  1. Keep in mind, he's trying to strip PLASTIC minis...
  2. Very tight looking group. I can't wait to see Candy and Pandora. The bases are exceptional. You've got a stunning crew going.
  3. It was sort of tongue in cheek, that's why it's listed in both bad and good. Bad(ish) that they've reached 14pgs in 6 months, good that they've done what's been needed. Of course, I played "Rogue Trader" (the earliest version of 40K) so if I can deal with THAT mess, I can handle anything. I don't know that I'd use GW as a benchmark for any sort of consistency at all, especially visual. I certainly don't mind different styles for different sections, or different factions, or books, but it's odd to see one master illustrated one way, and on the facing page another master is WILDLY different, stylistically. Again, I spent a lot of time in art and design, so it may just be me. It's not like it's a deal breaker, but with a little tighter art direction, the feel of the book might be tighter. As for rules/fluff/rules/fluff... I don't mind the occasional break from rules for storyline, but it's almost every 10 pages of rules there are 4 pages of story. I'm more than willing to believe it's personal preference, but to me at least, it doesn't aid in 'getting it'. That was my experience here. Kade, the tiniest mini of the bunch, has 2 sets of mould likes, the worst of which runs right down Kade's face, down the teddy bear's leg right along/through the stitches. At it's worst, it's nearly a 1mm step across the mould line. Kade is too cool, and along with Candy, the reason I went Neverborn. I should have added originally that there was very little flash, and on the sorrows especially, things were very neat and clean overall. It's just a bummer that on the minis with the smoothest finishes, I got the mould lines.
  4. The safest way to remove paint from metal/plastic minis is simple green. Dump them into a full strength bath of S/G for about 24-48 hrs, depending on the type of paint and sealant originally used. Faster, but worse for your skin (wear gloves) is Pine Sol. This WILL dissolve both plastic and super glue if they are left in too long (start with 5 MINUTES). In general, most people consider plastic minis to be '1 shot' - ie; they don't strip too well. I tend to agree. If the original paint layer isn't too thick you might well consider simply lighly re-priming over the original paint. Some people like Brake Cleaners, Acetone, or Oven Cleaner for stripping paint, but all of these are a crap-ton more toxic than either of the first two choices.
  5. So I'm new here (apart from the car-wreck that was getting my first order thread). Looking at the book, game and minis from the position of an outsider, but one who has gamed on and off for almost 30 years (yes, I am older than dirt), here are a few initial observations. I hope to update these as I explore the rules book, gaming aids, and minis as I go. The Bad. The Rules Book. 1) somewhat inconsistent visual imagery. I LOVE the Sepia line drawings of individual masters as voodoo dolls. The colour work tends to vary wildly, which I feel hurts the overall effect a little. Some are very Anime inspired, others more 'American Comic', still others slightly more life inspired. Just a little jarring for those who tend to notice that sort of thing. Especially when they occur inside of a given faction. 2) Continuity. I like all my rules together. Insert the fluff elsewhere. For new players looking to build a gestalt for the game, it really breaks the flow of the text to have to skip 3-5 pages to continue the rules for each little section. Minis 3) Bat-Sh*t crazy mould lines. My first box has 3 sets on Baby Kade. Two on Candy and Pandora. It's like the original master was ruined and they re-cast a secondary mould. This apparently happened at least once, if not twice for Kade. 4) 14 pages of errata?, really, already? The Good. Rule Book 1) Excellent appendix. Nice indexing. Good, solid clear rules. Most of the errata was pretty minor stuff. 2) Great appearance. The book LOOKS cool. The overall imagery for the game/universe is nice and solid. With more consistent artwork/visual direction, this would be even cooler. 3) Minis. That's why I'm here. The stuff is very cool. I love the 32mm, slightly elongated proportions of the humanoid minis. It gives them a slightly hungry, desperate quality. The exceptions all seem to be planned for effect, so +100 here. It's rare that minis => art, but you guys have really nailed it. 4) Fun factor of the game. I've not played much yet, but the 'interactivity' of each turn, the ability to cheat against your opponent really aids in your BEING there, even during your opponents turns. This makes for a very interactive, smack-talky game (which I love, 'cause I'm a loud-mouth). 5) Story line to date. Cool. Plain and simple. I love where it's going. 6) Web-zine. Again, nothing but gold. Game nerds LOVE more fodder for their obsession, and I'm no exception. I LOVE reading more little tidbits about the world, characters, etc. 7) 14 pages of errata.... I know, it's a DIYD,DIYD situation. I love that you are actively correcting situations as they occur. I'm still gonna give you a little smack for not catching them in play test or editing. Seriously, this game is cool looking, fun, and addictive. I hope you don't take this as personal or as overly abrasive. I'm here after one look at your tre's-cool figs, and the general mechanic of the game (dice hate me). Keep up the great work.
