  1. Nathan mentioned that he was already working on the next book, any teasers as to what might be in it? how do you come up with your concepts?
  2. And if you have sebastian, he can gather parts that first turn, and next turn give you a new dog to dissect! with the 6 bp from that dog, you will have 2 bp left over from creating two flesh constructs, which which sebastian can make ANOTHER dog the next turn, and you can repeat the whole process over again. so McM + Sebastian could theoretically create 3 flesh constructs out of one dog... I don't know if that would ACTUALLY work due to the difficulty of getting off Monstrous creation, and it's half the game standing around making constructs... probably not the wisest thing to do in the grand scheme of things. But 21 ss off one 2 ss dog, that's money right there.
  3. Actually, I forgot, when you kill the canine remains, it also creates a corpse token, which you can turn into two more bodyparts, so from one canine remains, you can generate 6 bp tokens, which is enough to make a flesh construct right there. just you will still probably need to spend a ss to get the spell off, but that's still a net gain of 4 ss. if you can spend the time to do that in the first two turns, you can turn 2 canine remains into flesh constructs and go to town. or you could keep the bodypart tokens and use them to fuel "passion for his work". 6 bp tokens are enough to make McM fast for the rest of the game.
  4. true, true. you can really use anything you want for this trick, I picked ice constructs because they shatter, doing more damage. But molemen would be a perfectly good choice for a lightning rod for your blasts.
  5. there is also attacking your own ice golem for fun and profit. get your ice golem in BtoB with an enemy you don't like (easier said than done), and cast december's curse ON the Ice golem 3 times. With his def of 2 you are likely to get and extra :mali+flip on the damage roll, giving you a better chance of getting more blasts to hit the enemy with. with armor 2 he will die after 3 full damage december's curses (assuming you do severe damage, which is relatively likely-ish if you also have essence of power giving you :mali+flip :mali+flip) and then shatter for 3 more damage to your opponents. if you do severe damage each time, that is 6 4 dm blasts and a 3 dm shatter.... I'd say that's worth the death of an Ice golem. if not, well, the golem is still alive and raring to go another round. this can also be done with gamin, but they won't survive more than two december's curses.
  6. I am ambivalent towards them. I played Warmachine 'cause I think jacks are cool, and the new Retribution Jacks look like gizmoduck.
  7. If you can proxy a Canine remains, you can try this trick before the game turn one SS into a corpse counter -> 2 bod part counters 1st turn Mcmorning casts wracked with pain on the canine remains, gains one body part, then casts Dissection on the same canine remains for 3 bodypart counters (cheating a low card for the damage flip, you only need to do one wound to kill the dog, you don't want to do severe damage and end your turn), with the 6 bodypart counters you now have, summon a Flesh construct (you may have to spend a soulstone to do this)- a 7 SS creature for killing a 2 ss creature (spending 2 ss also though, but those are from his cache)! it would be cheese, except that is what McM seems to be designed to do... he doesn't have the buffs/spells of awesomeness of nico, nor the damage/hard to wound of seamus. he can do alot of damage, but he needs to be in close, and with a def of 4... well... not even 12 wds are going to let him last long. a few extra flesh constructs SHOULD even him up though... MUAHAHAHA!
  8. what also excites me about using the card system rather than a typical dice-based system is the MULTITUDE of ways you can add bonuses or negatives to a flip. for example, a stealth filp. a stealthy character could have "Hard to notice: 1" all duels to notice this character receive a :mali-flip Or "Stealthy: 1" this character recives :mali+flip to all duels not to be noticed Or a Stealth: 1 which simply adds one to the attribute when in a stealth/notice duel. You could also have spells that give the oppnent or yourself negatives or bonuses to the duel. like Cloak of shadows 13 :malimasks Rst - rg: C this character recives +2 to all stealth duels. so a real master at stealth could have varying degrees of each to show how stealthy the character is.
  9. What about running This Hikoma list at 30ss? Rasputina 3 Hoarcat prides Sabertusk Myranda Myranda has a MUCH easier time casting roar, while the sabertusk (with companion) moves forward and smells fear. Myranda then casts roar (on a 8+ rather than 11+) and the saber tusk charges what ever you want to kill. Rasputina then kamehameha's a non engaged enemy with december's curse as a falling back enemy is :mali-fate to all duels, making it much easier to get the spells into them.
  10. another option might be to Focus. I don't know for sure, but I think that focus might give you a :mali+fate on the WP duel Also, Misakl has a great chance of beating Pandora in a duel with her "foresight" ability.
  11. yup store is up, just bought a coloring book for my 10 year old!
