  1. Hey Phil, thanks for the message, yes, there are still a few places left and it would be great if you wanted to come along. We've made a ruling on Proxies though which is that you can proxy only one model/type of model in the crew, so you could proxy for your killjoy, but not the gunslinger as well for example, it's just so that people can use a conversion, or a model which hasn't been released yet, but you don#t end up with loads of crews where an opponent has to memorise what each model is. If you check out the threads on the clapham wargamers board http://www.claphamwargamers.org.uk/Forum/showthread.php?tid=442 http://www.claphamwargamers.org.uk/Forum/showthread.php?tid=449 claphamwargamers http://www.claphamwargamers.org.uk/Forum/showthread.php?tid=448 Thats got the q&a, latest news, alliance thread and whatnot. Hope all that makes sense, and any questions give me a shout here or on the clapham board. Best Jay

  2. We've got another 4 places, if anyone in the SE is up for it, fully formed teams or lone wolves welcome...
  3. I agree, I love the steamborg, but being fair, he's not the best value 10ss model in the game, and to not be able to knock Ramos out of combat before getting stuck in is a bit on the harsh side
  4. Absolutely true. And if you're looking for a team, there are neverborn players in Clapham and at the Cross Gaming Club, if you post on the threads in those places you might find people to team up with. Otherwise, lone wolves welcome!
  5. Malifaux Event 12th March 2011 - The Clapham Wargamers An Intriguing Prospect. Overview Times are hard in Malifaux. The Guild are cracking down hard on any individual entrepreneurs and there’s scarcely a soul-stone to be had for gin, never mind maintaining an undead horde/army of steampunk constructs/infernal resistance against the invaders*. So the smart ones, the ones who get it, who’ve got vision, they know that the city isn’t the world and that if they’re tough, and I mean really tough, and mean, then they could maybe find somewhere outside the city, a small town perhaps, where the Guild haven’t stuck their claws in deep and they could really be somebody. The Honourable Governor General likes this idea about as much as you like the idea of taking a swim in the sewers, so he’s got his people sniffing around to make sure that it doesn’t happen. Which is why Prospect is so interesting. Prospect, as you probably know, is named after Mary-Belle Prospect, who led her Maidens’ League out of Malifaux to found a new town where the decency of all virtuous ladies wasn’t at risk just walking the streets. She found and fixed up a disused mining town about 30 miles north west of Malifaux City where rumour has it she found enough soul stones to build and protect quite a bustling community. Then the storms came and the town was cut off for months. No one’s heard of Mary-Belle Prospect since then, so the chances are that she and all her virtuous Maidens got far worse than their decency tarnished. Which means that there’s a town out there, far enough away from home to really carve out a niche for yourself, and you’re tough, you’ll survive. Won’t you? * Delete as applicable. Ambition We want to spend a day playing Malifaux with interesting people, where the games one way or another make a difference, but without it getting excessively competitive and the types of games you see in those circumstances. We want a bit of story, but not so much that the games become incomprehensible. We want games of different sizes, with different requirements. We want people to play as teams so that you can still root for your comrades in arms even if you’re not having such a lucky time yourself. Nobody used the ‘T’ word That’s T for ‘tournament’. They really didn’t. We want competitive play, but we want playful play even more. There are no rankings, no prizes (probably no prizes) except the glory of having carved out your own little bit of Prospect. There may well be some random events, but we haven’t quite worked that out yet. So don’t take it too seriously. How to enter There are three ways to enter. Each have advantages, but the advantages are not all equal because we’re trying to steer you down a certain path. Don’t worry though, nothing is out of balance and everything is still to play for. 1. Glorious Alliance. Get three friends together and enter as a team from the same faction. We’d really like that. Three masters, will give you a number of reflips which your team captain will be able to give out during the day, a small soul stone bonus and some nifty strategy allocation options in the final round. 2. Marriage of Convenience. Get three friends together and enter as a mixed faction team, you get the reflips, you get the strategy selection thing, but no soul stone bonus (don’t worry, it’s only a little bit, and hey, you’re still fighting your corner together, until you all turn on each other when the battle’s done) 3. Lone Wolf. Just you against all these teams, but you’ve got freedom of action, you won’t be held back by anyone else, you’ll survive on your wits. You get fewer reflips, but it’s up to you when you use it, and you get to choose your last round strategy. You’ll need three crew lists per master: • A 20 soul stone list. • A 30 soul stone list which incorporates your 20 ss list. • A 40 soul stone list which incorporates your 30 ss list. Within your teams you might want to think about whether you specialise in the hope of maximising in the last round, or a more general list so that you’ve got the earlier two rounds covered. And if you’re in a team you’ll need to select a team captain. This doesn’t mean that he or she will get to behave like a despot, issuing edicts and proclamations to his minions (though any Guild teams might like that sort of thing) it’s just so we have one person to go to for your allocations, reflips and other team choices on the day. How you make decisions amongst yourselves is up to you. You’ll need to give this person an appropriate title: Boss, Chairman, Generalissimo... There's a price of £6 per player to cover room hire and what have you. The precise timings for the day will be posted up in the next couple of days. If you have any questions or would like to attend, please contact us by emailing either: John_peter_shaw@hotmail.com Jdg_99@hotmail.com You can also swing by our club site (http://www.claphamwargamers.org.uk/Forum/index.php) where we'll be adding a notice board for Q&As and a saloon for you to advertise team vacancies and generally abuse the lone wolves. On the day Taking over Prospect is going to be handled in three rounds. Establish: You’ll need a base of operations, probably one for