  1. well aint I a lucky old orkydave, she was one of my Total testosterone prizes!!! Rather than a cowgirl I am going to paint her up like a hot foxy gothic chick with purple hair!
  2. If your CMON posts are anything to go by, then sanity went out of the window long ago, that leaves painting my friend!!!
  3. These are great!!! Looks like a great weekend! Some pictures of Davecon will follow soon!
  4. I am really REALLY sorry to hear this Michelle, and gutted for you. I am sure this has crossed your mind, but it may be worth keeping a very close eye on ebay sales for the next few weeks, and if any pop up contact ebay and see if anything can be done (I know in the UK the police sometimes use Ebay to find stolen goods). Other than that, just try and keep an eye on as many mini forums as possible in the hope that whoever found them feels compelled to share their good fortune with others. I will certainly keep an eye open for you.
  5. Wow, a bit of lego hey! People find the coolest things in the strangest of places. It would be a shame if toy didn't use this, as it suits the model really well and also goes with the tribal theme that you have set with the base and pygmy. Although I am not 100% sure, I am fairy certain that someone won a demon using a Starwars toy as a base!!! It was in the UK competition in 2003 I believe. The piece was either diorama or open, and it was called Eldar Exodites. Had a few 54mm Eldar on a scenic base, and a pregnant female eldar sat upon one of those creature things that Jar Jar Binks race rode to war on in Starwars episode 1. My younger brother had the same toy, this guy just sculpted some bits on and won a demon. I have actualy used a bit of technic lego for my 40k monster (will get pics up shortly), and I have no problems doing so. As for that bit about copyright laws, that doesn't add up to me- I could take a picture of you, and I would own the copyright to that picture- its free to do what I want with. If GW took a photo of some lego then GW would own the copyright of the photo, not lego. I also would use it if the entry was mine, as the scource is that obscure I doubt it would get picked up on. The majority of the mini is still a citadel miniature with a simple weapon swap. The weapon still fits the GW universe and IP. Its not as if you are trying to enter a Rackham dwarf or Heresey Demon. Just my tuppence worth. Had a look on the website, and there is nothing to say it can't be done, but also nothing to say it can. If the entry was mine, I would honestly go for it, but if you want to play it absolutley 100% safe then don't. Will send the weapone regardless so you have some options open to you.
  6. Cheers for the PM, here is a photo of what I will be sending on Monday, hope something will be suitable!
  7. I am sure you would rather honest feedback than friendly backslapping, and my thoughts are ditch that hammer- its really REALLY letting down an otherwise loveley mini. I have a few of the GW giant clubs in my bits box - one with the dragon skull head and another one where a load of swords and axes have been pushed through to make the club head, and I feel both would do your piece justice more than the hammer. Honestly, It reminds me of Timmy Mallett on Whackaday, and that really isn't a good look for a dragon ogre! Either send me a PM or drop me an e-mail to orkydave@ntlworld.com with your address and I will get the dragon clubs in the post first thing monday for you if you would like.. I also have a load of spare ogre clubs and Irongut swords that could work really well, I will pop them in too. Sorry if I come across like a total B******D with this reply, but I am sure you would prefer honesty. I think it would be a real shame to see this piece suffer and be let down by the weapon choice.
  8. Thanks for the concern Skya, its nice to know that t'interweb friends care! I can understand where you are coming from, but think about how much paint/pigment there is when you dilute it with water to make washes/glazes - not much at all. Guess the point I am trying to make is that the saliva/water in our bodies must dilute it enough to not cause any damage to us, and I am pretty sure you would have to drink litres of the stuff to do damage. I brush lick, but I will be the first to admit it is a bad habit that I picked up when I started and now a natural reaction when I hold a brush. Its still the only way I am comfortable with to get a good point on the brush. I used to smoke a lot of weed when I was younger, but I haven't touched the stuff in years now as painting relaxes me a hell of a lot more than smoking did! (well, until golden demon and iron painter that is!) I am not a gambling man but I would bet everything I have that licking a tiny bit of paint from the tip of a brush is better for me than tabacco and marijuana.
  9. commented over at cool mini, you know I love this one! Just a heads up though, one of the first sentences in the link posted says you can't show them off on the web beforehand...
  10. love em!!! been waiting for eric for ages! Got my order in via an e-mail.
