  1. Hi people! I've now added the fantasy Pirates online. Including the Giant! We've got in some more stock since Salute but judging by the response there's a chance they could sell out again quickly. So the new stuff is: Orc Admiral £5.00 Orcs (3 figures) £7.50 Goblin Pirates (5 figures) £7.50 Dwarf Captain £3.00 Dwarf pirates (4 figures) £6.50 Dwarf Rogues (4 figures) £6.50 Giant! £50.00 Visit http://www.blackscorpionminiatures.com/range.asp?the_range=FPI to see the whole range and order. More pics of the Giant available on the gallery under this range. (All orders of £50 or more go post free worldwide!) Hope you like them!
  2. Black Scorpion ‘sculpt a critter’ competition! (End date May 5th.) I’m always wanting to add to the Alien range but never get around to it! It’s actually one of my favourite ranges even though it’s very small. The next thing they need is definitely some little Critter aliens! You know the type, the little annoying things that scuttle around in their hundreds and are easy to kill. They don't carry weapons and generally attack with claws or teeth! So what better way than a FOD competition! Well, competition in a sense.. I’m looking for 4-5 Critters. There will be no strict 1st. 2nd etc... The winners will be the ones I choose to release in the pack. So the idea is simple. Sculpt a little Critter to go with our Alien range. Let your imagination go wild. The only real guideline is that they should be small. This is difficult as I don’t want to restrict too much.. Think around the 15mm mark. Maybe your Critter has a long tail or horn which is fine. Again this is flexible, maybe the Critter is flat and long or skinny and tall. Just as long as the overall look is of a small critter like alien. For each Critter we use we will pay you £60.00. You will also receive a pack of the Critters with all the winning entries in. Who can enter? Anyone. Can I enter more than once? Yes, as many times as you like- that doesn’t mean we’ll buy them all though! Do they have to ‘look like’ the current aliens?: Nope. We encourage entrants to show their work and WIP on the Forum of doom. There’s no strict ‘winner’ so I will give advice and answer any questions as we go. After all, what we’re all after is a great pack of Critters! Materials: Green stuff is preferred. Brown stuff, procreate and Milliput are also fine. Fimo, sculpy or any other oven bake clays can not be used I’m afraid. The Figure should have a wire armature to withstand the moulding process. The design must be your work and not use anyone else’s miniatures, I.P or copyrighted material. If we buy the figure we then own it. All rights both creative and physical belong to us. By entering you agree to this. We will sell the Critters in a pack in our ‘Alien’ range. We reserve the right to make changes to your figure as we see fit. Payment, UK will be via cheque or Paypal. Overseas by paypal only . Tag: The figure will end up with a tag on but we will add this on. How to enter: Email your entry with a few good pictures to blackscorpionminiatures@googlemail.com we will reply to say we’ve received your entry. If we don’t, please let us know in case the email didn’t reach us! Try to have one picture next to a ruler. Be sure to include your name and address. Don’t send us the figure unless we ask you to do so. Closing date: May 5th. Current aliens:

  8. Hi, people! For a while, I've been meaning to have a place to put all the old workbench photos. So we've added a company profile page for Black Scorpion to Facebook. Mainly it will show all the archived Black Scorpion greens, but there's also some other photos up there (such as some of my early work for Games Workshop and Privateer Press). We're constantly adding more, as I didn't realise there were so many! So to see the archives, go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/Black-Scorpion-miniatures/43404548975 and click on 'become a fan', if you want to keep track of the updates we put up, or add any of your own pics of Black Scorpion miniatures. Cheers!

