Be careful what you ask for ...
Art-de-Vivre replied to Nathan Caroland's topic in News, Reviews, & Discussion
True : you have to try some goat cheese made from unpasteurized milk to be had only in Europe unfortunately; it's a different experience alltogether ! :AR15firin you're not serious, are you ? or at least you're not really French... go for snails and froglegs and you can't be wrong :dancing2: of course I'm just kidding since I like none of those "clicheed" dishes that everybody seems to associate with French cuisine. My personal favourite : gooseliver paté (foie gras); very expensive and usually available at year end on most French dinner tables. For simpler pleasures try "coq au vin" (chicken in red wine sauce) or cassoulet (white beans with a leg of duck); this talk about food makes me hungry; gotta call my wife to ask what's for dinner :tongue2: -
You're right of course; these 2 are more philosphical.. Hey Spacemunkie : hope you'll enjoy Kagemusha : one of my top 10 favorite movies of all times..., both for the tragic story and the beautiful photography ! Cheers !

this thread just made my day ! :dancing2:

NEWS: AT-43, sci-fi game from Rackham
Art-de-Vivre replied to Ritual's topic in News, Reviews, & Discussion
Have to side w/ Green Stuff on this one : not as good as their fantasy lines IMHO. For futuristic scenarios, I prefer miniatures that are somehow darker like the ones in Dark Age for instance.. Cheers ! -
NEWS: Upcoming minis for Cadwallon (Rackham)
Art-de-Vivre replied to Ritual's topic in News, Reviews, & Discussion
The terrain piece is not the fortress on the Kaïber pass (Cry Havoc 2 I think has a map and it looks very different) : this is supposed to be an Abbey created for the Rackham annual convention in Paris (Open de Paris) that was held last week. Speculation is on whether a smaller version of the abbey will be sold or not; personnally I have seen better... Regarding the paintjob, a lot of visitors of the Paris Open have complained about its quality which seems noticeably lower than that of last year : so no, it is not the usual Rackham standard, and not everything is photoshopped... One of the reasons might be the new line of paint Rackham released in December and that is supposed to be the official paint that their studio artists are obliged to use; if that is indeed the case, I regret having ordered some... Cheers ! -
I'm a fan of Japanese movies -except Manga style, not my generation- and have all of Akira Kurosawa's movies; some might recall RAN, KAGEMUSHA and of course the Seven Samurai. Juzo Itami is absolutely fabulous : Tampopo is one of the best comedies ever and I guarantee that you'll never look at a noodle soup the same way again once you have seen it- loved A Taxing Woman as well.. Cheers !

Frankly, I'm not too keen on the new releases. There's nothing there that would turn my head... -
NEWS : Durendal does fantasy
Art-de-Vivre replied to green stuff's topic in News, Reviews, & Discussion
it seems very close to the 28mm LE Fenryll mini (Shirvae) by the same sculptor. Both minis are very nice, but I would like to see them side by side unpainted.. Cheers -
Wow, I had no intention of starting a row on this forum (or on any other forum for that matter) :umbrella: I just came accross the figure, liked it, bought it and thought I should let you guys and gals know. I like Alexi-Z's painting style, but that doesn't mean I have to like her personality, and no, haven't seen her knockers anywhere :tongue2: So, relax, no harm was done, and let's get on with our life and painting ! Cheers

very few entries so far, but then again it is quality that counts, right ? I'm planning on entering, I have one mini ready, and one or two on the workbench that might meet the deadline, but no guaranty !! Aargh ! another busy weekend !
-
Actually i wasn't thinking about the Alexi-Z challenge at all since I don't stand a chance; gimme a year or two though... :vb_tongue But what do you guys (and gals) think of the mini itself ?
-
Here is a link of a new release that has apparently caused quite a stir on certain forums : http://newboldworld.com/packFKBV1.html I just received 2 minis of Natali today and will post pics when I paint her, but don't expect anything comparable to Alexi-Z's talent or to some of the painters on this forum... What do you think ?

NEWS: Now THIS is pretty amazing (Ilyad)

now, this one has the oomph factor ! :thrasher: -
NEWS: Fenryll Amazaon Fighting
Art-de-Vivre replied to Nathan Caroland's topic in News, Reviews, & Discussion
well folks, I just received a package from Fenryll containing this LE model. :peace: On the pics, it really looks like her right arm is not well proportioned, but it really is just a matter of picture angle : the arm is normal length. She looks great, and those who object to her not looking directly at the snake's eyes; well she might be just looking at the part of the body she can stab and I see nothing wrong with that. As for the breast "eyepatch", it is a matter of taste really : it is fantasy after all and it is not less credible than a kid running around with a big knife and a teddy bear. Will post pictures when I paint her, possibly even for the fozzbozz contest if I can make it... Cheers ! -

it certainly looks very busy, too many details to really appreciate it, but I like the theme; it's quite funny ! -
NEWS: Hasslefree Birthday Miniature
Art-de-Vivre replied to Nathan Caroland's topic in News, Reviews, & Discussion
not for me, thanks to quote somebody famous : where is the oomph factor ? -
Thanks Matakishi ! This is very well done ! I already used cork for mini bases and I bought some from Ikea (the stuff you put beneath hot plates) but it is expensive here in Malaysia and the thickness is not appropriate for building walls. Cheers !
-
interesting colour scheme ! the skin tones are very nice and so is the hair, but I'm not too fond of the purple myself- it's just a matter of taste, not technique :thumb: Cheers !

NEWS: Dark Age Games - New Forsaken
Art-de-Vivre replied to Pr0fane's topic in News, Reviews, & Discussion
Dark Age rules ! Ok, so I'm part of a demo team, but this game really rocks ! These box sets are ideal for those who want to start gaming quickly and as such their release is welcome. Personnally, I have 90% of the Forsaken figures and then some...cause I like the design based on artwork from Brom and the top notch level of sculpting. What I'm really waiting for is the next rulebook St Mary vs Skarrd due sometime in January. Cheers ! -
Photoshoping your mini pics!
Art-de-Vivre replied to Spacemunkie's topic in News, Reviews, & Discussion
Finally ! I've been waiting for something like that for a long time since I always have problems with backgrounds, and it seems that a majority prefers neutral backgrounds... Thanks a lot for your efforts Spacemunkie ! May I suggest one addition to your tutorial : how to add an insert with a closeup of the face or another part of the mini that has a lot of detail... :thumb: Cheers ! -
I'm siding with Eric here : France will reach the finals and it is probably going to be against Germany... Wouldn't it be great : a rematch for the 1986 semi-finals, arguably one of the best games of all times and certainly one of the most controversial :2: Will certainly enjoy watching the games even with the time difference : I reckon that most games being played at 5 pm or 8 pm in Germany will be shown live in Malaysia at midnight and 3 am!!! will have to sleep at work then, hahaha ! Cheers !

hahaha, i do it too, but it is ok, I'm a civil servant...and my internet access is faster at work :bump: On the topic of nudity, i agree with most that has been said above, as long as it is not tasteless I don't mind. Actually, i have quite a few scantily clad minis in my collection, a large majority of them female I must confess, and I enjoy painting them 'cause simply they are works of art (some would say they were works of art before I applied paint and ruined them...) Cheers !

personnally, I like this mini very much, hopefully I should get it before Xmas... :gimmie!: Those who don't like it are probably just angry 'cause it is not available to the general public, hehehe Merry XMas to you all !!!! -
