Tara Discard Effect

Hi all,

 

So, I've seen it said, perhaps in the errata, that if Tara has no cards in hand she can still use her fast giving pulse because it is an effect not a cost. So, if she has cards in hand, does she have to discard them if she doesn't want to?

 

It seems that as it is an effect and it doesn't say must, it looks likes I can use the ability without having to discard anything.

No. You discard.

 

The ability says

(1) Temporal Shift: All models in [pulse]6 gain Fast. Then, this model discards three cards, or it's entire hand.

 

I don't see how that could ever be interpreted as optional. Else my exploding "Sacrifice after resolving" stuff just got a lot better if I don't have to follow the effects.

 

The FAQ/Errata thing was explicitly added to allow the ability to be used with an empty hand. It doesn't change "entire hand" to equal zero. You pick one of the two options, which result in three less cards, or no cards.

Ahhh poop. As a resser master, this ability is much less desirable. But, that makes sense. Perhaps I read it the way I wanted it to be

It not saying "must" is not relevant. All game effects are "must" unless they say "may". Otherwise people could just choose not to take damage when you hit them becuase it doesn't say they "must" take 2/3/4 or whatever.

Believe me, handing out fast that easily is worth it, card tax and all.

Yeah, all the faq to Tara's ability is saying is that the discarding of cards is an effect that must occur, not a requirement for the ability to used.

 

It's just like any other game that tells you to discard a card when you don't currently have any.
