  1. I thought the ACE of MASKS trick worked at first too. Wrong. Read the rule for ACE IN THE HOLE: When an ace from this crew's deck would be placed in the discard pile during another friendly model's activation...... The ace you play from your hand is fine and dandy BUT it is played from the HAND and NOT the DECK so does not recirculate. Pretty straight forward but tons of people play this wrong.
  2. I started Malifaux at launch at GENCON a while back. Wife and 4 boys later I have had little time to keep up on the forums or reading. Back playing weekly and the wife wants to read some story and background. I had books 1-2 but can't seem to find them. Can you peeps help a brutha out? What is the best way to get the story? (is it in one book? should I buy all 4 over again?) I bought all the Jakob Lynch stuff having played Arcanists for some time. What Chrinicles and what books would I find this story? Any links or direct info (or info on future releases) would be appreciated. BIG THANK YOU TO ANY WHO HELP. .....a man who has a wife into his hobby is lucky indeed

  4. Just getting back into Malifaux after kids and house stuff has pulled me for some times..... Need some "here's you answer dummy" responses..... Does anyone understand this? •Spells with the gun icon take the modifier for cover, ranged attacks, Casting Flips and spells, never Attack Flips Since there is a comma and not a period after "ranged attacks" it seems that they are speaking only about gun icon attacks in reference to the things that followed in the sentance. I don't get this.....help ? Also.....tell me what this means..... "This model may not be targeted by Charge or ranged attacks (Grotto-no icon) until it takes an Action other than Pass." Does this mean anything with a gun icon OR anything with a Rg/Range listed in the attack OR does it cover both? The intention of the ability (December Acolyte) is to allow advancedeploy of 12" without getting smoked on turn1/immediately. Thanks guys!

  6. I agree. One of my favorite things in MAli is that the Oucasts/Mercs/Dogs of War are actually fully supporteda and are a REAL army selection
  7. See, moparjim gets it. If you go for it 3 castings worth with two high masks in hand and SS everytime you can increase your odds tremendously of getting OP. Flip first, bonus if high, extra bonus if mask. -Settle and hope for mask on SS -Cheat mask and still SS to hurt enemy def odds Crap flip up fron -Cheap mask or high and hope for mask on SS I would say I average out to 5 casts on 3 AP and nearly 6 casts if Masks in hand. Mask=1/4, high cards 10+=1/4 Its not bad odds
  8. Hmmm, happens a lot for me.....and I play at 40ss level a lot so there are more models. Maybe thats why, there are less models to have to spend good cards on in your 30-35ss games so it is tougher to pull off DC with Overpower.
  9. No, you are not, but LOS and cover are two different things. New rules tweak allows models to be behind white out/steam vent and it blocks LOS. Thats not that easy. This is why I am the aggressor with her. NO WAY. I can usually pull off 2-4 SEVEREs, then cast again, and sometimes again if I stood still or used Ice mirror. Keep 9+of masks in your hand and use a SS on each cast no matter what, this will hit your target (indirect on dita or even straight dita unless they spill a high card and ss too) and nail her too. With such a high cast you have a good shot at 11+ and no problem with Essence around. I have had Dec. Curse go off on 1 cast through ice mirror with 0 masks in my hand 4 straight times. SS =1/4 shot to get Overpower. I can't tell you how many times I ran out of death to lay down because my opponent wouldn't stand up. (its kinda sad astually, then you realize that was one AP and you have 1-2 more targets to choose. You do realize that when using templates they touch each other in any way and then one has to simply touch the base edge of the original target right?
  10. At the OP, look at my other posts on Raspy through out time. At the Viking, "Perdita is a rough match for Raspy in general" incorrect she is a tough match for everyone in general. She is argueably the best master (argueably...lilith and nicodem are up there). Other than that.....I have played Lordfishane and his crew a ton, I have had the better of him through out time. That is until this past weekedn at a Tourney and he got me and finished 2nd by 1VP. He picked up this game faster than anyone I know and is a good player. That being said there are three ways to engage Perdita and her crew......by melee monsters like Joss, Johan, Cerebus, and Marcus (yes I play 2 master games), by Decembers Curse and Ice Burst Strike, and Ice constructs or Ramos and nids/gamin bursts. Obviously melee tie ups are great versus the ranged natiness her and the gang present. Dec. Curse with a high mask and a SS on top and continually tagging.....someone around her that has lots 8+HP can wring her bell. She will soak 4/8 if you do it right. (lets not bring SS protection into this as a goal should be to suck her SS dry anyway). Then when one target is killed and therefore out of Overpower cast it again and lay the templates over her and repeat. Icy Burst isn't as nasty but late in the turn when cards are low it can do damage indirectly. (all of the above is indirect which cannot be avoided) the same idirect damage can be done with ice constructs or ramos and his deal. Ice mirror should be avoided vs Perdita. Don't forget Quick Draw (name?) is a "0". So you know when it is up, and it shoudln't kill you anyway with SS and Dec Touch available (totem casts). As was said earlier, you can try defensive Pillars and White out......depends on what your opponent is going for......in my experience versus Perdita you slap her around before she does it to you.