  12. Classes tend to limit your options, rather than expand them IMHO.
  13. ok, but it is still unfortunate that when I tried to show the proprietor of my FLGS the site, the store was still down. I'm gonna go again tomorrow with book, and figs in tow, and if the store is up tomorrow, then I will have a much easier time convincing him that running demos would be a grand idea. Also I need people to play with!!!!!
  14. yeah, it's unfortunate, I was talking to the owner of my FLGS and was talking up Malifaux, but he went on the website to try and see the store, to see if he could get the minis from his distributor, but the store was down. I took him to the warstore, but they didn't have the Boxed sets, and he was unconvinced that there even were boxed sets, and he doesn't want me to run Demos without the knowledge that he can order the boxed sets. Hopefully the store will be open again soon, so I can convince him that boxed sets do indeed exist, he can get them, and I can start running demos.
  15. no, people do not do this. There IS a hobocon, but to my knowledge no one rides the rails to it. Hobocon also seems to be rather small, lik 30-40 people small.... Stab the hobo first, I guess I'm sure that other modes of transportation have lessened the need for thugs working for the train companies, but I'm sure it's possible. I assume no place in heaven or earth smell worse than the people at gen con.
  16. I personally believe that the Wyrd system is a very elegant one that could easily support a simple, quick combat system. Now bear in mind that quick systems are necessarily brutal, but that can be avoided for PC's with the use of soulstones (which is why I think that PC's should be Masters, not Minions). The best way to make a simple quick system with the card mechanic, IMO is to ditch wd values and wds done by weapons… hold on, don’t leave me now, come along for the ride. A damage flip of 1-5 (weak damage) inflicts a moderate wound. The damage is severe enough for the character to take notice, a bone might be fractured, and it is generally extremely difficult to do anything, -2 to all values until healed. If the character suffers another moderate wound, this wound is upgraded to severe, rather than suffering two moderate wounds A damage flip of 6-10 (moderate damage) inflicts a severe wound. The wounds are terrible and dangerous, blood pours from the wounds, and bones are typically fractures in several placed. If the character takes another severe wound, this wound is upgraded to mortal, rather than suffering two severe wounds A damage flip of 11-15 (severe damage) inflicts a mortal wound. The character drops to the ground bleeding profusely either internally or externally, if left in this condition without medical help the character will die. Make a wp->10 duel to keep from dying on the character’s next turn or subsequent turns until the character is stabilized. If this character suffered another mortal wound, she is killed. A damage flip of 16+ inflicts instant death. The character is instantly killed, her head or vital organs vanish in a red mist. If this character suffers another instant death wound, someone obviously does not understand what instant death means. Weapons, instead of having a damage code (weak/mod/sev), add to the card number of the damage flip. So a weapon with a +2 damage would add 2 to the card number, and that modified number would determine the wound inflicted. Note that most weapons, except magical or otherwise powerful weapons like guns, would probably have a negative modifier to the damage flip. An easy conversion to what I am thinking is subtract 4 from the severe damage of a weapon in Malifaux, and that is it’s damage modifier in the RP system. Likewise armor reduces the number of the damage flip, so an armor of 2 wound subtract 2 from the card flipped, and that modified number would determine the wound inflicted. Hard to wound acts as normal Hard to kill reduces a mortal or instant death wound by one step, automatically, so against this character 11-15 would inflict a serious wound, and 16+ would inflict a mortal wound. This does not stop two severe wounds becoming a mortal wound. Slow to die comes into play after either a mortal wound or instant death. DAMAGE EXAMPLE Fry Pan Jack, a guild investigator is poking is nose in where it don’t belong, and stumble across a steamborg that he does not recognize from guild reports on the arcanist terrorists. It’s chassis is of a small train, with a curious method of laying it’s own tracks before it, but the humanoid body on the chassis carries a massive cleaver of rusted iron, as the steamborg fixes it’s baleful gaze on Fry Pan. Fry Pan wins initiative, and attempts to put a bullet in the brain of that steamborg. He wins the attack duel, and flips for damage, he flips a 10 : malirams Now Fry Pan’s peacemaker is a deadly weapon, capable of dropping a Sabertusk at 50 yards, and has a damage bonus of +1, giving the total to be 11, a mortal wound. But the steamborg is fitted with armored boilerplate and has an armor vale of 3, dropping the total to 8, a sever wound… not enough to drop it, and Fry Pan does NOT want to be on the receiving end of that cleaver So Fry Pan cheats and puts down a 13 : malicrows bringing his total to 11, and puts his bullet right between the eyes of the monster, dropping it to the ground in a heap. Now