Probably the most atmospheric of all the entries. I'd never try this (mostly because I couldn't do this good a job ), but you do a great job of it. This guy is clearly fighting in the moonlight, and you'd never put him anywhere else. Fantastic.

Of all the entries the atmosphere created by the paintwork here is seriously impressive. Ominous, fighting at night, evil? Maybe? Just great.

As soon as I saw this I knew who painted it because I have envied their use of lighting for a long time. God that directional highlighting is so dang good. Beautiful work as always!

I'm close to running out of these base inserts, and I guess it has become somewhat of a signature, so probably wise to avoid them for the next competition. (I getting pretty tired of painting them anyway...) Let's see if you can spot my entry next time @Shock & Awe 😉

@Cognitive_Thoughtworks don't know if I can provide a recipe, but it basicly to paint the white of the eye first, then draw a thin line around the iris and block out the pupil. After that you fill inn the iris with desired colour (in this case red) Then shade it down where shadow would fall, and use thin lines towards the pupil as highlights. Finally I top it off with a white dot where you'd get the reflection of the sun (or moon, or whatever lightsource you want to imitate) There are of course many minor stages where I glaze transitions, but that's nothing special in this case. On this model I also lined the the eyeball with blood for the blood god to make them appear bloodshot.

I never said it was the base to be honest, I didn't really clock it till just now. It was more the way you use lighting and your highlight style. But I think it is hard for the people who have been in the painting competition for any length of time not to recognize each other's little signatures in places. I did not even think it might be taken as a negative that I spotted it right out - because I earnestly meant the paint job - not the base. Sorry if that came off wrong!

No, it didn't come out wrong at all. I was certain it was the base that blew my cover. Quite flattered that it wasn't😁 (But I'm still tired of painting those bases though😆)

That base has eyes! Whoa! 

Love the feel of this, and really thanks for providing a close up of his wing, the detail of the veins on there is really really cool! So impressed with him!