  6. To hopefully end this on a good note, my package arrived today. Anything else aside, it was expertly packed. The book was crisp and perfect, and came wrapped in brown paper to prevent scuffs in shipping. The box of minis was likewise in perfect condition and everything was surrounded by foam peanuts. The outer shipping box was very thick and of good quality. I'd also like to add that Steve sent me a very nice PM this morning as well as his posting here.
  7. Hi Steve, thank you for coming on to explain the situation. It's always heartening to see a business taking these matters in hand. There are a few of your details, though, that are a little inaccurate. 1) There was one paypal payment made for the two separate purchases. Paypal's order details list all three items on the payment. 2) The deck didn't ship on Tuesday, it wasn't even acknowledged to me as 'order received' via email until Wednesday. It shipped Thursday via USPS. This was emailed to me as a shipping notice on Thursday with a tracking number. 3) When I asked via email on Friday 1/22 for more information on your shipping notice, that should have sent up a red flag. I asked if the order was mailed all together, or if only the deck had posted. I was told via email on Monday 1/25 that the book and minis had shipped separately via UPS. 4) It was not until after the reply email above that it was sent via USPS. I was not told of this and only found out when I called on Tuesday. Again, I don't have a particular axe to grind here. I really appreciate your registering on the forum and taking the time to come on to explain what happened. I spent 6 years in international sales and logistics, so am somewhat familiar with the trials of e tracking things, in and out-bound. I think your overall feedback, both here and on eBay probably speaks for itself (and is excellent, which is why I ordered through you). The reason I chose to ask the question here was not to air dirty laundry, but that I'm new to both Malifaux and your business. I wanted Malifaux players, who were likely to have ordered from you, to give me their personal experience with your handling of Wyrd product. All that said, there were multiple occasions on your end to have caught this error (or at least just tell me 'oops, we assed up'), which never happened. Even when I was on the phone Tuesday there was no recognition of the peculiarities of the order on the MM side of the phone. Thank you again for coming on to help iron this situation out.
  8. What would I like from a crew builder? 1) help me to win games.* 2) soul stones, wounds, and basic abilities reference (name, not rules) 3) nice clean print format that works with my pdf writer. * I'm willing to accept that #1 might not be a possibility.
  9. I'd love to have some undead Can-Can girls... as bait for the Ortegas. Lure them out and then kill/eat them
  10. I always try to buy my stuff at my VFLGS, but they don't have access to Malifaux yet. That may change now that Alliance is distributing for Wyrd. That said, Neil from the Warstore is truly the man. I've never, ever had a single issue with TWS. I'm hoping that my little issue with Miniatures Market is an isolated case. Their eBay feedback is near 100%, so maybe their moving the warehouse IS the problem... but something really amazing would have to happen for me to use them again, and to be frank... I don't know what that could even be.
  11. Well, a brief update here. I got just the deck on Saturday. Got a response to my initial question yesterday at 13:48CST saying that the other pieces shipped UPS and due to the timing on my orders everything couldn't be shipped at once (which is a bit odd, as I ordered everything at one time). In a reply I asked for the UPS tracking number, since UPS only takes two days to get from MO to WI - no answer. After today's UPS delivery, with nothing from Miniatures Market, I called and asked for the UPS tracking number. Apparently, it didn't ship UPS, but USPS. Even less cool was the fact that once I entered the tracking number, it turns out that it wasn't even MAILED until yesterday (order submitted 14:05 CDT, P/U @ 15:27 and Processed by USPS @ 18:30). So it didn't even mail out until AFTER he emailed me back saying that it had already shipped UPS. Now, again, I'm not a terribly impatient person, but I hate when people shine me on. If I had gotten an 'oops, sorry we assed this up' or even a 'due to delays beyond our control', I could excuse this... but to lie about it when directly asked just eats it. If anybody needs a coupon for an additional 10% off their next web order from MM, just let me know.
