Obscuring, Blocking, Cover, LoS, etc

Poltron

Question

Hi all!

Been reading a lot about LoS and Cover lately, and I think our playgroup plays it a bit wrong. Tried the Search, but after searching for 20 pages of posts I cant find my exact questions.

Just wanted to confirm a few things:

#1: Model have the blocking trait, but do not grant any cover right? So a Ht 1 in front of a Ht 2 offer no negative flip whatsoever to the attacker of the Ht 2? I've been told that it does give soft cover because of Partial LoS, and cant find anything supporting that it does.

#2: Let's say a Dead Rider (Ht3) is 1" of a 5"x5" Ht2 hill. On the other side, a gunsmith (Ht 2) is also 1" from the terrain. So by the rules, the Dead rider cant have cover because the gunsmith is also 1" from the same terrain, exact? What if the Dead rider was 2" from the terrain and the gunsmith too? No cover because he's not 1" of the intervening terrain, even though the gunsmith line of sight is partial?

#3: We normally can see 3" in and within Obscuring terrain, but not completely through. So even Kaeris Flame Pillar (2" obscuring terrain) cant be seen completely through and count as blocking for targets from both sides? What about a Hunter in the middle of a 6"x6" forest, can he see and shoot out of the forest, or because he's inside, can only shoot anyone coming in? Same if he's out, he can see in 6" of obscuring, but not through?

Thanks in advance!

1. Correct. Models never grant cover.

2. Correct. Sometimes it seems a little funny, but that's right.

3. If you're inside the forest, you can see 3" (or more with Hunter). You just can never see completely through Obscuring, no matter the size. So someone in the Obscuring doesn't need to see completely through.
