This is fantastic. I know that flat surfaces are meant to look the way that you have done them (dark towards the light, light away), and I've tried them that way any number of times, but I've never been able to make them look believable. Yours are incredible. As I said on the last entry - seeing this makes me feel like I shouldn't be entering this. ;)

The technique, skill and brushcontrol on this one is so exceptionally good, that I don't really have words... This is world class level stuff.

However, I think the entry as a whole is a bit dull with very little variance in texture and colouring. Almost everyting is basicly the same, so the exceptional parts kinda just fades into this one flat object. I'd love to see some variance between the hull and the "tools" or whatever they are.

Hawkoon, this is such an interesting take for me. As I said above, I think that this is an absolutely unbelievable entry. That said, I think your comment is fair and accurate - I think it just highlights the difference between me and someone who actually really thinks about art and composition. As a primary gamer who likes painting, I see this entry as near-perfect. The technical skill is amazing, and it looks like exactly what I would expect it to look like - a bit ball of metal and various metal attachments. It wouldn't for a second occur to me to think "jeez, if you're painting this for competition, there should be color contrast in addition to value contrast", and then either change the scheme, or paint a different model that would let me have color variation as well. This DEFINITELY isn't mine, but I'm glad you helped me learn something extra from it!

@Brad Maynes This is of course nitpicking. I too think it's a great piece of work. The technical skill of the artist is way beyond my own, but I do know a thing or two about colour theory and composition that I think might help to push the artist even further next time🙂

I have to agree on both counts with the gentlemen above. Absolutely world class skill on the metals. The execution is so good one can’t help but be impressed. But, as @Hawkoon noted, the eye does feel like it doesn’t have a focal point because there’s nothing to counterbalance the metal. Again, this is like pointing out a mm size spot in the Sistine Chapel.

All of these amazing NMM paint jobs! I'm still in awe. The comments about the color pallet are interesting. I certainly love color myself (although I tend to muddy them up some), but I can see how more color would make it pop, at yet at the same time it has a very 'realistic' feel with it being more monochromatic. But either way... wow... those highlights! So many things to aspire to!