each of your crews, because you all like each other, but not, you know, that much. You’re not the living together kind of friends. Everyone’s got the same idea though, so you’ll probably have to fight someone for your spot. You’re going to advance on this one in force: It’s your 30ss list here everyone and 2 schemes into the bargain Explore: If you’ve got yourself a home-base you need to get a handle on what else is going on. If you haven’t you might need to try to find a handy bolt hole. Small is beautiful here : just your 20ss crew with just the one scheme. Expand: No matter what, you can’t just sit on your laurels, there has got to be some way you can get more powerful. Or take the wind out of some of these other guys’ sails, just so they know who’s boss. For teams you’ll need to pick the right master for the right mission, for Lone Wolves, you get to play to your strengths. It’s the big show of force you’re after so you’ll throw everything you’ve got at this, the big 40ss crew with 2 schemes. What you need to provide in advance Each player will need to provide the following by the 1st March 2011. • Entry Type: Glorious Alliance, Marriage of Convenience, Lone Wolf • About you – who are you? What’s your name? • Team – what team are you in? who with? who’s your team captain? what’s your team name? • Master and crew at each soul stone level. • Schemes – For your master you’ll need to provide a list of schemes. You’re going to select your schemes throughout the day from this list, each one can only be played once. All schemes are from the Rising Powers book. Within teams each master picks his own list and they are not transferable. You can duplicate between players, but each player can only pick each scheme once o Glorious Alliances: You can each pick 8 schemes from which to choose your 5 during the day. You can pick from the general schemes, faction schemes and master specific schemes. o Marriages of Convenience: You can pick 7 schemes from which to choose your 5 during the day. You can pick from the general schemes and master specific schemes only. o Lone Wolves: You can pick 6 schemes from which to pick your 5 during the day. You can pick from general schemes, faction schemes and master specific schemes. Special Rules: Team Reflips. Each team of three has 6 reflips which can be used to reflip one card for free. It can even be used to overrule a Black Joker. At the beginning of each round the team captain announces how many are being used and by which player. At the end of the round they are regarded as spent. WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE ACTUALLY PLAYED IN THAT GAME so try to not forget to use them. The team captain’s submission is binding. One player can play a maximum of two reflips in a game. The Lone Wolves will have 1 reflip which can be used at any time by them. They don’t have to announce it in advance, but at the end of the round where you used it, let us know. Glorious Alliances: Bonus Soul Stones. There is one bonus soul stone each round which must be allocated to one of the players by the team captain at the beginning of the round. This can be used in that game by the player in question provided it does not take him/her above the maximum soulstone cache of 8. At the end of the round it is regarded as spent. Colourful Characters. Do you see what we did there? All it means is that if you bring a fully painted crew you get a bonus soul stone every game. This cannot take you above the maximum soulstone cache of 8. You have to have your full 40ss crew painted, there are no consolation prizes if you’ve only got your 20 or 30 ss crews finished. If you haven’t painted your crew, don’t worry about it, don’t be put off, but you won’t get the bonus. What do I win? Erm... Warmth, love and a happy feeling? Who are the Clapham Wargamers? We're a group from diverse ages and backgrounds that meet up on Thursdays to play a variety of games in a light-hearted and jovial manner. Where will the tournament be held? We play at the Bread and Roses pub, located between Clapham Common and Clapham North Tube stations. Note: we play in a pub, so its over 18's only! The Bread and Roses 68 Clapham Manor Street, London, SW4 6DZ ( t ) 020 7498 1779 http://www.breadandrosespub.com Nearest Tubes: From Clapham North, walk down the highstreet towards clapham common, then walk straight down Clapham Manor street on the right. From Clapham Common, keep on the same side of the road as starbucks (left side of the road) and walk towards clapham north, taking a left onto Clapham manor street.
  6. I'm also struggling a little with Ramos against high speed, close combat crews. Actually, not even the crews, rather the masters themselves. Having McMourning or Lady Justice runnings straight towards you leaves you a little vulnerable. In both cases I'm rather reduced to using whatever I have to intercept them, which usually results in them being dead (and of course McMourning then back to full wounds) but maybe have soaked up enough soul-stones in defensive flips to enable ramos to take them down with electrical fire, or spider bombs, but then I'm left with pretty much only the old man against my opponant's entire crew. Which means I rarely get my schemes/strategy, and lose badly. I do pretty well against less directly aggressive masters, so any tips would be helpful...
  7. Since it's my Ramos crew playing Thomas on Sunday, tell him he can't! Tell him he can't damn you all! ;-)
  8. I've been trying for about an hour to get them. They keep getting about 1-2mb in and crashing. I've tried it with both firefox and ie8 and nothing doing. I've also tried clicking and saving link rather than opening but the same problem occurs. Oh please Wyrd, don't tell me I'm being excluded!
  9. thanks Wombats, thats' really interesting. i had a look, I've already glued and undercoated my crew, but for my next one I'll definitely do more stuff with the bases...
  10. Hey, Thought it was polite to introduce myself. I'm Jay. Hello. There. I picked up a copy of the Malifaux rulebook from my local gaming store having heard the interview with the guys on the D6 Gen podcast since I was looking for something to take up my gaming time having fallen out of love with warhammer fantasy after 20 years. Warhammer Ancients is doing the job for me for the army scale game, but I needed something to appeal to the fantasy side and Malifaux certainly does that! I got myself the Ramos starter pack, persuaded 5 friends to also invest and played my first game of malifaux before christmas and loved it. Now got a huge list of extra stuff to get for my crew, including about a million steampunk arachnids. That's it. Jay