  13. Black Scorpion painting competition 2008! * The second ‘Golden Chef awards’* * Closing date: May 1st 2008. The first golden Chef awards were a great success last year, the quality of painting was outstanding so we’re repeating it this year with some small improvements. The basic idea is the same, paint any Black Scorpion single figure with the limited ‘resin trophy chef’ figure for the top 3 not to mention £100 cash first place amongst other prizes! Entry is simply photos via email and is free. The main difference is there is a new category. I’m concerned that the standard of last year (the likes of Jakob Nielsen getting second and Martin Footitt -GW sculptor, painter, who also won this years golden demon open category- winning the top prize) would put some people off. So the main category is called ‘The Open’, it’s the same as last year where the trophy chefs and money is to be won. The other category is called ‘The Minor’. The minor has lesser prizes given in product. To enter the minor you need to have never won anything in any painting competition either online or otherwise, this includes 2nd, 3rd place or an award of any sort. I reserve the right to move entries from the minor to the open. This category is aimed at beginners or up and coming painters. So if you got a commended in last years golden chef for example you can’t enter the minor. For last years winners and entries visit here: http://heresyminiatures.com/forumofdoom/index.php?topic=6203.0 So break out the lucky paintbrush and here’s the specifics: Want to know how you can win one of these, £100 cash and other prizes..? Ok, listen carefully I shall say this only once..* * The second Black Scorpion miniatures painting competition is upon us! the second ‘Golden Chef’ awards. The ‘Trophy Chef’ figure has been specially made for this competition. Cast in resin it will never be released and only 3 will be awarded for this years competition: 1st 2nd and 3rd resin trophies. *Also, the overall winner will receive a £100 cash prize. (you will need to have a paypal account to claim this or live in the UK to receive a cheque.) Full prize list: Open category. *1st place: Golden Chef and £100 cash. *2nd place: Silver Chef and £50 worth of Black Scorpion product. *3rd place: Bronze chef and £30 worth of Black Scorpion product. Minor category: 1st place: £30 worth of Black Scorpion product 2nd place: £20 of product. 3rd place : £10 of product. Commended entries: *Free figures to commended entries: These are for entries that whilst not quite in the top 3 show something that’s great. It may be a great base or bit of freehand painting. It’s designed to encourage painters with less experience to enter and not feel let down if they’ve done great work but lost out to the big boys! The free figure will be from the Black Scorpion range and there are no set number of these to be awarded. There will be 'highly commended' and 'commended' although the prize is the same. * The Competition: (see below for full rules and guidelines) * The winner will be the best painted Black Scorpion miniature- simple! You may enter any single figure from the Black Scorpion range, things like Grongoid and the biker count as a single figure. This is not a competition for dioramas or multiple figures, it’s about painting excellence on a single figure. Only 1 entry per person. It must be a ‘new’ paintjob. I.e not something previously seen on the web and it must be all your own work. Obviously digitally enhancing your photos is not allowed. The competition will be judged by Adam Clarke- sculptor and painter of Black Scorpion miniatures. Closing date: May 1st 2008. How to enter: To enter you need to email photos of your entry to blackscorpionminiatures@googlemail.com* in JPG format (not mail@blackscorpionminiatures.com although we can be contacted here). Also, your name, address, email and paypal email. Tell us whether you’re entering the Open or the Minor. We will send a reply to acknowledge we’ve received your entry. You cannot enter by sending your figure in the post so please don’t do this! Forum of Doom: This competition will be running on the Forum of doom* http://heresyminiatures.com/forumofdoom/index.php and this is a good place to share ideas, ask questions or even show your work in progress if you like! There’s no rule against this. Check out the Black Scorpion sections and the competition section. Ask anything here and Mirlo (the judge) will answer it for all to see. You can always email blackscorpionminiatures@googlemail.com or PM Mirlo if you secretive about your entry etc..! All entries will be shown on the Forum of Doom stating their award etc not long after the closing date and judging is complete. Judges comments will be made where appropriate. Who can enter?* Anyone can enter from anywhere in the world. So get painting and may the best painter win!* * Rules/ terms and conditions: The figure must be a Black Scorpion miniature painted by yourself. Conversions are allowed, you can even use small parts from other manufacturers as long as the finished result is still clearly a Black Scorpion miniature. Single figure means one base with one clear main character, so yes he could have a small familiar, crow or similar and still count as a single figure. (the biker counts as one figure even with both riders on) By entering you agree that Black Scorpion miniatures may use the photos of your entry in any way it sees fit. The ‘Trophy Chef’ figure remains copyright Black Scorpion miniatures and may not be reproduced in any way. The judges decision is final, bribes will be accepted but have no bearing on the results. The judge reserves the right to disqualify any entry. Basic photo editing is allowed for you to submit your photos, any alteration that improves or changes the quality of the paintjob is not allowed , i.e photoshopping.. It is up to you to take photos that do your entry justice. You will find tutorials and help on the Forum of Doom to help with this if you need. Your entry must be a new paintjob, not something previously seen on the web. Prizes: All prizes will be sent to the winners within a timely manner. The first prize of £100 will be sent to UK winners by cheque or paypal and only by paypal to a winner outside the UK. If you live outside the UK and don’t have access to Paypal you will have to claim £100 worth of Black Scorpion goods instead of the cash prize. Any deductions made by Paypal will come out of your £100 prize. The £100 prize winner can of course opt for product instead of cash. Closing date: You have until 1st May 2008 to submit your photos. To allow for time zones last minute submissions will be accepted on the morning of 2nd May UK time. The Judge reserves the right to move an entry from the minor to the open even if it meets the criteria to enter the minor- you should take this as a compliment. The book ‘Legends of the high seas’ is not available to be given as product prize. Miniatures only. By entering you agree to these terms and conditions. Guidelines and FAQ: Genre: You do not need to keep within the genre of the original figure. Why not convert a cowboy into a sci-fi figure? imagination and ideas are welcome. Bases- plinths and decorative scenic bases are allowed and welcomed. The base will be a factor in the judging though the quality of painting is the main one. Be careful not to ‘drown’ the figure amongst a huge base though! What’s the judge looking for? The best painted figure. Quality above all. Conversions, ideas and a dynamic composition can all help (or hinder) your chances, but there’s no substitute for good painting. Can I scratchbuild something in the style of Black Scorpion? No. The figure must be based on an original figure. www.blackscorpionminiatures.com
