlisted. I had my eye on him even before I took an interest in Leveticus. With some speedy Necropunks in play, he's an ideal way to sew confusion and panic near enemy lines while the rest of my shambling horde progresses (in the case of my Res Masters). I only wish Leveticus had more options with regard to Brawls. Beyond Ramos, there's not a lot of variety when you move into high ss play. I'd thought that maybe Nico and his Embrace Death ability would somehow circumvent Leve's Pariah ... but no dice.
  2. Makes sense! Avoiding retroactive confusion. My bad. Thanks goblyn and dread. :thumb:
  3. I simply assumed Outcast models were the only ones with the mercenary trait. I could very well be wrong, I'm not 100% familiar with all the stat cards. Are there non-Outcast models labeled as mercenary? If not, what exactly did I state incorrectly? I'm not being defensive, I actually want to know! The last thing I want is to misinform someone or make a mistake while building a crew. Cheers.
  4. When are SPAs due for release? I suppose Necropunks will have to stand in, until then.
  5. As an aspiring Leveticus player, this thread is delicious. I haven't had a chance to sit down and read it all the way through front to back, but I intend to. Even so, I'm facing a bit of a time crunch, scheduled to submit an order for a bunch of minis in just a few hours (not all Malifaux, but some). I'm hoping someone wise in the ways of Leveticus can provide me with the abridged version as I strive to make an informed purchase: As a budding Leveticus player, what models do I absolutely need? 1. Leveticus (duh) 2. Hollow Waifs 3. Rusty Alyce? Is there anything else? I have access to a big pile of Resurrectionist models, tons of Undead to choose from. I guess Steampunk Abominations will be go-to once they're eventually released. So many Constructs to choose from, so little time. If I could get away with just Leve, Waifs and Alyce, great. Suggestions? P.S. I figure this is somewhat on topic as it has to do with optimal Leveticus crew building (albiet from a noob perspective). Certainly not worthy of an entirely separate thread.
  6. Oh hey, The Sweeney mini is nice. Replace his razor with a gun, add a satchel to his other hand, somehow get a top hot on there ... done deal. I make it sound easy on paper. It's likely a conversion well beyond my current capabilities. 25mm base? I assume he's a little on the small side? Holy crap Chucklemonkey, those Smog sculpts are awesome. Tim Burton's frontal lobe in epoxy. The Ripper model is certainly cool, maybe a tad too feral for Seamus but a wicked piece otherwise (it would definitely justify his Terrifying).
  7. Ha! I really like the one Gamlin kicking snow. Stunning work overall. You've really managed to capture the essence of cold. The color palette is great and I love the snow on the Golem, excellent.
  8. When hiring outside of your faction (assuming you're not Outcast), you can hire only Outcast models with the "Mercenary" attribute for +1 ss cost. Outcast crews can only hire Outcasts, but are not restricted to Mercs. You can play with any model within your own faction obviously, with the exception of some Totems that otherwise need to be attached to a specific Master and certain summoned models that again are Master dependent. Generally, you could not hire Arcanist models for a Guild crew ... though Hamelin does present an exception in that he's a Merc who can be hired by anyone, and in turn has the ability to hire Ht1 models from other factions.