  12. I haven't even gotten my copy of the 1st edition rules yet :frusty:. That said, once everything is actually released (no more proxy models) and run for a while (maybe a year or two) I'd gladly buy a new improved edition, or even better, a 'bumper-fun-double-edition' with the completely revised rule set and the expansion all in one (fingers crossed)
  13. a: congrats on the hopeful promotion. b: welcome to Malifaux, it's horrible and tainted by evil here  and we're totally down with that. c: jump on in, the water's nice and warm here (I'm new too)
  14. Thanks for the responses. I'm only two states away (I could drive there and pick it up in about 4 hrs.) I wouldn't even be asking if there wasn't the erratic messages about 'orders received' and 4 day shipping mentioning only one item. It's good to hear from others (and not just ebay feedback) that they're pretty good. Again, I'm not a terribly impatient person, but when promised something, I tend to expect people to fulfill. It's not the end of the world if I don't get it for even another week (gods know I have enough other stuff on my plate) but when you get into a particular frame of mind (based on expectations given to you)... it's sometimes hard to deal with disappointment every day at the mailbox, and bad/unclear communications.
  15. Subject says (or asks, in this case) it all. I ordered some stuff (my starter box, book, and 1st deck) from them on eBay at the end of last week. Their website and eBay store site says that they ship within 24hrs. The 1st communication I got back was 3 business days later saying that they'd 'received my order'. I got a message saying that they'd shipped the deck the next day (four b-days past the order point). I sent them a message asking if they'd shipped the complete order all in one go, or if it was only the deck that had posted out, still haven't gotten an answer back yet. Their feedback on eBay seems good, but if you order something that's "in stock" (with a quantity remaining counter and promises 1 day turn around,) I should have it by now. UPS can cover two states in 2-3 days no worries (as can USPS, usually - barring holidays). Has anyone had any other issues, or am I one of the unlucky 10 out of the last 2000 over the past year? PS. I should add that I'm a relatively patient individual, but if someone promises something, I get cheesed-off when they DON'T deliver.
  16. I picked up Pandora too, although she has yet to arrive for me. Teddy will be my next purchase as well. Cuddly little guy was one of the reasons I ended up getting into the game, that and little cute baby Kage. As to the FT, there was a lot of bad, but quite a bit of good as well, if you were willing to wade through everything. I'm glad they killed it off as well though.
  17. Welcome over NN. It's funny to see just how many of us from the PP boards end up over here as well. So, which crews did you start with?
  18. Where the hell's my Miyagi?? I didn't like the original that much (and am old enough to have seen it in the theater :shot: ) but this one seems really lame too, even with Jackie Chan.
  19. Mine started a long time ago. I make small things (gs, custom casting, painting, terrain, etc). I used to do a TON of commission work, but have tried to do less, as I was so busy painting and working other people's stuff, that by the time I came around to my own stuff... I was just under motivated. So my name is also my 'job description'. It's the same here as on Dakka, Privateer, AWC, Warseer, etc, etc.
  20. I third (or fourth) the magnet and case solution. I tend to use 30mil magnetic sheeting (the kind they use for magnetic car door signs) that comes with an adhesive backing. For smaller, delicate models I think the force required to remove a model from it's metal 'deck' can be too much when using rare earths. For big 50mm bases I do use rare earths. I have 8 different rubbermade cases of various sizes, with a metal plate glued to the bottom. +1 for Battlefoam if you're flying to conventions. They are expensive, but the hard sided cases are gold for protecting minis. They also make a very small bag, probably enough for 2-3 crews and mercs.
  21. my mum does a rather delightful apple-rhubarb crumble. Although I may not be the best judge. As a small child I delighted in raw rhubarb and small, under-ripe green apples. That may actually go some way toward explaining the rather corrosive nature of my skin...
  22. He is a devious bastard, isn't he...? He used to pummel me mercilessly with his cheaty Circle of Orboros, now I look forward to having my poor Baby Kade and Candy beaten senseless by his forces. Why again am I starting this game? Oh yeah, I'm weak, the minis rock, and Fool needs a punch in the head for being a 'pusher'. lol! Seriously though, thanks for the warm welcome. After I finish my terrain project, I'll hopefully have some painted Wyrd minis to post.
  23. Hey all, I'm a long time 40Ker (although I've drifted away from that) whose been playing WM/H for around 3yrs. Despite a promise I made to myself to NOT buy any new armies/factions/games/etc until I have my other 3 WM factions painted and a rather large terrain project finished... I caved. I personally blame Fool. I warned him that I was a sucker for cool minis and to NOT show me anything... cool minis are like my crack. So I caved. I have the Neverborn Pandora box winging it's way to me, along with the rule book and a fate deck.