  11. hmmm, nice neat brushwork, and smooth paint (obviously thins them), but the whole thing looks a bit flat, could do with some shading and highlights. That door is way too glossy and needs a blast of dullcote too. !
  12. Yep, definatley Visionaries, and GW borrowed heavily from the baddies vehicles when 'they' designed the dark eldar raiders! The theme tune went something like Visionaries, knights of the magical light! Visionaries, with magical powers they fight! I thought the cartoon was lame but the toys did rock! Had loads of them! And the battle Beasts too! Battle beasts battle beasts, they battle for fun! The holograms were basically a game of scissors paper stone on them too. They re-vamped them with a lense in their chest- you held them up to the sun and the symbol shone through the lense. Speaking of holograms in toys, does anyone remember SUPERNATURALS ? They were about the same size a He-man, but only the arms and legs moved. They had characters like knights, vikings and red indians, but you could tahe their front chests off and there was a hologram the full length of the head and torso that showed them as normal, and then as a ghost/zombie/animal. They were cool!
  13. A game sounds very VERY cool, and will be a great insight into the Wyrd Universe! I hope you don't forget us painters when these forums become chock a block with beardy dice chuckers though! LOL!!
  14. Late or not- this is a cool mini with a very cool paint job! Love the base
  15. thoughts are with you and your family Michelle xx
  16. Cut and paste straight off the Games workshop website..... CATEGORY 7 - WARHAMMER MONSTER This category is open to all Warhammer monsters on 40mm and 50mm square bases and the really large monster models that are not normally supplied with a base or are simply too big for one! This covers Dragons, chariots, war machines and all large ridden monsters (eg, an Orc Warlord on War Wyvern). Models should be mounted on an appropriately sized gaming base. Models on large scenic bases should be entered in the Diorama category instead. So I would say no problems!! Just above this text they have a photo of Steve Buddles Fantastic Ogre maneater on a 50mm base too.
  17. Heres me in the nuddy with some balloons at my local nightclub! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWY2041n9KM]YouTube - Ball Breaker[/ame]
  18. Both very nice- although I got the impression Borimir was rushed when looking at him during the contest. Do you plan to add more to him now the deadline and pressure have gone? The orc is great! Love the skin tones and those metallics rock!
  19. Happy birthday! I missed the thread for Art de Virres, so a happy birthday to you too!
  20. I have been flicking throught the Golden demon winners booklets A LOT recently trying to draw inspiration for my entries this year. I wouldn't worry too much about base size with monsters- many people scratch build huge monstrosities that just won't fit on a 40 or 50mm base, and have still won demons.Last year my giant was mounted on a decent sized piece of slate much bigger than the base supplied with the giant and still got through to the final round of judging. I am mounting my ogre on a 50mm one this year as the 40mm base supplied just feels too small. I would be incredibly suprised if they disqualified it for 10mm.
  21. Cheers Nathan, will bear that in mind for the future! Donna, this was a real pain to assemble! Everything needed a lot of filing to make it almost fit, the wings, and legs definatley needed pinning, as did the feet to the base (as it is quite back heavy) my client wanted to game with his so I pinned everything just to be safe, and everything bar the leg and hands needed gap filling with green stuff and a little sculpting to hide the join. PAinting was hard too as with all the weight, it was a real strain on the wrist to hold the mini for a few minutes. Its a loveley model though and very rewarding to finish. MAy pick up one for myself one day.
  22. Very nice stuff Gigers, those metallics look ace!
  23. Sorry for posting the pics side to side and making you scroll across. Don't know how I did it or how to fix it. Here is a picture of the Spartan Marine (which is another commission for the same guy) Some feedback was that the head was too small, but the helmet piping is a similar colour to the background. Hope it looks more in proportion here...
  24. Hiya everyone, I am really sorry about the poor Pictures of the Heresey Fallen one mini I submitted for the total testosterone competition- I added the wrong picture to the link, and as it was all top secret hush hush I didn't realise until it was up and entered! D'oh! I am still not happy with these pictures as they don't do the piece justice but at least you can actually see him in these ones! As it was a commission sadly I dont still have him to re shoot either. Any feedback and comments would rock! Cheers, and sorry again!
  25. Looks great so far- I agree with Nathan however, a Jungle base would work better than snow with the tiger stripes. As far as the banner goes- is there any artwork in the GW chaos army books you feel brave enough to duplicate? and remember, both sides of the banner need painting well for GD. Good luck with it, shaping up niceley, and hope to meet you there!