  9. Thanks for the suggestions. The Reaper model has a LOT in common with Seamus, doesn't he? Replace the knife with a gun and you're in the same bleachers of the same ballpark. The Chirugeon Barber is definitely creepy. His face is odd, but that's what makes him "not quite right." I saw a pic of a Seamus done in muted earth tones just the other day, with pinstripes on his pants and hat. It did take the edge off a little bit. I love a model with a sense of humor but he crosses a line between funny/creepy and Saturday morning cartoon-ish. The proportions of his outfit, tiny waist, platform shoes, massive hat, the laughably huge blade on the gun, I dunno. There I things I definitely like about the model, don't get me wrong. You mentioned his face, which is great. His grin is a keeper. Understandable, though I find him too exaggerated moreso than too un-Res(?), compared not only to his own faction but to the entire line of Malifaux minis. Like I said, I'll have the model in hand when I pick up the Redchappel Gang. Maybe my opinion will change when I start considering color scheme/basing possibilities. If he does get painted, it'll definitely be in muted tones to avoid highlighting his cartoon-ish quality ... though I'd likely include a real nice shock of screaming red on him somewhere. Red and light browns, hmm. One thing is for certain: the blade on the gun is coming off. Simple snip and file job, maybe a little greenstuff cleanup. That'll remove one cartoon exaggeration, reduce the height. Combine that with a muted color scheme ...? Though he's definitely my least favorite Res miniature, Seamus is still a Wyrd miniature; which means it's hard to replace him. Finding a proxy that looks good on a table next to Wyrd models is a tough ask. Thanks again!
  10. Does anyone know of mini that would stand as a decent Seamus proxy? I intend to buy the Redchappel Gang for Sybelle and the Belles (basically scoring Seamus for free or damn close). I'll have the goofy bastard on hand if I absolutely need to use the model in a tourney situation or something, but I'd otherwise prefer to keep Magically Delicious on the sideline. Hit the showers, Hatter! I love his fluff and his stat card makes me smile, but the mini doesn't work for me. He sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the Resurrectionist line ... which was probably the point ... which I can appreciate. That said, the psychotic Leprechaun (compounded exponentially by Copycat Killer) + Mad Hatter motif doesn't fly in my eyes. I'd prefer Jack the Ripper + Bill "The Butcher" Cutting, if forced to be specific. He's supposed to be the scariest dude on two legs, but all I want is his Lucky Charms. In a totally platonic sort of way. I realize it's his reputation that's meant to be Terrifying, what with all the mutilated corpses left in his wake, but I simply can't come to terms with it. It's about the only model in the Res line I can't bring myself to field. Though I'm not a massive fan of the Flesh Construct, he'll be in the mix, poop-eating grin and all. Beyond that, I adore the entire decaying mess. I sincerely hope Wyrd will forgive me for this one transgression. :notworthy So anyway. Proxy. Can anyone think of a mini that would suit? I'm not afraid of a little greenstuff and some relatively simple conversion, but I'm no artist. Any thoughts?
  11. Unrelated to anything, but WOW. I've been misspelling "Ressurectionist" since day one. Yay me! I feel like I've been walking around with spinach in my teeth.
  12. I do. And I sympathize. I've owned my own business going on 11 years and it's a difficult lifestyle at the best of times, especially with online retailers able to operate for a song, allowing them to undercut brick and mortar establishments (thankfully, not a reality in my line of work). The owner of the store I frequent makes it clear that he doesn't earn a living off the merchandise he moves. He pays the rent with it, at best. He feeds his family and gases up his car thanks to commission paint jobs and casting his own minis. He does it because he loves it, not because he's living the high life. We players connect the dots. If he doesn't move minis, he doesn't pay rent. If he doesn't pay rent, the store closes and we're back to playing on kitchen tables using empty milk cartons and encyclopedias for terrain. Worse still, we lose our place to play and the community therein. Not something I'm willing to sacrifice, personally.
  13. Oh my, you can bet. The Belles are on my short list. Not only are they pleasing from a stat card standpoint, they happen to be some of my favorite minis in the entirety of Malifaux.
  14. Exactly. Personally, I'd feel odd showing up on a regular basis to play on a FLGS table knowing full well I didn't buy a single mini from the shop in question. Even worse, the owner would know ... and that would just be awkward. But that's just me and my overdeveloped sense of guilt.