  13. So ya your list is fine. I have the same boxes. ABSOLUTELY get at least 3 hoarcats, they work great with both lists and are very self sufficient. OTHERS TO CONSIDER: Everyone will telly you to get the Gunslinger as he is a terrific all around model but I find myself playing with him less and less. The Ronin is FANTASTIC, he is really nasty to quick strike in a Joss/Marcus list, and his rules are amazing and throw in the fact he can kill himself to give you SS when you really need it he is a must (I have my own model). I prefer the Wendigo if you plan on Tourneys but Essence is fanstastic too. Johan and Masaki should be considered. I have lots of posts on Marcus and Raspy, search
  14. Decembers Curse is one of the nastiest spells in the game and it is mostly due to the fact that it may trigger Overpower. Target a low DEF high WD model and you will be able to hit it multiple times (with or without ice mirror) as you should be getting a mask out every time via flip, cheat, or when soulstoneing. I can't tell you how many times I had no cheats but soulstoned a mask (one time 3 in a row). When you are going for Raspys alpha (3+Decembers Curse while pushing for 2 plumes) you should be rocking your highest car with a mask prefferably and SS to force a neurtal or positive flip to pull off the plumes. I have killed 3 major Guild members in one turn before. Essence is deffinately nice but I prefer the Wendigo vs muliple opponents for Ice Heart , melee ability, and graverobber (also a spell like the rest). I don't even HAVE to use ice mirror but sometimes OPT to depending on my opponents army. Run her with 6-8 ss and you will do wonders. I have had tremendous success with her in lists with lots of low ss models to over-activate my opponent and draw cards out. I have a all HT 1 list that tend to blow up or chew up my opponent. Just keep playing her, I struggled at first too (10 losses 3 wins) And always remember its all about the VPs
  15. I beat the crap out of my cards and they have all kinds of marks. Thing is....if I memorized that it would be cheating! I never look at the things unless they are being played.
  16. Keep your cats back and send Marcus at as many Guild as possible to tie them up. Then bring up the cats which will then be at full potential. I always take 3 which works out well (40ss). Even if you only have two and each with 1 hp in 3" you can still get a 19 DEVOUR with a 13 of crows which swallows most all models reguardless of Joker.
  17. Target other models with Dec Curse and send the templates her way. Eat throught the enemies SS and whittle away with damage will still kill Sonnia. Using models that close the gap are great versu her, cerberus, snake, and joss (marcus too of course). Dec Curse can always reach full potential with high cards, ss, and maybe even bite chill thrown in.
  18. Lots of people whine about him. He rocks versus Guild as he closes in SO quickly. He tends not to help his gang unless he attacked mutiple models (beasting them) then using his (negative flips) stare down. Usually he is doing everything on his own and using Wild Heart to the best, beating 1-2 models down, and either using the extra "0"ap to strike again or companion a beast to the fight. I also think he is our best Strategy winner as he is uber fast (fastest in the game). Without FAST he has a melee threat range of 26" (2+heart abilities: 8+8+8charge+2 reach). This helps him steal treasure in a heart beat or get to spots to claim. Problem is people do not stricly focus on his own abilities of self preservation. He can use up to 8ss, cast a healing spell twice, use all kinds of tricks with Wild Heart, and ranged/charges can be deffered to another beast in 3". He has one spell to make something a beast and another (ap2) that activiates/reactivates an enemy model which could be an extremely powerful spell if pulled off as that model cannot activate again that turn. The problem is that getting something to be a "beast" AND casting that spell requires you to burn two high cards and likely burn two soul stones. I love him, especially with a cerberus, some hoarcats, and maybe a snake. Molemen seem to make a ton of sense with his damage transfer and their ARM but they are way too slow. It can be done if you have the patience and Marcus will pobably have to burn some stones along the way. Marcus deals moderate damage with his abilities and can kill two models in one turn but make sure you never lose focus to heal him.
  19. Excellent observations. Totally agree with Slaughter and never want to play it. In a tourney I am running coming up I removed Slaughter entirely, only used three current and created one strategy. In this tourney form I am having both players go after the same strategy. I also tweaked some of the schemes a bit. This can be read in the Tourney Topics area exactly what I did.
  20. My opinion is below. The extra 5ss is a big deal for real VP oriented gaming instead of a kill all. This game is meant to be decided by VPs ,sometimes kill all, and 25-35ss ends up being more kill all 50+ percent of the time. I have played lots at 35 and just feel 40 is more balanced but 45 is a bit much oddly as it is last stage until 2 masters. I really think that this game shines when you play a little bigger than what most people are sorta creating the standard game to be....30-35 ss. I think this game is best played and best balanced at 40ss and up. I feel that is when all the schemes and strategies become achievable/stoppable and none are too easy/hard. It also provides more fun interacting as opposed to the smaller game of 30-35ss. I like the higher range of One master games and actually play one master up to 50ss. I have played two master games and find them extremely fun and all should give it a go. I plan to use One master in a Two master game next time for fun and see what the extra 10ss can get me.
