Morf: For what it's worth, I think you've done the wrong thing (specifically) for the right reason - interesting quandry though for my ethics.
Artificial exclusivity always bugs me (from micro to macro it's exactly the same thing, different only in scale) but rewarding the true fans and your line about some things not being available for money only, made me cheer!
I've read the details of the Herald programme and all of the posts on TNG (a place I hate going) before commenting. Perhaps if you changed the requirements for becoming a Herald, the problem would be solved to everyone's satisfaction - great flexibility in the programme itself though and kudos for that!
Though I'm glad to see so many people on TNG being against LE minis, it would have been better if they'd found out the relevant details before commenting and it's notable that the comments only seem to come out in force against a small company - that servile power worship you see everywhere these days: if it's big and powerful you can't criticise it (but save up the resentment and put the boot into the little guy first chance you get)*....:puke:
I'd mention to some of your defenders that 'well, everyone else does it' is not any ethical defence whatsoever! Anyway, it's your call and your business; and like I say, you've shown that your heart's really in the right place, so cool. You've shown a lot of imagination and creativity in what you've done and I hope you can focus some of that on resolving this: you actually can please pretty much everyone with this if you're nimble in your thinking.
I suspect you won't but if you'd like some actual, categorical suggestions about this then feel free to pm me (I'm not just a theorist and will happily help whatever I see is deserving of help).
*EDIT: Oversimplification obviously and yes, there are other dynamics in play....
