  1. I like that Insidious Madness proxy. Guessing it's a Shoggoth. What range? As for the pics, you could grab a cheap micro tripod (I picked mine up for like six pounds) and then override the flash setting to "off". Set your self-timer for a couple of seconds and ensure you've got plenty of decent light hitting the model from all sides (this is where light tents do the job).
  2. Yeah, echoing what others have said, I like the cohesive look to the crew. Black, white and blue has worked really nicely. I particularly like the teddy panda.
  3. Yeah, I spotted that mistake afterward (I put a comment lower down the thread). I was using the "scavenger" ruling from the first book whereby any model with scavenger could take an (all) action to generate a counter. After the game, as I was trying to figure out why Sebastian's ability to generate body parts was a spell with casting cost, I came across the errata. Now I realise why McMourning has a tendency to butcher his own dogs for parts these days!
  4. Cheers guys. I've been moonlighting with my Neverborn for a bit. Although, that said - I am constructing Sebastian, Bete and some Necropunks as I write this. So, watch this space for more Rezzers soon.
  5. It was a great terrain setup and a very cool game. Sorry for the boat-shattering hurricane Oh yes, full battle report on the blog
  6. Sweet paintjobs on those crews. I like the monochromatic Dreamer crew though I'd have been tempted to maybe add one colour in there subtly for a bit more visual interest. But, seriously, an awesome array of models which will look great on the tabletop I've no doubt.
  7. Had an awesome 35 soulstone four masters brawl on Saturday. I've posted up a full battle report with pics and turn maps over on my blog: Pandora and McMourning vs Ramos and Viktorias (35ss) We weren't sure about the official 4-player or team rules but the way we played it seemed to work out fine. Anyway, hope you enjoy the batrep
  8. Nice shading on the flame. Great stuff. @rudders: I think they are painted on freehand, from what I remember.
  9. Really? I never heard that. Glad I bought two cans of the magic stuff when I last ordered it. Wasn't that long ago actually. Wonder if I ordered it from the US and it was snuck through as contraband. :surprised
  10. Very nice. Been meaning to try the Baking Powder snow technique and this shows that it can look great
  11. Little bit more progress on my Pandora crew. I took a little painting kit away on holiday with me and managed to get most of the painting done on the Doppelganger and Candy while out there. Just finished up the basing tonight and here they are: Doppelganger, Malifaux Neverborn by Maxvon_d, on Flickr Doppelganger, Malifaux Neverborn by Maxvon_d, on Flickr Candy, Malifaux Neverborn by Maxvon_d, on Flickr Candy, Malifaux Neverborn by Maxvon_d, on Flickr They were a pleasure to paint. I especially enjoyed painting Candy's candy and I'm also happy with the Doppelganger's back, and the urn on her base - which was actually done as a bit of an afterthought. Anyway, hope you like 'em
  12. I've played around with colour theory a bit recently and put a post up on my blog about it which some might find relevant and interesting. (Apologies for the shameless plug!)
  13. Like Kaine, I use Rosemary & Co brushes. Exclusively these days. Really good brushes and very reasonably priced (here in the UK at least). At the moment I find myself switching back and forth between Series 33 sizes 1 and 3/0. I recently got a pot of Masters Brush Cleaner soap. It's scary how much gunk it gets out of the brushes! Expensive stuff though from my local art store.
  14. I think I use a bit of VMC Royal Purple on every model I paint these days. I also have a pre-mixed dark turquoise with a touch of flow improver which serves as a nice shading base for many colours. VMC Beige and VMC Pale Sand are good highlight colours. Agree re the Cork recommendation. I have used quite a bit of that.
  15. Btw, nice models Peterdita. Particularly like the basework you've got going on there.
  16. Just ordered me a Heresy one. Thanks for the heads up chaps
  17. Yep. Stunning crew. And I'm most envious of your conversion skills
  18. Uhu glue may be your answer. Check out this tutorial by the awesome guys at Massive Voodoo (caution: it's pretty gruesome in places)
  19. And now I've finished off Mortimer. I'm pretty chuffed how this guy came out for some reason! I think it's the ruddy stubbly face. Yet again, a joy to paint Mortimer, Gravedigger (Malifaux) by Maxvon_d, on Flickr Mortimer, Gravedigger (Malifaux) by Maxvon_d, on Flickr Mortimer, Gravedigger (Malifaux) by Maxvon_d, on Flickr Hmm, photo is a little under-exposed. Sorry about that. As with the other Rezzers, he's based on a Kerr & King Dockside resin. Now that batch are mostly done I intend to get some water effect in there.
  20. I did that to some extent but possibly not enough. Definitely a learning for next time. Yep, it was intentional. I wanted all the resurrected minions to have glowing eyes. I tried to highlight the eyeball from turquoise green up to white and then as I recall I used coloured glazes around the eye area to represent the light spilling out. Strongest and brightest nearest the eyes. Probably best example was the pug: McMourning's Dogs by Maxvon_d, on Flickr
  21. Cheers guys @TimeLapse: I don't have Bete, but I would like to have a crack at her. The sculpt has always been a weird one for me and looks kinda hard to get a good result with. Tempted to try now though.
  22. Very nice Zoraida. Great strong colours. Would love to see a larger and lighter pic though.
  23. So I pretty much got my McMourning crew finished in time for the tournament we had here in London this past weekend. Less said about my performance in game the better, but I won a Malifaux Colouring Book for the paintjobs on my crew. Woohoo! Anyway, here's the crew. Minus Mortimer - who is still in need of a bit of touching up before he gets his photos. McMourning Crew, Malifaux by Maxvon_d, on Flickr And some individual shots of the newer ones: Convict Gunslinger, Malifaux by Maxvon_d, on Flickr Malifaux Nurse by Maxvon_d, on Flickr Flesh Construct, Malifaux by Maxvon_d, on Flickr Canine Remains, Malifaux by Maxvon_d, on Flickr Canine Remains, Malifaux by Maxvon_d, on Flickr Canine Remains, Malifaux by Maxvon_d, on Flickr You can click through to Flickr and see larger views or back shots of each. Or head on over to my blog where you can read about my ignominious defeats in the tournament, or a little commentary on the painting of the crew. For McMourning and the others you can see shots in my WiP thread here on the Wyrd Forums.
  24. Excellent. Good to see you on here. Perhaps I'll get to face them on November 6th at the tournament, though I'm kinda dreading that eventuality! Great paintjobs though. As people have said, that dusty look has come out really well.