  15. I recently purchased about $150 worth of Malifaux merchandise from my FLGS. I went online and discovered I'd save about $40 buying through online retailers. I brought the number to the owner of the shop and said, "Look, I'll save a bunch of money if I buy from this retailer in the UK but I'd rather give you the money and support the store. Is there anything you can do? I don't expect you to match dollar for dollar ..." Turns out he had no problem matching the price. Told me he's wasn't about to turn down money and he was happy to sell a bunch of minis for a game he's excited to see catching on. Online retailers low-balling for 20-30% off MSRP w/ free shipping will be the eventual death of local game shops. There's no getting around it. You gotta support your FLGS, even if it means spending a little more (I was prepared to spend more, I got lucky). Do you use their tables? Their terrain? Do you prefer having someone else organize events and tourneys? I enjoy having a place to congregate and play. Seems like a fair trade.
  16. Did anyone else play a PC game called Dungeon Keeper back in the day? I used to be an addict. During the course of the game, the player would create a horde of evil gribblies to protect their dank dungeon home from wandering heroes. These monsters would spawn from their specific lair with a randomized name. For whatever reason, two of the random names stuck with me long after Dungeon Keeper faded from memory. Boochof the Bile Demon and Sozoa the Vampire. Now, I don't possess an affection for vampires. Quite the opposite, in fact. I've had quite enough of pasty face, pretty boy vampires with frosted tips mucking up today's pop culture. That said, the name stuck with me. Turns out it's also a genus of moth. Who knew?
  17. Wow! Multiple batreps and a slew of great pics. Awesome thread. Thanks for all the effort!
  18. The Online Store link is your best bet for images. Each mini is represented as part of a specific faction (from the menu on the left hand side)
  19. 100% agreement. I would absolutely adore at least one additional Flesh Construct option since I'm bound to have several crashing around with McM running show. Variety is the spice of (un)life, after all. That said, I'd prefer Wyrd crank out minis for the models that lack a tabletop presence first and foremost. Gotta assume that's priority.
  20. I think the rim of the base is meant to compliment both the model and the terrain it stands on. As has been said, black goes with everything. Regardless of the model's color scheme, black looks good and doesn't detract. Whether it's standing on flock, stone, sand or red hot lava, black won't look out of place. Even if you've based your mini with snow and you're playing on a lush, green forest board, a black rim will smooth the transition between your basing and the table. For instance, I painted the majority of my TK army with Desert Yellow base rims. It complimented the minis, which was nice. It looked great on desert boards, which was nice. But it looked odd on everything else, which was not so nice. I'd rather have "all the bases covered" (HA!), and black is the only color that does the job, in my experience.
  21. There's just something about Doug, isn't there? I think it's his smile. :inlove: 8th Ed. Warhammer will have to be something pretty special to light my fire. On the other hand, Malifaux IS something pretty special, so GW is already well behind the curve. That's all I have to say about that. @Nilus: Terrain seems to be a key factor in Malifaux and you can really pack it in on a 3x3 table. The demo board our LGS has set up is pretty good for that (he's currently working on a separate Victorian themed table). Now that I've settled on a faction based largely on theme and mini appeal, I look forward to getting better acquainted with the tactical side of the Ressurectionists.
  22. Oh, cool. I guess that's the Warhammer in me talking. My rulebook arrived yesterday! I should be up to speed soon enough. Judging from the rules alone, it would appear faction/master details are meant to be kept a secret. I assume it's a moot point often enough, when your opponent is a known quantity and owns but a single crew.
  23. So, officially, your choice of faction isn't technically announced until deployment, at which point you plop down your first mini. Even at that point you could place an Outcast. In effect you delay revealing your faction, potentially for two individual deployments (assuming two mercs and not an Outcast crew).
  24. Prior to hiring: Is my opponent meant to know what my faction is? Is my opponent meant to know my mission? Is my opponent meant to know which schemes I intend to run, assuming I announce them? All of the above would have a huge impact on deciding who is hired, which seems to be the point. You learn who you're up against and what they're attempting to do, you then build the best possible crew to counter AND complete you own objectives. I imagine the actual hiring process would be done in secret.
