  2. Doing a PDF with the fluff in the old books makes a ton of sense for new player's. It seems much cheaper then trying to make an additional book that is purely fluff. With the new plastic model re-sculpts have upgrades been taken into consideration at all. For example I will use Justin's favorite. Will Seamus be able to be modeled with or with out his hat if you choose? Has Mack Martin always been a hipster? Are there any plans for a Terrain kit with the coming of 2nd ed? Is it possible that Vasyl will get a plastic re-sculpt, become a new master for the Goblins and bowl stuffed piglets for damage? I also +1 cake and raise you... or death
  3. If your living in the Rochester, NY area and looking to get involved with Malifaux please come by Monday nights. Based on an increase in interest we wanted to dedicate a night of the week for player's. Most of the player's are fairly new, some are still purchasing crews. Feel free to stop by while we all learn the rules, paint some crews and most of all have fun. We will start playing around 5pm and end whenever I feel like going home (Seriously, I have the day off on Tuesday, so I don't mind keeping the shop going late). There is no cost for our weekly events. Hopefully we can parlay this interest into monthly events as well. So if your in the Rochester, NY area, on a Monday night and want to stop by for some painting, no so witty banter and Malifaux we would love to see you here. 4. I am getting a group of player's going on Malifaux and this post has me a bit nervous as tournaments historically, have done well for me for most games. I like leagues and campaigns but keeping interest through out can be challenging versus a one day tourney. Based on my experience with other events I would put forth that all tables should stay static for the event. If possible make it so if a payer has played on a table they don't have to/ get to play on it again. With schemes it seem like everyone having to use all 6 in a 3 round event makes the most sense. I would add that player's should draw two and if they don't like one of the schemes be able to shuffle it back in and draw again. If they get the same one then so be it. That way you don't have to burn better schemes on easier match-ups and player's get some control, while also playing on Malifaux's chaotic nature. For crews, having to play a static crew with a side board around 25% of total soul stones seems good. Player' should hand each other their roster and then make a crew before the match. The only down side to this is that it will hold up play while people are fretting over what to play. Being able to pick whatever you want seems crazy. As one of the other posters wrote it takes some of the fun and strategy out of it. It makes it more difficult for the new player's to feel competitive and no one wants that. It would be like playing in a sealed card tournament for the new player versus another player using there 15 year old collection. My hesitation towards two crews is that someone can exploit schemes easier based on what they build. They can also switch out for a more favorable crew based on terrain layout. Neither one of these mean someone is a good player it just means they can build two diverse lists. If it's a list building contest why even play? Just look at each others list and have the player's vote on the best one. Saves the time of flipping cards. Having to play against bad match-ups is what competition is about. Complete balance in anything is very difficult to achieve. The harder fought the battle, the tastier the victory. Sometimes you face lists you can't beat. Knowing your local meta is important and bringing a list to compete locally is a skill of a good player. I would love to see something official as it concerns tournaments. If not I will just run events based on what the player's want. As a retailer, I am nothing without my player base. Making them as happy as possible is the most important part of what I do.
  5. This is perfect. You guys are throwing in exactly what I was looking for. I would rather have more of a product then less so people having some diversity on their selection is great.
  6. As a retailer, having appropriate stock for a game is important to me. I was curious to ask you guys, the player's, what you thought about blisters. I was wondering what blister's you guys thought I should stock more then one of. I would also like to know what blister's from starters I should carry. I carry every starter. I was wondering what I should have from starter's that I could carry blister's. Thanks for your input.
  7. For $35 dollars it's an amazing value for a rule set. I thought I would hate that it was soft cover but on further inspection it's better that way. It actually fits in an army transport case. I don't have to deal with a codex for my faction, I get info on them all. Which means I can learn about what my opponents are playing without making a further investment. The fluff is great and tells that tale of where "we" are chronologically while still leaving some stuff open ended for further discovery or to write your own story. They also leave a nice cliff hanger in the back. The artwork is what we have all come to love and respect from them thus far. The game play is very unique. There was never a chance when I felt completely blown out. In one game I lost my Steamborg (2/5 of my army) on the top of turn 2 and my master three turns later. I was still able to take the game to a draw. In other games you will just get blown out if that stuff happens. It's nice that the game isn't over when your Master dies. It's nice that you can still compete without a master. The set-up and VP point system is very original and can lead to never playing the same game twice. After watching most of the starters pay each other at one point or another they seem very balanced. Usually after a couple of days of playing you would here grumblings about one faction or the other being stronger. I didn't here anything like that. There were no discussion about pieces being too strong. Well done overall, Very nice book. Great booth set-up. Friendly Henchman. I know, kinda an oxymoron. Everyone at the booth was helpful. I didn't get a chance to talk to Nathan due to the amount of people that were flocked around him most of the Con. It was nice to talk with Eric and the ladies at the booth. Nick the writer was great. Drew and Victor were very patient and helpful with all of my questions during demos. Rochester, NY is being taken over by Wyrd. TS
  8. Currently I picked up the soul tokens from Privateer Press in the cryx line to represent soulstone tokens. They work until Wyrd comes out with their own. I also liked some of the brain tokens that were used at the con.
  9. Angus, We are on the same page then. I was looking at from the stand pint of bringing the game into the store. Anytime people are making a choice to play a game initial cost money wise always factor's in. With the rules being 35 and most box sets being around that the initial purchase is under $100.00. If I want to offer prizes, I will need to charge an entry fee as well. I completely agree with letting them take it and make their forces out of whatever they like. I just wanted to make sure that no one is going to have a negative play experience because they bought Starter A and it's 20% weaker then Starter B and got their butts kicked. Guess I could run the points after I get the book and if a few starter forces are lower then offer those people buying those starter's the option of buying a mini of comparable cost to round out their force. I want his game to sell well in our store. I want people to be excited about it. Having a large line of mini's already is going to help that. I need to start thinking about how am I going to present this after Gencon to make people want to get involved. Thanks for the insight TS
  10. Hey guys, I apologize if this has been covered already. I am just wondering how many figures/points an average tourney game is going to be. I do realize that the game can scale to be fairly large. I also realize that for tourneys I would not want rounds to go longer then 90 minutes. I assume early on staying with a smaller number is going to work well to get the rules down and such. I was thinking about doing something at my store similar to what Privateer did with the first release. They allowed player's to pick a starter force and play that. At the time there was only one other mini out and it was a mercenary. Player's were able to swap that out for something of equal or lesser point cost in their pre-made band. Is a tourney just allowing player's to use starter boxes going to be fair/equal in terms of points? Do you guys think this is a good idea and something that could work? This is kinda a new experience for me having a game release a set of rules with such an already diverse line of mini's. I realize that when GW comes out with a new ruleset there are already a ton of mini's. I just don't want to overwhelm player's looking to get into the game due to having so many options. Let me kow what you guys think. Thanks TS
  11. thanks for the clarity TS
  12. Not to get away from the plushy talk cause that stuff is cool too but, if Arcansists can mix and match different creatures should I be basing them with magnets? If there are three to a base and I need to designate when one dies I should definitely use magnets to take them on and off. I guess I couldn't have a base with two hoarcats and an arachnid though. Or could I? God the suspense is killing me.
  13. I was wondering if Ramos still comes with an arachnid on his base or is he supposed to be on a smaller base then what he had been previously packaged with? If he is supposed to be changed does the solo arachnid need to go on it's own base. If so what size base should I use for each? Thanks TS
  14. It makes sense I just wasn't sure. Thanks
