Corpse Candle kill itself

I've found this one on Facebook and thought it's an interesting one: Can a corpse candle kill itself with (0)The Essence Remains if it has no legal targets nearby to use one of the attack's options(benefits) on?

Yes they can. It is a tactical action so they can target themselves.

Yes. The only thing I'm unsure about is "Kill this model and choose one of the following...". Can the corpse candle still be a legal target at this point? Or is the "killing" only fulfilled after choosing one of the options?

Have a look at the action declaration rules.  The third paragraph of declaration, before the action is performed:

Quote

The model also declares any variable in the Action. This depends on the Action, as some Actions have different variables, or affect multiple targets.

So you commit to the option when you declare the action, then you follow through with it by killing the model and performing whatever you chose.