this system is indeed brutal, and makes combat very dangerous for player characters, which is again why I believe players should play soulstone users, so that they have a better chance of surviving to keep playing the game Healing flips A black joker heals no damage A healing flip of 1-5 reduces the wound level by 1 A healing flip of 5-10 reduces the wound level by 2 A healing flip of 11 + reduces the wound level by 3 A red joker heals all damage SOULSTONE USE EXAMPLE Unfortunately for our man Fry Pan, the Steamborg has one last trick up it’s metal and flesh sleeve, he is Slow to die. He activates his Self destruct Spell, and makes the casting flip. Fry Pan fails to win the casting duel, and is hit by the blast wave of exploding steamborg that does an IMPRESSIVE and scary +4 Damage. Fry pan is not wearing armor, nor is hard to wound, so he takes the full damage. The steamborg gets lucky on the damage flip and pulls a 12 :malitomes and it looks like our man Fry Pan is going to that big Rock Candy mountain (this flip+4 will inflict instant death on Fry Pan (16)), but he is a soulstone user, and opts to use his soulstone to absorb some of the damage. He makes a healing flip, and flips a 7 :malitomes This reduces the damage from instant death to a sever wound. Fry Pan is not doing at all well, but he is alive, and can inform his guild compatriots of the Arcanist strength in this area. This is all off the top of my head, and would necessarily change in development, but it serves as an example of how the current system could EASILY perform the “simple quick combat system” that Redstripe prefers while staying consistent with the awesome system of malifaux. Sorry for the long post…. I’m a rules monkey (even though I like role playing better than rollplaying [flipplaying]). I’ll shut up now…
  17. why would you want to play a minion? No class, instead choose a preferred suit. stats allocation should absolutely be points based, with other points going towards skills, Spells, abilities, and adding a suit to a skill or stat. No need to choose a faction, though buying an allegiance to a faction with points would have a definite mechanical benefit.
  18. I am, however, excited to see models in the future with "gravedigger" who CAN search for corpse counters. I figure that they will be relatively expensive (6+ss) so as not to have the 6 dogs+nico=7 corpse counters a turn madness
  19. Ok, while researching the prospect of riding the rails to Hobo con next year, I came upon this site that had the names of buried Hobos, and I thought I should post it here for an AWESOME way to name some of the unnamed characters, like the convict gunner. http://www.hobo.com/westbound.htm BTW apperantly "Catching the Westbound" is, in hobo parlance, a euphamisim for dying, which I thought might be another neat addition to malifaux, especially is the Malifaux Railroad went west though the breach.
  20. Well, it also allows Nico to use undead as a "lightning rod" for blasts from decay. You can doublewalk a cheap undead (like a canin remains) in btb of a hard to hit enemy (like lillith), then cast 3 decays on the canine remains, who willingly fails the wp duel to resist, then hit the hard to hit model with all the blasts, who takes damage with no duel. then a totem can even do it a fourth time with magical extension. now will you logically get all these spells off? maybe... but you might not always flip blast damage... I certainly don't think it is an AUTOWIN, but it is certainly effective. Heck that wouldn't even let pandora shunt the damage with martyr, nor force nico to engage in a WP duel. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing, but it IS allowed by that interpretation.
  21. yeah, sacrificing a 5 point model to bring in a 10 point model seems kinda wasteful... and what if the ronin is kiled before you sac her? then you have to kill a 7 or 10 point model to bring in another 10 point model... I just don't know about that.... what about just bringing in 2 more ronin? viks+bishop+misaki+3 ronins=a hard melee fightin' crew.
  22. I think calling the ability to create a (logically) infinite number of models and stacking a perfect hand "strategic" is kind of like putting a string of pearls on a pig and calling her your wife. Sure, you can punch anyone in the mouth who says differently, but it still doesn't change the fact that she's a pig.
  23. :ditto: the very fact that it has the Dg table on it makes me believe that you do a damage filp regardless, but any undead hit heal two wounds instead of suffering the damage flip (what every that was). the damage flip is part of the spell, not to be discounted, just certain models ignore it and receive a different effect.
  24. We are the hollow men We are the stuffed men Leaning together Headpiece filled with straw. Alas! Our dried voices, when We whisper together Are quiet and meaningless As wind in dry grass Or rats’ feet over broken glass In our dry cellar
  25. Also, don't pick on them. if you are running 8 tts against someone with a box ramos list, they are going to get discouraged. run the Lilith box against them (or any other starter box), maybe you won't win as much at first, but it will help them learn and want to pick up more models. That will make them better players with better lists (and are better at cheating) and THEN you can run the TT list o doom!
